Large crowds have descended upon central London for an anti-immigration rally dubbed ‘Unite the Kingdom’. Videos and photographs posted on social media on Saturday showed demonstrators assembling in the British capital hours before the main march began.

According to local media, citing the police, an estimated 50,000 people are expected to take part. The Guardian reported that more than 150,000 people turned up for the previous Unite the Kingdom rally last September.

Reports have emerged on social media claiming that police have already made at least one arrest, detaining right-wing activist Ryan Bridge. Continue…

U.S. official raises alarm over free speech in Canada

https://www.rebelnews.com/us_official_raises_alarm_over_free_speech_in_canada

A ruling from the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal recently found that conservative views were not a form of political speech, reported the National Post.

The case involved a tenure-track professor whose anti-DEI, pro-equality view did not “relate to a core belief about systems of social co-operation through governance, or issues that engage the form or functions of government,” found B.C. Human Rights Tribunal adjudicator Devyn Cousineau.

On Thursday's Rebel Roundup livestream, hosts Sheila Gunn Reid and Tamara Ugolini reacted to U.S. Under Secretary of State Sarah Rogers weighing in on the story.

“Here's where it becomes a problem,” remarked Sheila. “It's part of her job to care about the state of civil liberties at home and abroad, and now we're on their radar,” she said, noting the Trump administration was already concerned about the state of religious affairs in Canada. Continue…

Fact check: Lukaszuk appealed his own court case repeatedly, now says Alberta shouldn’t challenge a judge’s ruling

https://www.rebelnews.com/fact_check_lukaszuk_appealed_his_own_court_case_repeatedly_now_says_alberta_shouldn_t_challenge_a_judge_s_ruling

Former Alberta deputy premier Thomas Lukaszuk is criticizing Premier Danielle Smith for calling a recent court ruling “undemocratic” and signalling an appeal.

During a CBC panel discussion, Lukaszuk stated:

“Courts rule on what is right and what is wrong and what is lawful and what is illegal. They don't render popular decisions. They render righteous decisions.”

However, appealing court decisions is a standard part of the Canadian legal system — including in cases involving Lukaszuk himself.

Following the 2004 Alberta election in Edmonton-Castle Downs, Lukaszuk pursued multiple appeals after initially losing by a narrow margin to Liberal candidate Chris Kibermanis. Continue…

Alberta Fact Check: First Nations DO NOT monolithically oppose an independence referendum

https://www.rebelnews.com/alberta_fact_check_first_nations_do_not_monolithically_oppose_an_independence_referendum

In response to the court ruling quashing the Stay Free Alberta petition to invoke an independence referendum, Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation Chief Allan Adam was reported as saying, “The court has spoken — and so have the First Nations.”

While the court may have spoken through Liberal appointed Justice Shaina Leonard, it only spoke on behalf of a tiny segment of Alberta’s First Nations. Chief Adam only represents one small Indigenous band, and it can’t be assumed he speaks for all of them.

Adam is the chief of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation, which has a total of 1,567 registered members. Only 33 of those members live on reserve, and 213 live on adjacent Crown land.

At best, Adam may speak for 0.55% of Alberta’s Indigenous population.

Considering Allen’s habit of taking foreign funding and his history of adverse interactions with the RCMP, his voice is not one of the most credible when seeking input from First Nations, though legacy media regularly seek him out for comment.

Four Alberta chiefs took part in the court challenge against the citizens’ initiative petitioning. When combined, the membership of the bands represented by the chiefs is just over 9% of Alberta’s First Nations population. The other 44 Indigenous chiefs in Alberta did not take part in the court action.

Recent polling commissioned by Act For Alberta found 46% of First Nations respondents would vote for independence in a referendum.

This indicates that not only are First Nations members in Alberta divided on the question of independence, but support for the concept may be stronger among First Nations members than any other identifiable group in the province.

FACT CHECK: Sorry, Randy, no public evidence has linked Alberta’s referendum petition to foreign interference

https://www.rebelnews.com/sorry_randy_no_public_evidence_has_linked_albertas_referendum_petition_to_foreign_interference

Former Liberal cabinet minister Randy Boissonnault claimed during a CTV panel discussion that Alberta separatism is being fueled by “forces outside our country” and misinformation.

However, no public evidence has been presented showing foreign governments or foreign actors directed or controlled Alberta’s citizen initiative referendum petition campaign.

The RCMP has publicly stated it found no evidence of foreign interference connected to Alberta’s separatist movement.

At the same time, Elections Alberta has not yet verified the signatures collected for the proposed referendum petition.

That means claims about widespread fraud, manipulation, or foreign-directed activity tied to the petition itself have not been publicly established.

The ongoing debate surrounding Alberta independence has included accusations involving misinformation, foreign influence, and improper conduct.

But many of those claims remain political assertions from federalists, rather than verified findings from law enforcement or Elections Alberta.

Free Speech Union intervenes after Ezra Levant blocked from entering UK

https://www.rebelnews.com/free_speech_union_intervenes_after_ezra_levant_blocked_from_entering_uk

The UK-based Free Speech Union says it has taken up the case of Rebel News founder Ezra Levant after British authorities reportedly refused him entry to the United Kingdom ahead of the “Unite the Kingdom” rally in London.

In a statement posted Thursday on X, the organization said Levant’s Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) had been denied, prompting him to spend £1,000 on an expedited visa application in an attempt to board a flight scheduled for later that evening.

According to the Free Speech Union, the UK Home Office had still not responded to the application as of Thursday afternoon.

The organization argued that refusing Levant entry would amount to a violation of free expression principles, noting that the Canadian journalist has no criminal convictions and has never advocated violence or terrorism.

The group also pushed back against recent rhetoric from British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who described some individuals barred from attending the protest as “far-right agitators intent on coming to the UK to spew extremist views.”

The Free Speech Union said Levant does not fit that description and suggested his outspoken support for Israel may have contributed to the scrutiny surrounding his application.

The statement also drew a comparison to American political commentator Hasan Piker, claiming he has not faced similar restrictions despite past controversies surrounding his political rhetoric and an upcoming speaking engagement in the UK.

Levant is one of several foreign commentators and activists reportedly facing travel restrictions related to the London demonstration. Concerns have mounted among critics of the Starmer government that Britain’s ETA and visa systems are increasingly being used to police political speech rather than genuine security threats.

The Home Office has not publicly commented on Levant’s case.
