Um Marshall lost that game despite the gambit. If we are to win we should view it from Capablanca's side.

D5 would mean that the other side has sacrificed a pawn (who would this be?) in hopes of derailing us but the gambit was recognized for what it was and now it's full-on attack to exploit the gambit weakness.
