Provenance: 1947 Twin Falls “Flying Saucer” Article Found in DOW/PURSUE UFO Release 01
This 1947 “flying saucer” newspaper article has a real provenance trail.
The Department of War/PURSUE UAP release from May 8, 2026 includes FBI file 62-HQ-83894, Serial 130.
Inside that file is a Twin Falls, Idaho Times-News article from August 15, 1947:
“Heads Up, Folks! The Discs Are Flying Again”
The article describes A.C. Urie’s sighting near Auger Falls Trout Farm in Snake River Canyon.
Urie reported seeing a disc-like object moving through the canyon about 75 feet above the canyon floor. He described it as roughly 20 feet long, 10 feet high, and 10 feet wide, and estimated its speed at about 1,000 mph.
This does not prove what the object was.
But it does show a clear source chain:
Official Dept. of War/PURSUE release
→ FBI file 62-HQ-83894, Serial 130
→ 1947 Twin Falls newspaper article
→ readable transcript preserved at Patrick Gross’ UFO archive
For anyone researching older UFO/UAP reports, this is a useful example of how a local 1947 newspaper account was preserved inside official historical files.
