Israel Says Hezbollah Fired Rockets, Breaching Lebanon Ceasefire

Just as the Iran ceasefire seems on the brink of collapsing (though unilaterally extended late in the day Tuesday by Trump), so does the Lebanon one as well, as on Tuesday Israel accused Hezbollah of firing a new rocket volley at its IDF forces, effectively breaking the ceasefire.

The Israel Defense Forces said Hezbollah targeted its troops in southern Lebanon, seeing in this a breaching of the fragile ceasefire ahead of a further round of US-mediated talks between the Israeli and Lebanese governments.

However, Hezbollah's stated stance is that it has the "right to resist" Israeli forces operating inside southern Lebanon, given they are occupying forces.

Starting last Thursday, a 10-day ceasefire brokered by Washington took effect, even as Israeli forces remain deployed in a strip of Lebanese territory several miles deep along the border.

Israel calls it a 'buffer zone' - but Lebanese sees it as a land grab. Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, a Hezbollah ally and leader of the Amal Movement - which is the other big Shia organization in Lebanon - has newly stated that if Israel "maintains its occupation, whether of areas, positions, or by drawing yellow lines, it will smell the scent of resistance every day."

He added: "If they insist on remaining, they will face resistance, and our history bears witness to that."

Lebanese officials have also charged Israel with trying to erase the Lebanese presence in southern Lebanon in a genocidal act, or 'cultural genocide'.

This after Israeli forces have carried out demolitions in southern villages, targeting what they describe as Hezbollah infrastructure embedded in civilian areas.

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported new detonations in at least eight villages on Tuesday, as well as shelling in some of these locations.

Israeli officials previously referred to their deployment boundary as the "Yellow Line" - which it should be noted is a designation also used in Gaza, where entire local neighborhoods have long ago been permanently wiped out.

Internet Content Regulation is Coming To Canada

The Canadian Federal Liberals have finagled themselves a new majority government and they’re hitting the ground running.

Heritage Minister Marc Miller said the quiet part out loud in a scrum on Parliament Hill on April 15th, days after a combination of by-elections and floor-crossers gave the party their first majority in 6 years:

Those opportunities include a third crack at an Online Harms bill and there will be some manner of regulation over legal internet content.

The earlier version of the Online Harms (Bill C-36) contained provisions to label political dissent as “hate speech” and would have invoked penalties and mandated “internet kill switches” for criticizing politicians online.

That year also saw the first attempt at B-C26, the Cyber-Security Act, which would have granted the government sweeping powers to order telecomm and internet providers “to do or cease doing anything” that posed a risk to the telecomm system, and could further designate any entity as a “vital component” of infrastructure putting them under the act.

White House Border Czar Tom Homan stated that deportation numbers will increase, rejecting claims that the administration surrendered to Democrats and pro-illegal immigrant activists in Minnesota in January. He highlighted the removal of over 4,000 migrants, primarily criminals, from the state, and increased cooperation with Minnesota county jails and the state prison system on immigration enforcement.

In an interview on Monday, Homan explained that a recent dip in removals was tied to changes in how federal agents are deployed rather than a policy of reduced enforcement. “Minnesota, I see people say we surrendered. No, we didn’t,” he insisted, continuing: “We took over 4,000 people off the streets of that state, most of them criminals. Number two, we walked away with cooperation from just about every county jail and the state prison system, which means this: It’s safer for the officers. It’s safer for the community when we can arrest the public safety threat in the safety and security of the jail.” Homan added that “rather than sending a dozen people to go look for somebody,” creating a possible public safety threat, “now we’ve got one agent arresting one illegal alien in the county jail.”

While immigration detentions have dropped back significantly since the Minnesota operation was wound down, Homan argues increased cooperation between federal and local authorities in Minnesota will ultimately streamline immigration enforcement and see removals rise. Mass deportations were a key pillar of President Donald J. Trump’s 2024 election platform, and such a rise could reassure allies amid reports that the administration is scaling back its enforcement objectives and energize America First voters ahead of the midterms.

After killing Iran’s supreme leader, Donald Trump told Iranians to “take over your government” because this was “probably your only chance for generations.” Five weeks later, as the human and economic costs of the war against Iran mounted while more hardline leadership tightened control, Trump insisted that the people of Iran were begging him to continue bombing until they were free.

Trump’s rallying cries assume a silent Iranian majority that trusts the United States and so hates the current regime that they reject diplomacy with it, favor airtight sanctions to starve it, and want national infrastructure destroyed until they can replace repressive authoritarians with a secular Western-style democracy. Buttressing this narrative are opt-in surveys that collect data from a subset of the population (like subscribers to a single vpn provider), and by Western news interviews with a small number of people inside Iran.

We have conducted 22 representative surveys in Iran since 2014 using gold-standard methods for polling in authoritarian countries. Our analysis reveals why it was a poor gamble to bet that air power could precipitate a popular overthrow of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Using pooled data from 15 polls conducted between 2014 and 2024, we compared respondents with favorable and unfavorable attitudes toward the United States, both before and after Washington’s withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2018. The minority favorable toward the United States dropped sharply from 26.5% before withdrawal to 14.3% afterward.

This shrinking pro-U.S. minority does not resemble the constituency imagined by maximum-pressure advocates. Instead, it is more supportive of diplomacy than the rest of the public, more attentive to the human costs of sanctions, and surprisingly nationalistic on security questions.

Peter Dutton’s snout back in the public trough with the help of Premier David Crisafulli

Peter Dutton, who oversaw the destruction of the coalition at the 2025 federal election, has been given a job he is not qualified for by the LNP Queensland Premier David Crisafulli on the board of the Queensland Investment Corporation, overseeing investments in critical minerals and defence industries.

What makes it even worse, than just Peter Dutton’s failing as a political leader, is that he has a long history of fraudulent conduct as a minister and also allegations of insider share trading when he was a federal MP.

Queensland Investment Corporation is Queensland’s state-owned investment manager with more than $135 billion in assets under management, and someone as shady as Peter Dutton should be nowhere near it.

Mr Dutton’s appointment was announced on Friday alongside that of former Queensland Labor assistant minister Michael Choi.

The state government said the appointments were designed to “help drive investment in key growth opportunities for Queensland in defence industries and critical minerals”.

Queensland Investment Corporation is Queensland’s state-owned investment manager with more than $135 billion in assets under management.

Queensland Treasurer David Janetski said Mr Dutton would provide strategic advice on accelerating development through the flagship Sovereign Industry Development Fund.

The Queensland government has tried to cover up Peter Dutton’s appointment to some degree by also appointing a former Labor Party politician, Michael Choi, to the Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC) board at the same time.

The LNP will claim it shows impartiality, but what it really shows is the LNP knew Peter Dutton’s appointment to the QIC was a rort that should never have happened.

Fourteen Individuals from Southwest Michigan Indicted for Drug Trafficking and Related Offenses

U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan Timothy VerHey announced that on April 14, 2026, a grand jury indicted eight defendants for conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and other related offenses. Six defendants had previously been indicted in separate cases. The eight defendants indicted on April 14 are listed below:

The investigation arose after agents learned that a group of Benton Harbor drug traffickers were obtaining large quantities of methamphetamine and other drugs through third-party carriers out-of-state. For example, on July 9, 2025, investigators seized over 19 pounds of methamphetamine from a FedEx box delivered from California to Bangor, Michigan. On November 19, 2025, investigators executed over a dozen search warrants in Benton Harbor, Berrien Springs, St. Joseph, and Kalamazoo, Michigan and elsewhere, which resulted in the seizure of nearly a kilogram of fentanyl, over 500 grams of cocaine, over $40,000 in cash, and multiple firearms. Further details of the investigation are available in the criminal complaint filed in United States v. Scott, No. 1:25-mj-00612.

“This investigation shows the power of collaboration among law enforcement agencies,” stated U.S. Attorney VerHey. “With the assistance of my office, various federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies worked together to focus their efforts on disrupting the supply chain of some of the largest methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine traffickers in Southwest Michigan.
