The U.S. Senate unanimously passed the Maverick Act (S. 4161) by unanimous consent on April 28, 2026. The bill authorizes the Navy to transfer three specific retired F-14 Tomcats (including F-14D models with Bureau Numbers 164341, 164602, and F-14A 159437) from the Arizona boneyard (AMARG/Davis-Monthan) to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center Commission in Huntsville, Alabama.

As of May 2026, Iran has no (or effectively zero) operational F-14 Tomcats left, with only an estimated 20–30 total airframes remaining many of them damaged, non-airworthy, or cannibalized for parts …

Not exactly like a classic U.S. "boneyard".

 

Iran never had a dedicated, centralized aircraft boneyard for its F-14s. Instead, the remaining 20/30 airframes (pre-March 2026 strikes) were concentrated almost entirely at the 8th Tactical Air Base in Isfahan.

 

Israeli airstrikes in March 2026 (and earlier ones in 2025) hit this exact base. Satellite imagery from March 9 shows at least 8 destroyed F-14s turned into scorched wreckage or black burn marks right on the tarmac and near aircraft shelters …
