During her conversation with McCormack, she cites an example from her book about the collapse of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) and how it was eventually acquired by HSBC Bank through a series of strange events – and later caught laundering money for drug cartels. That went ignored by Mark Carney when he was the Governor of the Bank of England.

RCMP Federal Policing Pacific Region says officers have dismantled two clandestine drug labs in British Columbia, seizing massive quantities of fentanyl and MDMA along with firearms and cash following a months-long organized crime investigation.

Police said the operation targeted an active fentanyl lab in Chilliwack and a large-scale MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy, production and pill press operation in Abbotsford.

On April 30, RCMP officers executed a search warrant at a property in the 1800 block of Queen St. in Abbotsford, where investigators located the MDMA lab.

Additional warrants were executed the same day at residences in the 19000 block of 76 Avenue in Langley and the 1800 block of Gilmore Ave. in Burnaby.

Three men were arrested without incident during the operation and later released pending further investigation.

A fourth search warrant was carried out May 1 at a property in the 41000 block of Keith Wilson Rd. in Chilliwack, where police uncovered the fentanyl lab.

Investigators seized about 40 kilograms of finished fentanyl at the Chilliwack site.

Police also confiscated chemicals, drug-processing equipment, packaging materials, about 250 kilograms of MDMA, $135,000 in cash and 11 firearms.

RCMP released a photo showing bags of fentanyl and MDMA pills alongside several handguns seized during the raids.

“The seizure of these drugs and firearms represent a significant disruption to organized criminal activity, removing dangerous substances and weapons from circulation,” said RCMP Federal Policing Pacific Region media relations officer Cpl. James Bennett.

“This kind of investigation truly enhances public safety and improves community well-being.”

Bennett added investigators discovered one of the labs appeared to be expanding operations before police intervened.

“Our investigators also found that one of the labs appeared to be in the process of expanding,” he said.

“Those expansion plans are believed to have been disrupted by our investigation.”

Police said the investigation remains ongoing.

Toronto’s fire chief is alerting the public to the dangers of lithium-ion batteries after they triggered another fire in Ontario’s capital.

Fire Chief Jim Jessop said the batteries, used to power smartphones, laptops, e-bikes, and electric vehicles, were the cause of recent fires at the city’s Ashwarren Road recycling facility.

“The frequency and intensity of LIB fires continue to increase across our city, along with the risk to the public and firefighters,” Jessop said in an X post this week.

The lithium-ion batteries caught fire through a destructive chain reaction called thermal runaway, Jessop said. This phenomenon takes place when the battery creates heat quicker than it can disperse, causing a surge in temperature that ignites the flammable electrolyte present within it.

Both Jessop and Toronto Fire Services posted photos of the three-alarm blaze on the afternoon of May 21. Neither post provided details on the circumstances of the fire, but the department confirmed no one was injured.

The chief’s warning comes just three months after he issued a similar message this winter in the wake of three lithium-ion battery related fires when his crews responded to three calls in a span of 24 hours. Continue…

Vehicle thieves are increasingly using distraction tactics and high-tech devices to intercept key fob signals, according to the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA).

Police across Canada have received reports of thieves distracting drivers to keep them near their vehicles in parking lots, shopping centres, and other busy areas, CAA South Central Ontario said in a press release. At the same time, they also use electronic devices to capture or amplify key fob signals.

“As a result, key fob-related auto theft is no longer limited to driveways or overnight incidents,” CAA said.

In a relay attack, thieves amplify the signal from a nearby key fob so the vehicle detects the key as present, allowing the thieves to unlock and sometimes start the car, according to the association. In more advanced thefts, criminals may use electronic tools inside the vehicle to reprogram or clone a new key fob for future access. Continue…

Dong Guangping, a Chinese human rights advocate who has repeatedly tried to flee China, has been detained by the Korean Coast Guard after he was found in a rubber boat off the country’s west coast, once again fleeing China as he seeks to reunite with his family in Canada.

A Chinese national was spotted on an inflatable boat about 70 kilometres off the west coast of South Korea late on May 25 after a fishing vessel crew alerted authorities, the coast guard said in a statement.

Sheng Xue, a prominent Chinese-Canadian author and democracy activist based in the Toronto area, identified the Chinese dissident as Dong Guangping in a series of social media posts. She said she spoke with Dong by phone on the night of May 25 after he was detained, and noted a friend of hers in Korea had located Dong and called the coast guard.

“Dong Guangping is just too resilient, too brave,” Sheng said in a May 26 post on X. “He had discussed with me before about escaping by boat, and I thought it was way too dangerous!! But he actually went ahead and did it.”

She said Dong set off from Weihai in China’s Shandong Province and travelled for more than 30 hours before he was spotted approximately 18 kilometres northwest of Taean County, South Korea. She said Dong told her when he reached Korean waters he felt he was basically “already in a coma” as he had not slept for more than 50 hours.

“The Coast Guard immediately dispatched patrol vessels on an emergency basis, arriving at the scene about an hour later and taking Dong Guangping into custody,” Sheng said. Continue…

The gas will be shipped from the proposed Ksi Lisims export facility north of Prince Rupert.

“This contract represents the first agreement that we see long-term, low-carbon LNG from Canada being shipped to our allies in Europe,” he said. “We’re in a world where our allies are begging us to produce our resources.”

The Ksi Lisims LNG project is an indigenous-led development in partnership with the Nisga'a Nation, Houston-based Western LNG and Calgary-based Rockies LNG Partners.

It will operate on hydroelectric power from B.C.’s grid, resulting in emissions levels “approximately 94 percent below the current global average once fully electrified,” according to Hodgson. He said it will move Canada closer to its goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Canadian Think Tank Warns G7 Countries Face ‘Systemic’ Interference by Beijing, Calls for Coordinated Response

A Montreal-based security think tank is warning that Beijing’s foreign interference operations are deeply embedded across all G7 democracies through tactics that are adaptive, long-term, and difficult to detect.

The Montreal Institute for Global Security (MIGS) released a new report on May 27, titled, “Guarding the G7: Countering Beijing’s Interference Operations,” and presented its findings at a press conference on Parliament Hill the same day.

MIGS researchers say the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) United Front Work Department operates across Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan, and are urging these countries to take stronger action to “protect our democracies from Chinese foreign interference and influence.”

“We have seen across all G7 democracies systemic work by the Chinese government and the United Fronts Department to infiltrate, to influence public opinion, to engage in transnational repression,” MIGS executive director and co-author of the report Kyle Matthews told reporters.

China’s United Front Work Department is a CCP agency involved in influence-building abroad, aimed at advancing the party’s political agenda and shaping perceptions internationally. U.S. think tank The Jamestown Foundation said in a Feb. 11 report that the CCP has established a global network of more than 2,000 organizations linked to its United Front system, including at least 575 such groups in Canada.

The new MIGS report says that foreign interference linked to the CCP’s United Front system across G7 countries is “not episodic or isolated,“ but rather, ”systemic, adaptive, and embedded within the normal functioning of open societies.” Continue…

Former Senior CIA Officer With Top-Secret Clearance ARRESTED After FBI Raid Home And Seize 300 Gold Bars Worth $40 Million — Plus $2 Million Cash And 35 Luxury Watches

A former senior CIA officer with top-secret security clearance has been arrested after federal agents raided his Virginia home and seized roughly 300 gold bars worth more than $40 million, along with approximately $2 million in cash and 35 luxury watches, mostly Rolexes.

The officer, identified as David Rush, who held a management position at the agency, now faces charges of criminal theft of public money.

According to NBC News, Rush allegedly used his position to request large amounts of gold and foreign currency, claiming they were for “work-related expenses,” only to allegedly divert and stash them at his Fairfax County residence.

On May 18, federal agents searched the home and walked out with the massive gold hoard. Investigators had earlier found only a portion of the funds in a storage space near his office.

Rush had requested the assets between November and March, according to an FBI affidavit.

The CIA’s own internal audit couldn’t account for the gold or significant foreign currency, prompting CIA Director John Ratcliffe to refer the matter to the FBI for criminal investigation.
