Another corruption scandal has erupted inside the federal contracting world.

The Department of Justice announced Wednesday that two Florida defense contractors were arrested and charged in what prosecutors describe as a bribery and major fraud conspiracy that allegedly corrupted the competitive procurement process for a Department of War technology innovation project in the Pacific.

According to the DOJ, Leonard Pick, 62, of Palm Beach Shores, and Brian Kent, 59, of Tampa, allegedly orchestrated a scheme involving bribery, fraudulent contracting practices, and manipulation of the bidding process tied to the U.S. Army Pacific Command’s Hawaii-Pacific Innovation Campus, a project intended to serve as a hub for testing cutting-edge military technologies.

Federal prosecutors say the alleged fraud struck at the heart of America’s defense procurement system.

According to the indictment unsealed this week in the District of Hawaii, these guys allegedly funneled approximately $1.25 million in bribes over five years to a U.S. Army employee while fraudulently jacking up government contracting costs to hide the payoffs.

No group has been more vocal, or more effective, in demanding Taubenberger’s removal than the White Coat Waste (WCW), the taxpayer watchdog organization famous for exposing Fauci’s beagle torture scandals and Wuhan lab funding.

WCW has been hammering Taubenberger’s appointment as a disastrous “vetting failure” since it was announced in late April of last year, just weeks after the Trump team began cleaning house at NIH.

WCW President Anthony Bellotti laid out the damning case in a powerful op-ed for American Greatness on May 1 titled “Fauci’s Lab Leak Henchmen Are Finally Facing Accountability.”

Bellotti detailed how Taubenberger, a longtime Fauci insider and intramural researcher at NIAID since 2006, was not just a passive holdover but an active participant in the COVID lab-leak cover-up machine.

Taubenberger, according to Belotti, co-led efforts with indicted Fauci aide David Morens to undermine Trump’s 2020 ban on gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Additionally, Taubenberger co-authored papers with Morens and Fauci that dismissed the lab-leak theory as “thoroughly discredited” and promoted the natural-origin narrative while protecting EcoHealth Alliance and its Chinese partners.

Emails obtained by WCW through FOIA requests showed Taubenberger was looped in on communications bragging that their work “defends Peter Daszak and his Chinese colleagues.”

WCW has repeatedly highlighted his “Beaglegate”-style experiments, including funding for maximum-pain beagle tests sourced from Ridglan Farms and other grotesque taxpayer-funded abuse.

Taubenberger also resurrected the 1918 Spanish flu virus from a dead body for gain-of-function-style work as emblematic of the reckless “science” he championed.

India’s power generation rose to a new all-time high amid hot weather that drove air-conditioning demand up, with thermal generation, most of its coming from coal power plants, covering 62% of demand.

Power demand on Thursday hit 271 GW, on the “fourth consecutive day when the peak power demand (solar hours) reached a new all-time high,” India’s power ministry said, as quoted by AFP.

After milder temperatures tempered demand growth in the fiscal year to March 2026 to the lowest level in six years, demand is now beating peak consumption records amid heat waves at the start of this year’s summer.

India’s coal demand from power plants is set to rise by 11.5% in the April to June quarter amid the peak electricity demand season in the country in May and June, sources with knowledge of the matter told the Economic Times in April.

Besides coal, which dominated India’s grid this week, solar power covered 22% of demand, the power ministry also said, while hydro and wind provided another 5% each. India has been putting a lot of effort into diversifying its sources of electricity to reduce its reliance on imported fuels and cut emissions, of which it is the third-largest generator in the world.

India expects to nearly quadruple its solar power capacity and triple wind power-generating assets within ten years, according to the new Generation Adequacy Plan published by the country’s Central Electricity Authority earlier this year.

Challenges, however, remain, mostly in transmission, reflecting the broader global picture, where grid upgrades lag behind wind and solar installations, prompting so-called curtailment, which in the first quarter of the year reached 300 GWh. The World Bank initiative attacks the oil and gas industry, one of Canada’s top economic drivers, and backs ‘efforts to address gender equality gaps in the energy and blue economy sectors.’

Canada’s federal government under Prime Minister Mark Carney has pledged to spend a whopping $180 million of taxpayer money on a woke World Bank climate initiative to end reliance on oil and gas and address “gender equality gaps.”

Listed on Canada’s federal government’s grants and contributions website, the money was given to the World Bank through what is known as the “World Bank Clean Energy and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Resilience Facility (CESR).”

Dated March 13, 2026, the agreement ended on March 31; however, it listed funds given totaling $180 million to the “IBRD Trust Funds — World Bank.”

The money comes from the Global Affairs Canada’s International Development Assistance program, which says it gives money to “reducing poverty for those living in countries where [the organization] engages in international development.”

However, one of the goals of the grants is, in essence, to attack one of Canada’s main economic drivers, its oil and gas industry, and with it the province of Alberta.

The grant notes a goal to “accelerate the shift away from fossil fuels” by focusing on so-called renewable energy. Worryingly, the grant also states as a goal to support “efforts to address gender equality gaps in the energy and blue economy sectors.”

The Department of War on Friday released a second batch of files related to Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP). The batch of files includes over 50 potentially UAP-related records requested by Congress, such as a UAP being shot down by a fighter jet over Lake Huron.

Chief Pentagon Spokesman Sean Parnell said in a statement, "Today, the Department of War is publishing the second release of declassified and historical Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) files as part of the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters (PURSUE). The collection continues to be housed onWAR.GOV/UFO, and additional files will be released on a rolling basis."

"Since the site’s launch on May 8, 2026, WAR.GOV/UFO has received over 1 billion hits worldwide, highlighting the unprecedented levels of interest in both this topic and the Trump administration’s historic transparency effort. The Department of War and our agency partners are actively working on the third release of UAP files, which will be announced in the near future."

The latest batch includes audio from an Apollo mission, reports of glowing orbs surrounding a military helicopter, and a UAP incidents across the Middle East.

In one video, titled "USAF ANG F-16C (callsign [CALLSIGN]) Shoots Down UAP over Lake Huron with [Weapon System], 12 Feb 2023," the Department of War said that the video "is likely derived from an infrared sensor aboard a U.S. military platform operating within the United States Northern Command area of responsibility in 2023. A user uploaded this video to a classified network in February 2023."

Tim Hortons is pushing back against the Dunkin' Donuts announcement it will be entering the Canadian market — by opening 80 new locations, but things may not be quite what they seem.

Tim Hortons is spending $400 million from both restaurant owners as well as the franchise itself — to build 80 new locations and renovate over 400 locations.

What's not mentioned is "how many locations have quietly closed in recent years," pointed out the Food Professor, or Sylvain Charlebois, who runs an agri-food lab at Dalhousie University, on X.

"Expansion numbers only tell part of the story."

In the last few years, as reported by Allegra World Coffee Portal, in 2022 Tim Hortons opened a whopping 300 locations internationally, while closing 50 domestic locations.

In 2023, the coffee chain increased its international footprint by 21% while closing eight stores in Canada between the 2022 to 2023 period.

That year it only opened eight new outlets in the US compared to its huge growth outside of North America — with 227 new stores outside of the continent.

The Globe and Mail reports in 2025 there were 54 openings in Canada and 37 location closings.

The news has gone viral online, with people reacting on X and questioning whether the franchise will hire Canadian workers — since it has made a reputation for mostly hiring temporary foreign workers in the past.

A Conservative MP for Calgary Nose Hill, Michelle Rempel Garner wrote on X reacting to the news with a meme questioning whether the franchise will be hiring Canadians.

Ontario will be getting the most new locations, with 26 new locations and 188 renovated.

Alberta will be receiving 18 new locations and 49 renovated ones, while BC will receive only eight new locations and 43 renovated locations.

Dunkin' Donuts plans to open locations in Canada late this year to early 2027.

Edmonton police say a nearly year-long partnership with “ethical hackers” who infiltrate online fraud operations helped identify victims of active scams and prevent more than $45 million in losses.

Between July 2025 and May 2026, the Edmonton Police Service worked with a network of ethical hackers—also known as “scam baiters”—who gathered information tied to ongoing fraud schemes and shared it with investigators, police said in a news release.

Edmonton police then worked with the U.S. Secret Service and Collin County Texas Sheriff’s Office to identify the victims and stop money transfers before the funds could reach the scammers.

“We were able to convince over 300 victims within Canada, the U.S., a few in the UK as well that they were being victimized and we were able to start shutting that scam down,” Virtual Investigations Section Cst. Brian Mason said at a press conference on May 22. “As of yesterday, it’s actually over $45 million that we’ve actually subverted in losses and that just continues to climb.”

In cases where police were unable to contact victims directly, they would sometimes engage banks and service providers to stop or freeze financial accounts before losses occurred, the release says.

“Contacting victims was often difficult because the information received was fragmented and incomplete,” Mason said. “Once contacted, convincing them they are being scammed wasn’t always easy and often involved the support of local police agencies and sometimes family members.” Continue…

An Ontario resident who recently returned from a trip to Ethiopia has tested negative for Ebola, Canada’s chief public health officer said.

The individual underwent “precautionary testing” after they reported symptoms consistent with a range of illnesses, Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Joss Reimer said in remarks on May 22.

Reimer said that initial testing in Ontario, which returned negative, was confirmed by the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg.

The risk to people in Canada remains low, based on a Public Health Agency of Canada rapid risk assessment, she added.

Reimer said that screening measures at the border have been strengthened since May 20.

These measures include additional screening questions at airport kiosks asking travellers whether they have visited the Democratic Republic of the Congo or Uganda within the past 21 days, whether they are experiencing symptoms, and whether they may have been in contact with someone with Ebola disease. China’s foreign affairs minister, Wang Yi, is set to visit Canada next week, marking the first bilateral visit to Canada by a Chinese foreign affairs minister since 2016.

Wang will meet with Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand in Ottawa on May 28 to “advance pragmatic engagement and the implementation of the updated Canada-China Strategic Partnership,” Global Affairs Canada (GAC) said in a May 22 news release.

GAC says the meeting will include discussions on trade and investment, global security, and “respective bilateral issues.”

Wang’s visit comes after Prime Minister Mark Carney visited China with Anand in January.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun announced the visit at a press conference in Beijing on May 22, saying the meeting comes at the invitation of Anand.

Generic versions of semaglutide, popularly known as Ozempic, will soon be available in Canadian pharmacies.

Canadian-based Apotex announced the launch of its generic version in mid-May. A statement from the company said that its initial inventory shipped to wholesalers and the “Apo-Semaglutide Injection will be on pharmacy shelves across Canada within the coming weeks.”

The company said it will give patients and healthcare providers access to “affordable alternatives” to the brand-name versions.

Canada became the first G7 country to approve a generic version of semaglutide on April 28, 2026, according to a statement from Health Canada. It authorized a second generic medication in early May and is reviewing seven other submissions for generic semaglutide by different companies. Continue…

Andie Bower, a farmer for Ferme Mont-Vulley Inc., allows wildlife to roam freely on his farm but worries this won’t be possible if a new high-speed rail line gets built.

“There will probably be quite a few different animals that would be displaced because of that tree line being knocked down and turned into a corridor,” said Bower.

The federal government announced in February 2025 that it would plan to develop a high-speed rail network, also known as Alto, connecting the Toronto-Quebec City corridor.

The $60- to $90-billion project could increase Canada’s annual GDP by 1.1 per cent, which translates to $24.5 billion per year, according to government projections.

Alto would also generate around 55,000 jobs and introduce a revenue of $800 million in tourism per year.

However, since its initial proposal, there has been pushback from local farmers, snowmobilers and MPs about its disruption to the intersections of wildlife and community.

Bower received three notices of the planned route, which suggests shaving a 30-metre strips of land on either side of his approximately 2,000-acre property. Continue…
