Washington, D.C. interim Police Chief Jeffery Carroll confirmed Saturday night that the suspect who opened fire outside the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner was carrying a shotgun, a handgun, and several knives when he charged the security screening area at the Washington Hilton. The 31-year-old, identified as Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, California, exchanged gunfire with Secret Service officers before being tackled and taken into custody. A Secret Service uniform division officer was struck in his protective vest and was later released from the hospital. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were evacuated unharmed. Allen will be arraigned Monday on federal charges including assault on a federal officer using a dangerous weapon.
