Star CNN correspondent Clarissa Ward worked with al-Qaeda “media man” Bilal Abdul Kareem to gain access to her “heroes on the ground.”
On June 16, an American media activist living in rebel-held Syrian territory sat down before a camera to vent his frustration with a former employer. Bilal Abdul Kareem described how he and his online outlet, On the Ground News, had been contracted by CNN to film the documentary Undercover in Syria.
“This was with CNN and their correspondent Clarissa Ward, which I have big-time respect for, big-time respect as a journalist, as a person,” Abdul Kareem remarked.
With a sardonic grin, Abdul Kareem described how he was slighted: “This Undercover in Syria, you can Google it — it won the prestigious Peabody Award, and it won the prestigious Overseas Press Club Award, which are basically the highest awards in journalism for international reporting. Now, [CNN] barely mentioned my name! I’m telling you, somehow CNN must have forgotten that I was the one that filmed it, I guess they forgot that.”

The Latest: Venezuela's Maduro blames 'far-right' for attack
CARACAS, Venezuela – The Latest on explosions at speech given by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro (all times local):
8:05 p.m.
President Nicolas Maduro is blaming far-right factions in Venezuela for what he is describing as an assassination attempt.
In an address to the nation Saturday, Maduro said: "This was an attempt to kill me. Today they attempted to assassinate me."
He said evidence gathered thus far "points to the far right" working in conjunction with Colombians in the neighboring Andean nation.
Maduro said he believed Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos was also responsible.
He added police had made arrests in the incident but did not immediately provide any further details.
Colombians officials have not yet commented on the accusation. Santos has become one of Maduro's most outspoken critics.

A previously unknown group has claimed responsibility for an attempted attack on Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro.
Soldiers in T-shirts said in a tweet Saturday that it planned to fly two drones loaded with explosives at the president, but government soldiers shot them down before reaching its target.
The Associated Press could not independently verify the authenticity of message.
The group says that while it was not successful at first, it's just a matter of time before it is.
The organization did not respond to a message seeking more information.
Maduro was unharmed in the attack.

Colombian FM Refutes Claims on Involvement of Santos in Failed Assassination
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said Sunday that the failed assassination was plotted by the Venezuelan right-wing forces as well as by the Colombian right under the country's President Juan Manuel Santos.
Colombia's Foreign Ministry said on Sunday that Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos is not responsible for the failed attempt of assassination of his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro despite the claims that the latter has made against him.
“The claims that the Colombian leader could be responsible for a supposed assassination of the Venezuelan president sound absurd and lack basis, ”the ministry said in a statement.
Bogota also went on to urge Caracas to respect Santos and noted that Maduro often accuses Colombia of all problems.
Earlier in the day, Maduro said that he was attacked by several drones loaded with explosives during his address at a public event in Caracas. The president and the officials, who were present at the demonstration, were unhurt in the incident.
Maduro said in his first address to the nation after the attack on him that "the investigation was launched immediately, it has already moved forward, some organizers of the assassination have already been detained." Mduro also said that some other plotters were living in the United States, adding that he asked his US counterpart Donald Trump for a help in bringing the alleged suspects to the justice.
However, earlier in the day, Venezuelan mysterios rebel group dubbed "Flannel Soldiers" claimed responsibility for the attempt of President Nicolas Maduro’s assassination.
Venezuelan Prosecutor General Tarek William Saab said on Sunday that a probe has been launched into the failed attempt of President Nicolas Maduro’s assassination.
