Spotify stock plummets after earnings beat expectations as guidance disappoints

-Spotify’s soft guidance overshadowed a first-quarter earnings beat and the stock plummeted.

-The company expects to add 17 million net users to reach 778 million MAUs this quarter and to grow its premium subscribers by 6 million to 299 million.

-But net premium subscribers had been expected to grow to just over 300.4 million.

Shares of Swedish audio-streamer Spotify

fell over 13% after the market opened Tuesday, as soft guidance overshadowed an earnings beat.

The company said first-quarter revenue rose 8% from last year to 4.5 billion euros ($5.3 billion), while monthly active users (MAUs) rose 12% year-on-year to 761 million, both slightly above FactSet estimates.

Premium subscribers grew 9% to 293 million, reflecting 3 million quarterly net adds, Spotify said.

For the current quarter, Spotify expects to add 17 million net users to reach 778 million MAUs. It expects to grow its premium subscribers by 6 million to 299 million.

While second-quarter MAU guidance was slightly above Wall Street’s expectations, net premium subscribers had been expected to grow to just over 300.4 million, according to analysts polled by FactSet.

The guidance is “subject to substantial uncertainty,” Spotify said in an earnings presentation.

Operating income was guided to 630 million euros, while the Street was expecting closer to 680 million euros, per FactSet estimates.

Spotify has repeatedly hiked prices for its premium subscription in an attempt to improve profitability.

In February, the company increased the subscription price from $11.99 to $12.99 a month in the U.S.

At Monday’s close, the stock was down 14% year-to-date.

I'm told these are court approved search warrants being served and they are tied to fraud, not immigration enforcement. Fox is told 22 search warrants were executed in Minnesota this morning.

DOJ spokesperson holding statement:

“Today the FBI with federal, state and local law enforcement is involved in court-authorized law enforcement activity as part of an ongoing fraud investigation.”

OpenAI reportedly missed revenue targets. Shares of Oracle and these chip stocks are falling

-Oracle, which has a $300 billion, five-year partnership to supply computing power to OpenAI for AI operations, was lower along with chipmakers such as Nvidia and Broadcom.

-The Wall Street Journal reported that OpenAI has recently missed its own projections for user growth and revenue. The shortfall has sparked internal concern about whether the company can keep pace with the massive financial commitments.

-OpenAI pushed back on the report.

Shares of companies tied to artificial intelligence infrastructure fell Tuesday after a report that OpenAI has fallen short of internal growth expectations, raising fresh questions about whether the pace of spending across the sector is sustainable.

Oracle, which has a $300 billion, five-year partnership to supply computing power to OpenAI for AI operations, dropped 4%.

Chipmakers including Broadcom and Advanced Micro Devices

declined 4% and 3%, respectively. Shares of Nvidia

fell more than 1%.

Qualcomm dipped 0.2% Tuesday but closed off its lows. The stock had gotten a slight boost Monday on reports it is working with OpenAI on smartphone chips tied to the firm’s hardware ambitions. Leveraged neocloud stock CoreWeave

dropped more than 5%.

In Asia, SoftBank Group, one of OpenAI’s largest investors, sank about 10%.

The Wall Street Journal reported that OpenAI has recently missed its own projections for user growth and revenue. The shortfall has sparked internal concern about whether the company can keep pace with the massive financial commitments required to build out data centers and secure long-term computing capacity.

According to the report, finance chief Sarah Friar has warned colleagues that if revenue growth doesn’t accelerate, the company could face difficulty funding future compute agreements.

OpenAI pushed back on the report. “This is ridiculous. We are totally aligned on buying as much compute as we can and working hard on it together every day,” the company told CNBC.

Oracle defended OpenAI’s growth trajectory, saying it’s seeing firsthand how quickly adoption of OpenAI’s technology is accelerating.

“We’re incredibly excited about our partnership with OpenAI and remain focused on building and delivering the capacity they need to support rapidly growing demand,” an Oracle spokesperson said. “OpenAI’s new 5.5 model is a significant step forward, and we expect continued momentum as access to their technology expands across cloud providers.”

Open AI, which kickstarted the AI boom with the launch of its ChatGPT chatbot in 2022, recently closed a record-breaking $122 billion funding round at a post-money valuation of $852 billion.

“You would assume any slowing was known by the investors, right? If not, shame on OAI,” Jordan Klein, TMT sector specialist at Mizuho, said in a note. “How new could update be as the round closed end March when the quarter would have ended. And it’s not even May 1. I highly doubt OAI fundamentals slowed that fast in under 30 days.”

Meanwhile, competition in enterprise AI is intensifying. Anthropic has been gaining traction with corporate customers, while Google’s Gemini models are also picking up momentum as companies increasingly adopt multiple providers.

Still, some investors questioned whether the report materially changes the broader AI spending outlook.

“I view the article as largely a rehash of what we already knew: OpenAI’s growth seems to have slowed in late-2025 into early-2026 as the business ceded some share to Anthropic and Gemini,” said John Belton, portfolio manager at Gabelli Funds. “There is nothing here that suggests this is an issue for the pace of spending across the sector as a whole; instead, this looks more like confirmation about OpenAI’s recent market share trends.”

Others emphasized how difficult it is to apply traditional metrics to the current AI cycle. Luke Rahbari, CEO of Equity Armor Investments, said shortfalls in revenue targets should be viewed with caution, given how imprecise forecasting remains in a rapidly evolving industry.

“OpenAI missing its revenue targets is, in the grand scheme, a distraction,” said Rahbari. “In the current AI landscape, these projections are largely arbitrary. No major player in this race can accurately forecast their revenue or capital expenditure within a 25% to 50% margin of error.”

Major Virginia Redistricting Case update:

The Virginia Supreme Court (#SCOVA) has DENIED the emergency request to stay the injunction of certification of last week's Gerrymandering referendum!

In the 'tea leaves' category, this is as positive a 'tea leaf' as one might imagine!

If #SCOVA thought they would let the referendum stand, then logically they would have lifted the injunction on counting & certifying the votes.

Caveat: this is still just tea leaves, but it's a good sign.

@Kalshi & @Polymarket are probably crashing on this at the moment :)

Feds, state execute search warrants at Twin Cities daycares and autism centers

The Department of Homeland Security announced Tuesday that it executed search warrants in the Twin Cities as part of an ongoing criminal investigation related to fraud.

The state Department of Children, Youth, and Families confirmed the operation — and said state and county officials were involved.

“Today’s law enforcement actions are a result of state, county and federal agencies working together to root out fraud and hold bad actors accountable,” the state agency said in a statement Tuesday morning, without providing further details on the fraud allegations.

“We are pleased to see the state’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and our federal partners taking strong action based on information we have shared with them,” the statement continued. “We will continue sharing information with law enforcement to ensure they are able to conduct thorough criminal investigations.”

Search warrants can yield information in an investigation but don't always lead to criminal charges. Authorities had not charged or arrested anyone as of 4 p.m. Tuesday.

State and federal agencies have long worked together on criminal investigations — but the apparent cooperation in Tuesday’s operation was notable, given the tensions and conflict between state and federal officials during the federal immigration enforcement surge earlier this year.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz — who is set to give his final State of the State address on Tuesday night — issued a statement saying that “if you commit fraud in Minnesota you’re going to get caught — and that’s exactly what we saw today.”

“We catch criminals when state and federal agencies share information. Joint investigations work, and securing justice depends on it,” Walz said.

In a statement posted to social media on Tuesday morning, DHS said the criminal investigation related to “the rampant fraud of U.S. taxpayers dollars.”

“The American people deserve answers in how their taxpayer money was abused,” DHS said in a social media post.

The agency said it carried out the warrants “in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area” in cooperation with local and state law enforcement agencies. It did not release further details about the location and nature of the search warrants, citing the safety of law enforcement officers.

MPR News journalists observed federal and state law enforcement officials outside two childcare centers in south Minneapolis — including one where officials eventually hauled boxes of materials out of the building.

Sources told KARE 11 that authorities carried out more than 20 search warrants on Tuesday, focused on childcare and daycare providers. Several centers that work with people with autism also were part of the operation.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison’s office said its Medicare Fraud Control Unit participated in serving warrants Tuesday at five sites that serve people younger than 21 who have autism spectrum disorder. Those five sites are located in Mendota Heights, Savage, Fridley and Minneapolis.

Ellison’s office said it was not involved in search warrants at childcare facilities, because those sites do not involve Medicaid.

The city of Minneapolis issued a statement saying it was not involved in the operation — and that as of 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Minneapolis police hadn’t been asked to assist in the execution of the warrants.

“We understand that any federal actions in our neighborhoods may spark fear among residents, and we will continue to marshal city resources to help the community in the aftermath of Operation Metro Surge,” the city statement read.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that it has a task force officer assigned to the FBI’s Evidence Response Team, which was part of the operation. The sheriff’s office also said it had “two marked squad cars on two scenes to secure the perimeter as part of this criminal investigation. Perimeters help ensure the safety of both the community and the law enforcement officers who are executing the criminal warrants.”

“Our office works with local, state, and federal agencies on criminal investigations,” the sheriff’s office said.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension confirmed that it was partnering with federal investigators to execute search warrants Tuesday, but declined further comment.

In a statement Tuesday morning, Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Emmer of Minnesota applauded the law enforcement operation.

“President Trump and his administration have made it crystal clear — our country will not tolerate waste, fraud, and abuse, and we are not going to allow people to take advantage of Americans’ generosity,” Emmer wrote.

Former Fauci aide charged with conspiring to evade Covid-related records requests

A former senior official at the National Institutes of Health has been indicted on obstruction of justice and conspiracy charges for allegedly concealing federal records about research into viruses like the one that caused the Covid pandemic.

David Morens, 78, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Greenbelt, Maryland, earlier this month on three felony counts for allegedly using a Gmail account to hide official communications about controversial federally funded projects studying coronaviruses in bats. The indictment was unsealed Monday, when Morens made a brief appearance in court and was released on his own recognizance, according to court records.

According to the indictment, Morens sent and received emails on his private account in order to thwart Freedom of Information Act requesters seeking information about so-called gain-of-function research, which can make pathogens deadlier or more transmissible in order to study them.

After the outbreak of the Covid pandemic, at least eight FOIA requests were submitted for such records by organizations including Science Magazine, Judicial Watch and the Heritage Foundation, the indictment says.

Morens served as a senior adviser to Anthony Fauci, the former longtime director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which is part of the NIH. Fauci became the face of the Covid-19 pandemic response, gaining fans but also numerous detractors, including many Republicans and the now-Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Fauci, who is not accused of wrongdoing in the case, distanced himself from Morens in a 2024 congressional hearing, saying he and Morens didn’t work together closely.

The indictment references two unindicted co-conspirators. They are not charged with any crime and were not identified by name in the indictment.

Records released in congressional investigations into Morens’ actions indicate they are Peter Daszak, a zoologist and former president of the EcoHealth Alliance, and Gerald Keusch, a physician and former associate director of Boston University’s infectious disease lab.

Morens’ lawyer declined to comment. Keusch and attorneys for Daszak did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

Republicans and Democrats sharply criticized Morens at the 2024 House hearing, saying his actions showed a disrespect for the public’s right to know and that he appeared to have intentionally deleted emails relevant to the issue.

The indictment stops short of actually accusing Morens of deleting emails that were federal records, but it references a 2021 message Morens sent, saying: “I learned from our FOIA lady here how to make emails disappear after I am FOIA’d, but before the search starts, so I think we are all safe. Plus, I deleted most of those earlier emails after sending them to Gmail.”

During the House hearing, Morens said he’d never actually received such advice. Morens also said he had tried not to conduct official business on his private email account and any mention he made of deleting was about personal emails.

Several lawmakers had urged the Justice Department to investigate Morens, including Sen. Rand Paul, who sent then Attorney General Merrick Garland a letter in May 2024 citing “strong evidence that Dr. Morens violated federal law by concealing and destroying federal records.”

House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer issued a statement Tuesday praising prosecutors for indicting Morens.

“We caught Dr. Morens red-handed,” Comer said. “I applaud the Trump Justice Department for taking action to hold this public official accountable for hiding information from the American people.”

🚨EXCLUSIVE REPORT🚨

Infowars writer Jamie White’s murderer Rodney Hill had his sentencing hearing moments ago.

The judge just ripped the prosecutor after reading a victim’s impact statement from Jamie’s sister.

The judge said they will NOT ACCEPT a plea deal that gives Hill less than 25 years in prison.

The prosecutor was offering Hill 20 years in the plea deal.

Hill will reappear in court on Thursday.

If Hill does not accept the judge’s terms, he will go to trial.

Hill rapped in a song about murdering Jamie and cited his “white” race.

I exclusively obtained audio of Hill’s friend saying Rodney shot Jamie the moment Jamie attempted to confront the group while they were stealing his Kia.

ICE Arrests Illegal Alien Semi-Truck Driver Who Killed Honeymooners in Oregon After Sanctuary Politicians Released Him From Jail

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested an illegal alien after Oregonian sanctuary politicians released him back into the local community after he killed two people in Deschutes County, Oregon while driving a semi-truck in 2025.

On November 24, 2025, Rajinder Kumar jackknifed his semi-truck and trailer, blocking both lanes of U.S. Highway 20. A Subaru Outback collided with the semi-truck, tragically killing both the driver, William Micah Carter, and passenger, Jennifer Lynn Lower. According to reporting, the couple had been married for just 16 days.

On April 2, 2026, Oregon sanctuary politicians refused to cooperate with ICE and RELEASED Kumar back onto the streets of Oregon. On April 22, 2026, ICE arrested Rajinder.

Now, he is being held at the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma and has been placed in removal proceedings.

“This illegal alien was issued a CDL by Gavin Newsom’s California. He then went on to recklessly drive a truck on America’s highways and KILL two honeymooners. Instead of cooperating with ICE law enforcement, Oregon sanctuary politicians RELEASED him from jail back into American communities,” said Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis. “Every time sanctuary politicians release a dangerous criminal illegal alien back into our communities, they are gambling with American lives. We are grateful to our ICE law enforcement officers who tracked this killer down to ensure he’s permanently removed from America’s highways and can never harm another American family again.”

Kumar entered the U.S. illegally near Lukeville, Arizona on November 28, 2022. The Biden administration RELEASED him into the country.

Then, sanctuary politicians continued to provide cover for this illegal alien who never should have been in the country in the first place.

Gavin Newsom’s California gave him a commercial driver’s license, and the Biden administration gave him a work authorization.

DHS law enforcement is protecting American communities every day from another senseless tragedy like this taking place in another town, to another family. Victims of illegal alien crime may receive support from the Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement (VOICE) Office by contacting 1-855-488-6423.

After Paul Pelosi was attacked in 2022, Jake Tapper did an entire show on the dangers of stochastic terrorism and of systematically demonizing a person.

Tapper blamed the right and QAnon for inciting the attack. He said calling someone a pedophile or claiming that someone is out to hurt people will result in violence.

Hey Jake, the entire platform of the Democrat party for the past year has been to call Trump a pedophile and to claim that he is out to hurt people. It's also what Jimmy Kimmel does almost every night.

Now after Jimmy Kimmel's "joke" about Melania being a widow, Tapper says that jokes are just jokes and are not calls for violence.
