The time, life force, energy, money, legal fees, fear of losing livelihood (hard-earned licenses to practice law, reputations in the field of practice, ability to make a living in middle age and after), … So many consequences, the financial and professional worries rob precious life force from living life, vacations, time with loved ones, physical health, and basic joys of life. Sheer exhaustion. Having to spend money to defend yourself from lawfare when your ability to make money had been strangled away from you by virtue of the pariah effect of the accusations.
Vicious, not fighting fairly, unconscionable.
It is not just about "punishing" and destroying those who try to stand up to them, it is about discouraging anyone else who is thinking about it from sticking their neck(s) out (strongly encouraging - through example to those who do - "good men [and women] to do nothing").
