The ufo-tech is out there, not aliens but secret human tech.. so who knows..
The heat-shields are ok, they do what they are meant to do, and we don´t really need anything else at the moment for Moon and Mars missions returning to Earth.

there are oceans of frozen ice under the surfice.., i.e. hydrogen and oxygen, i.e. rocket fuel!
..but we could/will go further out to Saturnus. The moon Titan is a frozen pumping station, basically a frozen ball of lighter fuel.
..and we could get the oxygen from the ice-moon Enceladus close by.
