A Canadian court has ruled the federal government cannot be held liable after a previously healthy 17-year-old died following a COVID-19 vaccination.

In a decision raising serious questions about accountability, the Ontario Court of Appeal dismissed the Hartman family’s lawsuit, ruling that governments do not owe a private duty of care when making public health decisions, even when those decisions may carry risks for individuals.

Sean Hartman’s father is now considering taking the fight to the Supreme Court.
