California girl says 'hero' postal worker rescued her from world of sex trafficking

A California girl who claims she was trapped in a world of sex trafficking until recently credits a South Sacramento postal worker with her rescue.

In June, Ivan Crisostomo, a postal carrier, heard a “desperate crying” coming from behind a tree. When he looked around, he saw 16-year-old Crystal Allen.

"She started to point to her arm, saying: 'They were putting things in me. They were putting things in me. They are coming to get me,'" Crisostomo recalled Allen telling him, according to FOX 40.

She then told Crisostomo that she was able to escape her captors by jumping out of the car as they were driving through a neighborhood, managing to grab a cellphone on her way out.

Crisostomo and Allen used the phone to call the teen's mother, Stacy Ohman. Officials with the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department were also called.

The postal worker said he stayed with the 16-year-old until authorities arrived to take her to the hospital. She is now home with her family, CBS13 reported.

Allen was allegedly “drugged, tortured and abused” for three months before she escaped, the news station reported.

"I just cried all the time and prayed that I'd get to see my mom again," Allen said.

It is not currently clear whose Allen’s alleged captors are or how she became involved with them.

The teen and Crisostomo were reunited on Thursday, where she thanked him for helping her.

"Ivan himself is a hero for saving me," Allen told FOX 40. "Even though he doesn't think it."

Russian Envoy Suggests NATO Prevents Allies From Urging UK to Probe Skripal Case

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The discipline of NATO does not let the alliance’s members to strongly pressure London to release proof on Salisbury incident which would back its accusations against Moscow, Russian Ambassador the United Kingdom Alexander Yakovenko said.

“We met specifically with representatives of most countries here in London and all of them told us that the Brits did not provide any evidence to their allies to defend their theses. In Germany, I think, the issue of where the evidence is was raised really hard. But, unfortunately, the block discipline within NATO does not allow colleagues to strongly pressure the United Kingdom,” Yakovenko told the Rossiya 24 broadcaster late on Saturday.

Alexander Yakovenko also said on Saturday that only few countries outside the so-called Western bloc believe in the United Kingdom's interpretation of events in Salisbury in March.

"Every fortnight I gather ambassadors of all countries and brief them on the case. And I must say that, of course, outside the so-called Western bloc, which is comprised of 35 countries, few believe in the UK version," Yakovenko said in an interview with the Rossiya 24 broadcaster.

On March 4, Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia were found unconscious on a bench at a shopping center in Salisbury. The United Kingdom and its allies have accused Moscow of having orchestrated the attack with what UK experts claim was the A234 nerve agent, albeit without presenting any proof.

Russian authorities have strongly refuted the allegations as groundless. Both Skripals have been discharged from the hospital where they were being treated.

Shark Breeding on Reunion Island Deemed to be Cause of Spike in Deadly Attacks

It’s been five years since the residents of the French island of Reunion were banned from the ocean due to shark attacks, the number of which has increased 23 times over recent years. R

Researcher Jean-François Nativel believes that the French state is to blame because it had decided to create a huge marine reserve in close proximity to tourist beaches and surf spots.

On July 26, Reunion Islanders celebrated the fifth anniversary of the "provisional" ban on access to the ocean or 1,826 days of not being able to go for a swim. The island's residents have denounced the "absurd" situation and pointed to the state's responsibility.

"The fact that we're deprived of the sea is like we're in prison" — Annick Girardin, Minister of Overseas Territories, said during her visit to Reunion. A lot of islanders share this view: on July 26, a number of associations issued a joint statement denouncing the five years of the "temporary" ban on access to the ocean.

A number of inhabitants share the same view. Several groups have denounced the five years of a "temporary" ban on access to the ocean:

"This aggravates the absurdity of the situation on a French territory, an island, that lacks access to the ocean," they stated. Reunion is the region with the greatest number of shark attacks. A study by the University of La RĂ©union says that "the annual rate of shark bites in Reunion is among the highest in the world." The probability of being attacked by a shark "increased 23 times between 2005-2016" and surfing along the coastline "dropped tenfold between 2011 and 2016."
