Sinaloa Senator Enrique Inzunza Cazárez, a high-ranking member of Mexico’s ruling socialist Morena party, has been ARRESTED in San Diego after turning himself in to U.S. federal authorities.

The cartel-connected politician, 53, was taken into custody by the Drug Enforcement Administration on charges of narcotics importation conspiracy, possession of machine guns and destructive devices, and conspiracy to possess the same, according to multiple Mexican news outlets and U.S. court documents.

Inzunza Cazárez was one of 10 current and former Sinaloa officials hit with a massive federal indictment unsealed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York back on April 29.

US prosecutors allege the defendants conspired with the Sinaloa cartel to import narcotics into the United States in exchange for political support and bribes.

“The Sinaloa Cartel is a ruthless criminal organization that has flooded this community with dangerous drugs for decades,” said U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton.

“As the indictment lays bare, the Sinaloa Cartel, and other drug trafficking organizations like it, would not operate as freely or successfully without corrupt politicians and law enforcement officials on their payroll. The support of corrupt foreign officials for deadly trafficking of drugs must end. Let these charges send a clear message to all officials around the globe who work with narco-traffickers: no matter your title or position, we are committed to bringing you to justice.”

Kremlin officials specifically described the new assault as indeed direct retaliation for "terrorist attacks" carried out by Kiev, which killed at least three in the Russian capital, injured dozens, hit a refinery, and unleashed havoc and fear among the population. The MoD said it targeted military and defense industrial sites, but Ukraine's account differed.

Ukrainian forces had deployed at least 130 UAVs during the capital-bound raid, and damaged a major regional airport. Large fires were spotted near major roadways, sometimes in the heart of busy city areas.

Feds spend $13 million on African businesses to promote 'gender equality' and 'climate action'

The feds have committed a whopping $13 million to be spent on warehousing facilities in Africa — without most taxpayers even knowing.

The spending was announced in March by Global Affairs Canada, and will continue to be given in increments until 2033.

The money is given to the 2X Ignite Africa Warehousing Facility program, a global initiative that "unlocks capital for first-time women-led and gender-balanced fund managers" in Africa by providing loans to warehouses.

The money would be given to the initiative, based in Luxembourg, which would then disperse the loans.

As the feds state, the projects hopes to promote "economic stability and resilience across African markets by expanding women’s access to capital and strengthening women’s leadership in investment."

Loans will be given to women in either the South or North Sahara for their small to medium-sized businesses.

The loans, the feds claim, will help strengthen "gender equality and climate considerations" in the region.

The expected results the feds later state clearly, include "reducing gender inequality and promoting climate action."

To be eligible for the loans 2X Ignite explains the business must be at least 50% owned by women, and 50% of four different levels of the business's team must also be female.

They must also be implementing a "broader impact strategy," which according to what the feds have stated, includes climate considerations.

Conservative MP Michael Chong is visiting Taiwan and meeting with President Lai Ching-te this week in defiance of a recent warning from the Chinese ambassador to Canada against sending parliamentarians to Taiwan.

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) views self-ruled Taiwan as a breakaway province, despite never having governed the island nation, and seeks to place it under Beijing’s rule. Taiwan, meanwhile, is pushing back against Beijing’s international pressure campaign to sideline the island.

Chong, who is the Conservative Party’s foreign affairs critic, is visiting Taiwan from May 18 to May 21 and is set to meet with Lai, Taiwanese minister and trade representative Jen-Ni Yang, and deputy minister of foreign affairs Chen Ming-chi. He is also expected to meet with officials at the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei.

Washington is pausing its participation in the Canada-U.S. Permanent Joint Board on Defense, saying Ottawa has failed to live up to its defence commitments.

“A strong Canada that prioritizes hard power over rhetoric benefits us all. Unfortunately, Canada has failed to make credible progress on its defense commitments,” U.S. Under Secretary of War Elbridge Colby said on social media on May 18, while announcing that his department is pausing the board “to reassess how this forum benefits shared North American defense.”

The board, formed in 1940, consists of both military and civilian representatives from the two countries, and is meant to serve as a forum for strategic discussions related to defence cooperation. During the board’s 2024 meeting in Ottawa, the two countries discussed issues related to NORAD modernization, Arctic security, and defence cooperation in other areas of the world including the Indo-Pacific.

In his announcement, Colby included a link to a speech Prime Minister Mark Carney delivered at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Jan. 20, in which he asked middle powers to band together, and criticized the United States.

“We can no longer avoid the gaps between rhetoric and reality. Real powers must sustain our rhetoric with shared defense and security responsibilities,” Colby said as he shared the link.
