Seeing Titan
Shrouded in a thick atmosphere, the surface of Saturn's largest moon, Titan, is really hard to see. Small particles suspended in Titan's upper atmosphere cause an almost impenetrable haze, strongly scattering light at visible wavelengths and hiding surface features from prying eyes. Still, Titan's surface is better imaged at infrared wavelengths, where scattering is weaker and atmospheric absorption is reduced. Arrayed around this visible light image (center) of Titan are some of the clearest global infrared views of the tantalizing moon so far. In false color, the six panels present a consistent processing of 13 years of infrared image data from the Visual and Infrared Mapping Spectrometer (VIMS) on board the Cassini spacecraft orbiting Saturn from 2004 to 2017. They offer a stunning comparison with Cassini's visible light view. NASA's revolutionary rotorcraft mission to Titan's surface is due to launch no earlier than July, 2028.

Artemis II astronauts underscore our shared humanity, in historic UN visit
1 May 2026
Their visit on Thursday followed a long-standing tradition – cosmonauts and astronauts have been coming to the UN for decades to speak about peace, international cooperation, and our shared global future.
The four-person crew carried out the farthest human spaceflight in history, travelling beyond the far side of the Moon and safely returning to Earth after 10 intense, demanding, and inspiring days.
In that short time, as noted during the event, they “captured the imagination of billions” and rekindled a sense of shared human participation in the exploration of space.
Tradition and continuity
The General Assembly building has long welcomed pioneers of the space age, starting with Soviet cosmonauts Yuri Gagarin and Valentina Tereshkova – the first man and woman in space.
Their October 1963 visit symbolised not only technological progress but also the idea that cosmos is a domain where humanity can be united.
Since then, representatives of many nations have repeatedly addressed the international community, emphasising that space exploration is impossible without cooperation and shared responsibility.
Artemis II continues that legacy. The mission represents not only a technological breakthrough but also a model of international partnership, involving multiple countries and institutions, including the European Space Agency, with scientific instruments and systems developed by specialists from around the world.
“I had the opportunity to talk to everyone on the way here – I mean to these three pretty normal but pretty overachieving Americans and a Canadian,” said US Ambassador Mike Waltz, who hosted the evening discussion in front of an invited audience of excited earthlings with the astronauts.
The crew stressed that their task was not only to test a spacecraft, but also to remind people on the ground that humanity can achieve great things when it works together.
Earth from deep space
For all the astronauts, the most powerful experience was seeing Earth from deep space.
From hundreds of thousands of miles away, the planet appeared small, fragile, almost weightless against the vast darkness - an image that underscored both Earth’s uniqueness and the rarity of life itself.
“I always felt urged to just be grateful for what we were seeing and to be grateful for what we were eventually going back to,” said pilot Victor Glover.
1/2
Astronaut Christina Koch described a sudden awareness of humanity’s scale within the boundless universe.
“You realize that actually there’s nothing absolute or guaranteed about this, and that actually there is such thing as a global scale…this scale is our world and what we do with it is our choice.”
Life on board
Life inside the spacecraft was highly demanding. The crew had to balance experiments, navigation, system monitoring, and constant adaptation to microgravity.
“One day, I was opening up some granola with berries. Victor was floating kind of beside me, and just when I ripped the package, it just went too fast and it flung stuff flying across the spacecraft, and it’s like dotting his shirt.
“And he’s like, ‘Oh, don’t worry, I got this’. And he takes a spoon and he just starts eating it off of his shirt,” recalled Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen.
A return to the Moon
Artemis II is only the beginning of a broader effort. The programme aims to return humans to the Moon, establish a sustained presence on its surface, and build infrastructure – including a lunar base – to support long-term exploration.
These plans are grounded in the Artemis Accords, a set of international principles already endorsed by dozens of countries.
Speaking from the UN platform, the astronauts also addressed young people, encouraging them not to be afraid to ask questions and to listen carefully to the answers.
In closing, the crew emphasized that Artemis II was measured not only in distance or technological achievement.
Space offers a perspective that allows us to see Earth as it truly is: unique, shared, in need of care – and capable of bringing people together.
“Everyone asks what the Earth looks like from space, and most of the time I reply, the tiny Earth is an incredible place,” Reid Wiseman concluded.
Reaching for the stars
Meanwhile, a NASA aerospace engineer who grew up in Tanzania dreaming of becoming an astronaut, used to think that this was practically impossible.
Today, Alinda Mashiku is a Program Manager with the US space agency, where she helps ensure that satellites avoid collisions in orbit, contributing to the safety and sustainability of pioneering space missions such as Artemis II.

Forging the future: Securing strategic satellite communications through industry partnership
May 1, 2026
By System Delta 88
Space Systems Command
In an era of intensifying strategic competition in which the space domain is more contested than ever, ensuring the Nation's military communications remain secure and resilient is paramount.
To continue fortifying its current capabilities, Space System Command’s System Delta 88 hosted a comprehensive, multiday Strategic SATCOM Reverse Industry Day event in partnership with the SATShow 2026 Conference in March in Washington, D.C.
The event served as a two-way channel, allowing SYD 88 to communicate its needs, and offered industry an opportunity to respond and showcase their innovative solutions.
Reverse Industry Days are designed to help strengthen commercial partnerships and accelerate the development of next-generation capabilities for warfighters.
Setting the Stage: The "Why" Behind the Mission
The event began with an intelligence threat brief from Chief Master. Sgt. Ron Lerch, senior enlisted advisor to the Deputy Chief of Space Operations for Intelligence.
This set the stage, giving industry partners a clear, unvarnished look at the operational environment, adversary capabilities and potential future threats.
Col. Ryan Rose, system program director for Strategic SATCOM, followed up by underscoring the gravity of Strategic SATCOM’s task, describing it as a "no-fail mission that must provide communication links for the president and national command authorities."
The high-stakes reality of the mission framed every discussion that followed.
Addressing the adversary threat directly, Rose said, "We know that China and Russia are deploying technologies to try to jam and interfere with our operations, and we are taking steps to ensure our system is threat-informed and responsive.
In order to stay relevant, we must adapt."
A New Acquisition Mindset
The central theme of the Reverse Industry Day event was the U.S. Space Force’s new approach to acquisition, including its embrace of a “commercial-first” mindset.
Historically, the Space Force has only acquired Strategic SATCOM capabilities from a small number of traditional defense primes, often delivering capabilities years later than initially projected.
Space Force leaders have emphasized that transforming the acquisition process is a core warfighting imperative.
"This event is about more than just briefings; it's about actively seeking partners—from nontraditional vendors to our established primes—to foster a competitive and resilient industrial base," said Capt.
Gerald Hills, the lead organizer for the event. "To outpace the threat, we must move at the speed of relevance, and that means leveraging open systems and embracing the full spectrum of innovation that industry has to offer."
1/2
This new mindset was echoed in the main panel discussion.
When asked about the single greatest challenge, Col. A.J. Ashby, SYD 88 commander, said: "Integration timelines must compress dramatically given the threat pace. Our acquisition strategies are threat-driven and risk-informed.”
“To accelerate American resiliency and lethality in space, our capability delivery timelines will require a robust industrial base, supply chain integrity, and prevalidated security architectures,” Ashby continued.
“The Secretary's Acquisition Transformation Strategy mandates commercial-first policies and embracing calculated risks to achieve greater speed and performance."
The Outcomes: Deep Dives and Key Takeaways
While the main panel set the tone, the real work of the Reverse Industry Day happened in the days that followed.
SYD 88 conducted a series of intensive one-on-one engagements and classified sessions with industry partners to learn more about capabilities in development.
These meetings allowed for candid discussions about specific technical solutions offered by industry and how they align with the government's focus areas.
From these deep dives, several key themes and outcomes emerged:
A Consensus on Hybrid Architectures: There was agreement regarding the need for a disaggregated, multi-orbit approach with multiple commercial providers to eliminate single points of failure.
The Demand for Speed and Agility: Industry partners understood the call for rapid, iterative development. Discussions focused on leveraging pre-validated security architectures, Modular Open Systems Approaches (MOSA), and innovative contracting vehicles to accelerate certification and fielding.
Strengthening the Industrial Base: Frank conversations outlined the risks associated with long-lead times for radiation-hardened parts and the need to incentivize domestic production capacity.
Supply chain security, from the semiconductor level to transportation and logistics, was identified as a critical problem that requires a robust partnership to solve.
Looking Forward: The Path Ahead
This Reverse Industry Day was a critical milestone that will continue to inform Strategic SATCOM’s future direction.
The insights gained from the white papers, the panel, and the industry meetings are already informing the acquisition strategy for the Space Force’s next generation of strategic satellite communications.
By engaging with warfighters, operators, acquirers, and industry from the very beginning, System Delta 88 is charting a new course for acquiring Strategic SATCOM capabilities.
Lt. Col. Joey Aguilo, space program manager for Strategic SATCOM, said, “We are moving beyond simply buying satellites; we are building a resilient, integrated and enduring capability with our partners to ensure the United States maintains the ultimate high ground for this no-fail mission.”

King Charles launches UK Space Agency project as final engagement in Bermuda
02/05/2026 - 16:11 Updated: 02/05/2026 - 16:19
King Charles concludes his landmark two-day visit to Bermuda today by officially launching the UK Space Agency's Project Nova, an ambitious initiative designed to monitor debris orbiting Earth.
The monarch has made history during this trip, becoming the first reigning King to set foot on the British Overseas Territory in its four centuries of existence.
"I am told to my amazement it is also the first time in Bermuda's four-hundred-year history that the islands have received a reigning King," he remarked to guests at a garden party on Friday evening.
"I am terribly sorry it has taken so long!"
The Project Nova initiative will see the establishment of a new UKSA observatory on the island, forming part of an international network spanning five locations worldwide.
This sophisticated system of telescopes will enable scientists to track defunct satellites, discarded rocket stages, and various other objects cluttering Earth's orbital environment.
Space debris has become an increasingly pressing concern for the global space industry, with thousands of fragments posing potential hazards to operational spacecraft and future missions.
During his visit to the observatory site, the King, who looked suave in a grey pinstripe suit paired with sunglasses to combat the glorious sunshine, received a comprehensive briefing on how this cutting-edge monitoring programme will contribute to safeguarding space infrastructure.
The King's final day will also include the official opening of the new Great Bay Coast Guard Station, where he will learn about the Royal Bermuda Regiment's Coast Guard and its vital role in defending the territory's waters and marine ecosystems.
His Majesty will be shown the regiment's latest technological capabilities, including unmanned underwater and aerial vehicles now deployed in their operations.
Young participants from the Junior Leader programme will have the opportunity to speak with the King about their experiences.
Before departing, the King will present operational service medals to five regiment members in recognition of their dedicated service protecting the island.
Friday evening saw a reception at Government House, where the King has been residing throughout his stay on the island.
His Majesty noted to attendees that the residence had been so recently refurbished that it still carried the scent of fresh paint.
Raising his glass to toast the territory, the monarch expressed warm sentiments about Britain's relationship with the island.
"I need hardly say that Bermuda, like all the Overseas Territories, is a most cherished and important member of the British family with a friendship as solid as this so-called 'Rock'," he declared.
The two-day visit has underscored the enduring bonds between the Crown and its Atlantic territory.

Zelensky ‘involved up to his neck’ in corruption – ex-Ukrainian diplomat
1 May, 2026 10:11 | Updated 1 May, 2026 15:45
Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky is deeply implicated in corruption schemes and a broader power struggle in Kiev, former Ukrainian diplomat and ex-Prosecutor General’s advisor Andrey Telizhenko told RT on Thursday.
He added that the recordings published by Ukrainian media as the “Mindich tapes” are exposing the early stages of a wider network of financial wrongdoing.
Earlier this week Ukrainian media published transcripts of the covert recordings from an anti-corruption probe, indicating that businessman Timur Mindich, widely described as close to Zelensky, effectively ran the weapons firm Fire Point despite public denials.
The materials show him discussing funding, contracts, and foreign investors with then Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, now head of the National Security and Defense Council.
The head of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry Public Oversight Council, Yury Hudimenko, said the recordings suggest “at least five to six crimes” that could be proven in court, pointing to potential links between the two.
The council warned that Fire Point could be barred from state contracts if the link is confirmed. The company has been promoted by Zelensky abroad as a flagship defense project, while national media have long referred to Mindich as “Zelensky’s wallet.”
The transcripts point to close links between the businessman, the firm, and figures in the president’s inner circle. A certain “Vova” – the familiar form of Vladimir – is mentioned several times in the recordings.
“Zelensky’s name is in there… this is just the beginning of his involvement,” Telizhenko said.
“He’s involved… up to his neck in money‑laundering schemes,” he claimed, adding that people like Mindich and [Sergey] Shefir, Zelensky’s business partner and former top aide,”are working by his side.”
Telizhenko said the developments reflect a broader struggle, claiming “the British are controlling the situation,” and “investing into the military industrial complex of Ukraine.” London has pledged a record package of more than 120,000 drones for Ukraine this year.
He described the situation in Kiev as “a power grab,” claiming that “Zelensky is right in the hotspot of it,” and predicting that “he’s going to be done. He will have nowhere to go.” Telizhenko insisted that “The West is trying to leak and destroy Zelensky, get him out of power.”
Commenting on continued foreign support for Kiev, he claimed that Western Europe is “involved in this corruption scheme right from the beginning,” adding that that they “are going to continue to push the money, because they are making profit from this.”
The EU’s actions have drawn criticism from Russia and some of the bloc’s members. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stated in December that Brussels did not want to expose Ukrainian corruption because it was “also riddled with a similar corruption network.”
Addressing the scale of alleged corruption, Telizhenko tinsisted that “this is just the tip of the iceberg […]
There’s not only $100 million… there’s billions and billions,” he said, claiming that “there’s around $120 billion that were laundered throughout this war just from what I know.”
Telizhenko said more revelations could follow, saying “within the next couple of weeks, we’re going to see more tapes with Vova… more and more come up.”

They said Karimpour passed sensitive information to a Mossad officer, while Bakarzadeh was accused of collecting details on government and religious figures and key sites, including in the Natanz area.

RSF Drone Strike Kills Five in Sudan Capital
16:45-2 May 2026
A paramilitary drone killed five civilians on Saturday when it hit a vehicle in greater Khartoum, a rights group said, the second such attack in the Sudanese capital this week.
Drone attacks by both Sudan's army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) which have been at war since April 2023 have intensified across the country in recent months, at times killing dozens of people in a single strike.
Emergency Lawyers, a Sudanese legal advocacy group documenting abuses during the conflict, said an RSF drone struck a civilian vehicle on the Jammouiya Triangle road Saturday morning in southern Omdurman just across the Nile from Khartoum proper killing all those on board.
The vehicle was travelling from the Sheikh al-Siddiq area in White Nile state, about 90 kilometers (56 miles) south of Khartoum, the group said.
Last Tuesday, a drone strike hit a hospital in the Jebel Awliya area, around 40 kilometers (25 miles) south of central Khartoum, a security source and eyewitnesses told AFP.
It was the first such attack on the capital in months, after the area was recaptured by the army a year ago from its paramilitary rivals.
Jebel Awliya had been the RSF's last foothold in Khartoum state before the army's rapid counteroffensive, which pushed the paramilitary west towards its stronghold in the Darfur region.
The RSF carried out a series of drone strikes on Khartoum last year, largely targeting military sites, power stations and water infrastructure.
In recent months, however, the capital has seen relative calm. More than 1.8 million displaced residents have returned and the airport has resumed domestic flights, although much of the city remains without electricity or basic services.
Fighting has since been concentrated in Darfur, where the army lost its last base in October, and in Kordofan, where the RSF has sought to regain control of Sudan's key east-west highway.
Violence has also spread to southeastern Blue Nile state near the border with Ethiopia, raising fears of a more prolonged and fragmented conflict.
Now in its fourth year, the war has killed tens of thousands of people with some estimates putting the death toll above 200,000 displaced millions and triggered one of the world's largest humanitarian crises.

NEW Burlison: “The Trump administration is taking this investigation seriously”
May 01, 2026
Rep. Eric Burlison (R-MO) — Member, Secrets Task Force & Oversight Committee
Ask a Pol asks:
Is the FBI involved with the Trump administration’s release of UFO files and the “missing” scientists?
“The Trump administration is taking this investigation seriously.”
Key Burlison:
“Yeah,” Rep. Eric Burlison exclusively tells Ask a Pol UAP. “I mean, they’re on the investigation on the missing people, the FBI is fully involved.
But you also have people that are working the issue to release all the documents and files.”
Caught our ear:
“Just a logical person would look at these and say some of these people that have been lumped in by the press, mostly, there’s not a connection,” Burlison tells us.
“They’re all sad circumstances, but there’s not a connection. But it is worth looking into General McCasland and his disappearance.”
Will there be a hearing? “We’ll try,” Burlison says.

Mothership Zion: the alien cult that tried to get Israel to build a UFO embassy in Jerusalem
May 2, 2026
The Raëlians mixed UFO theology, biblical reinterpretation and hostility toward Israel, claiming Jews should leave the country while still seeking Jerusalem as the landing site for humanity’s alien creators
It sounds like a plot rejected from “The X-Files” for being too on the nose: A UFO cult asks Israel for land in Jerusalem so it can build an embassy for aliens.
But the Raëlians were serious. For decades, the French-born movement has insisted that humanity was created by extraterrestrial scientists called the Elohim, that those aliens were mistaken for gods and that they will return to Earth only after humans build them a proper diplomatic compound — preferably in Jerusalem, complete with a landing pad for their spacecraft. The movement still presents the embassy as one of its central missions.
The Raëlian Movement was founded in the 1970s by Claude Vorilhon, a former French auto racing journalist who renamed himself Raël after claiming he had encountered an extraterrestrial being near a volcano in France.
In the Raëlian version of history, the Bible is not a sacred text about God but a badly misunderstood user manual from space. “Elohim,” the Hebrew word traditionally translated as God, is recast by the group as a reference to beings who “came from the sky.”
That is why Jerusalem mattered so much. The Raëlians did not want to build their alien embassy in Nevada, Geneva or some empty patch of desert with good UFO aesthetics.
They wanted the Holy City. In their telling, the embassy would function as a futuristic “Third Temple” — not for Jewish worship, but for the return of the extraterrestrial creators who, they say, engineered life on Earth.
The proposed compound was wonderfully absurd in the way only a bureaucratic UFO religion can be.
It was to include meeting rooms, protected guest quarters, a landscaped park, special diplomatic-style status and a landing pad large enough for a spaceship. Less “Close Encounters,” more extraterrestrial consulate with zoning issues.
Israeli officials, unsurprisingly, did not go for it.
Kobi Drori, an Israeli Raëlian guide, said in 2005 that the movement had approached Israeli governments more than seven times.
According to him, Yitzhak Rabin’s government said no, Ehud Barak’s office said it had no time to deal with the request and Ariel Sharon’s office said the matter had been passed along. The embassy was never approved.
The Raëlians also claimed Lebanon had discussed hosting the project, but only if the group agreed not to display its symbol. They refused.
That symbol explains a great deal about why the relationship between the Raëlians, Israel and Judaism was always radioactive. The movement’s emblem historically combined a Star of David with a swastika.
Raëlians claim the swastika is an ancient symbol of infinity, not a Nazi reference, and for a period they modified the logo in some countries, saying they wanted to show respect for Holocaust victims and ease negotiations with Israel.
But the original symbol later returned as the movement’s official worldwide emblem.
1/2
The problem was not only aesthetic. The Raëlian relationship with Judaism is built on appropriation, inversion and hostility.
The group borrows Jewish language, Jewish symbols and Jewish messianic concepts, then uses them to argue that mainstream Judaism and Israeli Jews have misunderstood their own tradition.
Over time, the movement’s rhetoric toward Israel hardened into open anti-Zionism and antisemitic language.
In 2015, the International Raëlian Movement announced that it was ending its support for Zionism after Raël claimed to have received a new message from Yahweh, whom the group describes not as the God of Israel but as the leader of the Elohim.
In that message, the movement urged Jews to leave Israel, called anti-Zionists the “only true Jews,” described Raëlians as the real Jews and portrayed Palestinians as the descendants of ancient Jews.
The movement’s own wording went further, referring to some Jews as “false Jews” from Europe and telling Jews to leave Israel, convert to Raëlianism and support the Palestinians.
This was not a stray comment from an obscure member. It was published through official Raëlian channels.
Then came ElohimLeaks, a Raëlian site presenting supposed messages from the aliens about secret government plots.
Its Israel-related claims read like a greatest-hits album of conspiracy thinking: Israeli plans for false-flag attacks, biological warfare, plots involving Gaza, Syria, Iran, Turkey and the United States, and claims that Israel would kill its own citizens to manipulate world opinion.
One post claimed elements in the Israeli government were considering a false-flag bombing in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem that would kill thousands of Israelis and be blamed on Palestinians.
This is where the kooky becomes darker. The Raëlians’ Jerusalem fantasy was wrapped in flying saucers, cloned prophets and cosmic diplomacy. But their later Israel material leaned heavily into antisemitic conspiracies:
Jews as impostors, Israel as uniquely evil and Israeli intelligence as secretly staging mass murder. Holocaust denial, which the ADL describes as an antisemitic conspiracy theory, also appeared in Raël’s orbit, according to the material you provided.
So the story has a built-in contradiction. The Raëlians wanted Israel to give them a foothold in Jerusalem because they viewed the Jewish people and the Hebrew Bible as central to their cosmic origin story.
At the same time, they promoted a worldview that recast Israeli Jews as illegitimate, demanded that Jews leave the country and replaced Judaism with what amounted to Raëlian Judaism — a UFO theology in which the “true Jews” are the people waiting for aliens to land.
The embassy never happened. The Elohim did not arrive. Jerusalem did not become the galaxy’s most contested arrivals terminal.
But the campaign remains one of the strangest footnotes in Israel’s long history with prophets, pilgrims and messianic real estate schemes:
the time an alien cult tried to convince the Jewish state to build a Third Temple for extraterrestrials, then turned around and told the Jews they were doing Judaism wrong.
