A Master Mason is the third and highest degree in Symbolic (Blue Lodge) Freemasonry, representing a full member who has completed a journey of self-discovery through three degrees: Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft, and Master Mason. Candidates must pass proficiency tests on preceding degrees, with the process typically taking six weeks to six months, though it can vary. Master Masons enjoy full voting rights, can hold office, visit lodges worldwide, and join appendant bodies like the Scottish Rite or Shrine.

Washington had the "honor" of a mason bestowed upon him because his life was lived in a manner that masons viewed to embody the character of a true mason. Washington was barely ever in a masonic lodge.

I can't remember the site but there are a couple that tells of Washington corresponding with someone concerned about Washington getting entangled with masonic organizations connected with the illuminati. Masonic organizations seeking to influence him were of German and French origin not the English lodges that dominated early American masonry. The German and French had and still do a dominate presence in Pennsylvania but little influence elsewhere back then.

Anon is correct in his assessment of typical masons beliefs regarding Washington, but there was a very large number of masons who were numbered with our founding Fathers. Not all were necessarily highly influential but were among them; giving their consent.
