NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — At Norfolk International Airport, you don’t want to get in the way when three HVAC technicians are on their way to a job in Indianapolis, Indiana. Time means money for them. “Time frame is huge for us because it’s all about scheduling. Because we got to meet cranes and helicopters and stuff like that,” said Donny Davidson as the team rushed off to Concourse B Thursday.
Because of the government shutdown, the FAA has ordered airlines to reduce by 10%, flights in and out of major airports including Hartsfield in Atlanta, Charlotte,JFK and LA.

“Well, I just think that, it’s going to definitely affect me because I come here to do real estate and then I have my CBD shop in Norfolk.So, I mean, I need to be out of here to get my workspace stuff. And then also, I’m in the music business in Atlanta, so it definitely would cripple me,” said Upton.
The FAA is expected to release additional details over the next couple days in what it calls a plan to ease stress on the nation’s unpaid air controllers. One source tells 10 On Your Side airports are bracing for potential problems as airlines haven’t even figured out where to park the grounded planes.
Since it’s a small world after all, the Southland family is taking it all in stride. They’re headed to Disneyland. “Yeah, we may be delayed or canceled, and I think of our backup. We always go a day early, so we’ll drive down in 14 hours. We’ve done it before. So that’s the backup plan,” said Southland.
AAA of Tidewater advises travelers to stay as up to date with information from their airlines, consider driving to destinations, arrive at the airport extra early, and come up with a plan B.
