The United States Secretary of State announced thedeportation of a former senior official in the Iranian regime (with her entire family), who received permanent residency in the US during the Barack Obama administration in 2014.

Masoumeh Ebtekar, also known as "Screaming Mary," served as the spokesperson for the Islamist students who took over the US Embassy in Tehran in 1979 and held 52 Americans hostage for 444 days.

In 2014, the Obama administration granted her and her family entry visas to the United States.

In June 2016, they received legal permanent resident status under the Diversity Visa Lottery program.

This week, their legal status was revoked, and now her family members - Saeed Issa Ashami, Maryam Tahmasbi, and their son - are in custody of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) authorities pending their deportation from the country.

Her family was never supposed to enjoy the right to live in the United States.

America cannot be a home for those who acted against the US or supported such actions - and under Donald Trump's administration, such a policy will not continue.

It is worth noting that Ebtekar also served as Vice President of Iran until 2021.
