JD Vance is either being - or he is being played as - a useful idiot giving aid and comfort to the enemy (Iran here) to hedge his bets for his political future.

Headline among other anti-Trump/anti-USA headlines on Trump reads:

"Pentagon May Not Be Telling Trump Full Picture About War…"

https://www.theatlantic.com/national-security/2026/04/iran-war-vance-hegseth-trump/686905/

"Vance worried…"

"Republican senators losing confidence in Hegseth amid turmoil…"

https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/5848160-senate-republicans-doubt-hegseth-leadership/

The headline of the "Vance worried" link reads:

"The Pentagon May Not Be Telling Trump the Full Picture About the War"

The sub-headline is:

"Vice President Vance is worried that the U.S. is running low on weapons."

Great. Just Great. Leak what may be a false statement - regardless of whether it is true or not - just to show you are the one on the ball, the one who is (and hopes to be, albeit at the expense of the nation and your President, an "I told you so." "I knew better." "I never supported this war."

If the statement is true, whoever leaked it should be tried for TREASON. Period.

>That’s the Atlantic. This rag is paid propaganda. Think deeply about who would want the public to believe them.

Yup.

From the part of the rag above the paywall:

"In closed-door meetings, J. D. Vance has repeatedly questioned the Defense Department’s depiction of the war in Iran and whether the Pentagon has understated what appears to be the drastic depletion of U.S. missile stockpiles.

"Two senior administration officials told us that the vice president has queried the accuracy of the information the Pentagon has provided about the war. He has also expressed his concerns about the availability of certain missile systems in discussions with President Trump, several people familiar with the situation told us.

"The consequences of a dramatic drawdown in munitions reserves are potentially dire: U.S. forces would need to draw from these same stockpiles to defend Taiwan against China, South Korea against North Korea, and Europe against Russia.

"Both Pete Hegseth, the secretary of defense, and General Dan Caine, who chairs the Joint Chiefs of Staff, have publicly said that U.S. weapons stockpiles are robust, and portrayed the damage to Iranian forces after eight weeks of fighting as drastic.

"Vance’s advisers, who spoke with us on the condition of anonymity, told us that the vice president has presented his concerns as his own rather than accusing Hegseth or Caine of misleading the president."

Not saying it's true. It is the The Atlantic.

But not saying it is 100% false, either, just because it is The Atlantic.

The info has been published and will have the national security consequences that it has - if any - whether it is true or whether it is false.

Trouble for Vance is, perhaps, that it is not hard for some to believe that he would say something like that, and not too mindfully while he is at it. Again, true of false is not as important as question that has been placed on his character.

Those against the war love him for it (whether he did it or not).

Those in support of the administration's effort could label it undermining, if not worse, true or false, if consistent with what they believe his character to be.
