Santería is not considered a Christian religion. It is a distinct, syncretic religion developed in Cuba by enslaved West African Yoruba people who blended their traditional beliefs with Roman Catholicism to survive persecution. While it incorporates Catholic imagery and saints, its core theology revolves around the worship of spirits (orishas) rather than Jesus Christ as the sole mediator.
