The Fed Will Invent New Inflation Numbers Out Of Thin Air

The Federal Reserve is rapidly approaching the point where every available option becomes politically toxic, economically destructive, or both.

Inflation remains stuck around 3.8% CPI, well above the Fed’s stated 2% target, and that number alone should theoretically eliminate any serious discussion of aggressive easing. Treasury yields are rising as bond investors demand compensation for persistent inflation, uncontrolled fiscal deficits, and the growing realization that Washington’s debt load is becoming increasingly unstable.

The American consumer, meanwhile, is clearly running on fumes. Credit card balances continue hitting records, delinquency rates are rising, savings buffers have been depleted, and wage growth is failing to keep pace with the real cost of living for millions of households. Yet despite all of this stress beneath the surface, equity markets continue trading as if rate cuts are inevitable, growth will remain strong, and the Fed will once again rescue investors the moment volatility appears.

It is a fantasy built on the assumption that policymakers can indefinitely suspend economic consequences.

As I’ve been writing about, the Fed’s dilemma is now impossible to ignore. Raising rates further would intensify pressure on households, corporations, regional banks, commercial real estate, and most importantly the federal government itself, which now faces massive refinancing needs at dramatically higher borrowing costs. Holding rates steady risks allowing weakness to spread until something in credit markets eventually breaks.

Cutting rates, however, presents its own disaster scenario because inflation remains far too elevated to justify meaningful monetary easing. The Fed spent years insisting inflation was transitory before being forced into the most aggressive tightening cycle in decades. Repeating that mistake while inflation remains nearly double target would destroy what little credibility remains. And yet that may not stop them if markets begin unraveling. Massive Mushroom Cloud 'Test' Blast Rattles Uninformed Residents Outside Jerusalem

Late Saturday night, a massive explosion and a bright fireball illuminated the skies over Israel's Beit Shemesh, deeply rattling local residents and setting off rampant speculation in local media and online commentary.

The area lies just 19 miles west of Jerusalem, close enough to be located within Jerusalem District. Curiously, the state-owned Tomer rocket propulsion defense ministry-linked firm subsequently sought clarify that the blast was actually a controlled, pre-planned test and that authorities were notified in advance.

However, community members have complained about receiving absolutely no warning, and were shocked at the immensity of the blast which lit up the night sky, visible for many miles.

Tensions were already running high in the city which had been struck multiple times by Iranian missiles during the recent war. The sudden detonation fueled widespread anxiety and anger among residents already on edge, bracing for the potential renew of the Iran war and thus Iranian ballistic missile attacks.

Times of Israel has cited Channel 12, saying that "the test involved propellants for rockets, including those with a range of thousands of kilometers."

The same report interestingly called it "apocalyptic" in appearance but suggested this was misleading:

On Sunday, Kan reported that in the wake of the panic caused by the blast, a meeting was held at Tomer during which it was decided, in coordination with the Defense Ministry, to warn the public ahead of similar tests.

Tomer sources told the broadcaster that due to operational needs, the company is conducting testing at all hours, including during the night.

According to Kan, the company recently hired dozens of new employees, and the test was scheduled at night due to production constraints. Sources said it was carried out five kilometers from any population areas and that weather conditions had made the blast appear more "apocalyptic" than it actually was.

But it was significant enough to result in the convening of Israeli emergency management and defense officials, who subsequently told the public an investigation would ensue. The Defense Ministry said in the aftermath that "the issue of advance warning to the public will be examined with the company."

Attack Drone Hits Near UAE Nuclear Power Plant

Abu Dhabi authorities report that a kamikaze drone struck an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Al Dhafra. Officials said there were no injuries, no impact on radiological safety levels, and no disruption to plant operations.

Dubai-based newspaper Gulf News cited the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation, which said the one-way drone attack on the Arab world's first commercial nuclear facility did not affect the safety of the nuclear power plant or the readiness of its essential systems. FANR added that all systems were operating normally as of late Sunday.

Barakah operates four APR-1400 reactors with a combined capacity of 5.6 gigawatts, generating about 40 terawatt-hours annually, or about 25% of the UAE's electricity. Any successful attack on Barakah would cripple the UAE's power grid.

The incident comes as the broader U.S.-Iran truce remains fragile, with President Trump recently describing the ceasefire as being on "life support."

Trump told reporters on Friday that Iran's latest proposal was "unacceptable" and blamed the Iranians for backtracking on the nuclear issue.

Israeli extremist filmed attacking Palestinian farmer (VIDEO)

Violence is rising in the occupied territory, according to the territory’s government

Footage has been published online purporting to show an assault by an Israeli settler against a Palestinian farmer in the occupied West Bank, in one of the latest alleged attacks targeting Palestinian civilians.

The video, posted by the media office of the Palestinian government on Saturday, shows a blindfolded man on his knees in a field, and later lying on the ground surrounded by armed men. An accompanying caption alleges the farmer was “abducted and restrained” by the settler.

The footage emerged amid a surge in violence across the West Bank, where settlers have carried out repeated raids on Palestinian communities, torching homes and vehicles, vandalizing property, and assaulting residents, according to witnesses.

In a separate post on Sunday, the Palestinian government shared images of what it described as the aftermath of an attack by “extremist Israeli settlers” in the town of Surif, where several vehicles were torched.

‘Unprecedented Threat’ – An Underwater Bomb Found at an Alabama Dam

An improvised explosive device (IED) was discovered at a critical water supply dam in Mobile, Alabama, raising concerns about infrastructure security.

Divers discovered a “grenade-type IED” at the base of the Converse Reservoir dam in Mobile, Alabama, during a routine maintenance inspection. The dam holds the drinking water supply for the entire city.

The explosive device was safely detonated off-site by federal and local bomb squads, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Mobile Police Department. Officials believe the device was intentionally placed at the dam, which is part of critical infrastructure designated by the federal government. Surveillance cameras monitor the dam, but no suspect has been identified yet.

“This is an unprecedented threat, and we are fortunate that this device was discovered before it could cause serious damage to our water supply or harm to individuals,” said Bud McCrory, director of Mobile Area Water and Sewer System.

President Donald Trump doubled down on his claim that the financial pain of Americans is not a consideration when seeking to deny Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, calling his previous admission to that effect “a perfect statement.”

Trump initially told Daily Caller White House Correspondent Reagan Reese that the financial situations of Americans were “not even a little bit” of a factor when pressuring to Iran to resolve the ongoing conflict with a diplomatic solution. The comments came as Americans are feeling the pain of the war’s economic effects, such as higher gas and food prices. Trump defended the remarks he made during a Friday interview with Fox News’s Bret Baier.

“You can imagine how many people stop the sound bite at, ‘I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation,’ so what’s your response to that framework?” Baier asked.

“That’s right, that’s a perfect statement,” Trump said. “I would make it again.” The president then added his view that preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon outweighs the short-term economic impacts.

“It’s very simple: when people hear me say it, everybody agrees,” Trump continued. “Short-term pain. It’s gonna be short-term pain.”

Gas prices have skyrocketed roughly 50% since the start of the war with Iran, with the national average at the time of writing hovering around $4.52 per gallon.

The economic pressure has been tied to freedom of navigation at the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil chokepoint through which 34% of the world’s crude oil passes, according to the International Energy Agency.

The White House pointed the Daily Caller News Foundation to a previous statement from White House Communications Director Steven Cheung defending Trump’s remarks.

“The President’s ultimate responsibility is the safety and security of Americans,” Cheung stated Tuesday. “Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon, and if action wasn’t taken, they’d have one, which threatens all Americans.”

Trump Threatens To Primary GOP Rep For Supporting ‘Worst Republican Congressman’

President Donald Trump turned on Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert Saturday, threatening to back a primary challenger after she campaigned for Rep. Thomas Massie in Kentucky.

Trump aired his frustration on Truth Social, calling Boebert “Weak Minded” and labeling her a “Carpetbagger” for relocating to Colorado’s 4th Congressional District. “Boebert is campaigning for the Worst ‘Republican’ Congressman in the History of our Country, Thomas Massie, of the Great Commonwealth of Kentucky, and anybody who can be that dumb deserves a good Primary fight!” he wrote, adding that he would consider it an “Honor” to pull his backing if a viable alternative stepped up.

Boebert had appeared alongside Massie at campaign stops in Shelby and Oldham counties ahead of the May 19 Kentucky primary, where Massie faces Trump-endorsed retired Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein, according to the Washington Examiner.

The Colorado congresswoman brushed off the rebuke on X. “Yes, I saw the President’s post. No I’m not mad or offended,” she wrote. “I knew the risks when I agreed to stand by my friend Thomas Massie. I was, and will be, America First, America Always, and MAGA.”

Massie told Fox News the threat carried no real weight because Colorado’s filing window had already closed. “I think he should be mending fences with these folks, not trying to burn bridges,” he said.

Trump’s feud with Massie has simmered for months, the Examiner reported. The Kentucky lawmaker voted against the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, opposed the Iran strikes, and pushed to release federal records tied to Jeffrey Epstein.

Boebert herself signed onto the Massie-led discharge petition forcing the Justice Department to hand over the Epstein files, per The Hill, joining only three other Republicans. Boebert is running unopposed in the June 30 GOP primary, with Cook Political Report rating her seat solidly Republican, The Hill noted.

Around 10 New Suspected Epstein Victims Identified in French Investigation

Around 10 “new” suspected victims have come forward in a French probe into the network of late US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a prosecutor said Sunday.

France opened a human trafficking investigation after the US Justice Department in January released the latest cache of files from the investigation into the disgraced financier, who died in prison in 2019 while facing charges of trafficking underage girls for sex.

French magistrates are seeking to investigate possible offences committed in France or involving French perpetrators who facilitated his crimes.

Top Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau said around 20 suspected victims had made themselves known after she in February urged potential victims to speak up.

Some were already known to investigators, she told the RTL broadcaster.

“But we also had new victims come forward, ones we didn’t know at all. There are around 10 of them,” she added.

“The choice we’ve made for the time being is to listen to these victims,” she said.

“A certain number of them are abroad so the investigators have tried to set up meetings to suit when they are able to come to Paris.”

Investigators were also scouring through the so-called Epstein files, and would be searching them for any names mentioned by alleged victims, she said.

“We have also once again pulled out Mr Epstein’s computers, his telephone records, his address books,” she said, adding her team would be “making requests for international assistance”.

Israel has been expanding the territory it controls in the Gaza Strip during the ceasefire, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged Sunday, pushing past the lines that were agreed upon in the US-brokered ceasefire that took effect last October.

At the start of the truce, the Israel Defense Forces controlled around 53 percent of the war-torn Palestinian enclave, with Hamas controlling the other 47%, in which nearly all of the Strip’s two million residents live. The army established the “Yellow Line,” demarcating the part of Gaza occupied by Israeli troops, and has been regularly firing at those who approach the line and are deemed a threat.

“In Gaza now, we already control not 50%, but 60%,” Netanyahu said at the weekly cabinet meeting in Jerusalem, confirming reports that Israel has taken more territory despite the ceasefire still being in effect.

Maps issued quietly by Israel in March showed a new restricted area beyond the 53%. The area, marked on the maps with an orange line, makes up an estimated 11% of Gaza’s territory beyond the Yellow Line. The areas cordon off nearly two-thirds of Gaza’s territory in total.

The military sent the maps to aid groups in Gaza in mid-March, saying the area between the orange line and the yellow line is a restricted zone to enable aid delivery, and that aid groups must coordinate their movements with the military. It says civilians are not affected.

The expanded zone has stirred fears from displaced Palestinians living there that they could be deemed targets by Israel. It has also stoked concerns that Israel may plan to hold the area permanently.

IDF warns of severe personnel shortages, last window to solve crisis with legislation

Military says still missing 12,000 troops, with gap to widen further in coming year, government’s draft bill won’t provide adequate solution

The Israel Defense Forces on Sunday warned of a steadily worsening shortage of combat soldiers in the standing military, high burnout among troops, and fears that the reserve army could “collapse” if necessary legislation is not advanced by the government.

According to the IDF, a bill being advanced by the government that would ostensibly increase military conscription in the Haredi community, but ultimately enshrine blanket exemptions from military service, will not provide an adequate solution to the military’s personnel needs in the short term.

The coalition’s draft exemption bill is widely seen as legally iffy and loophole-laden and has generated intense resistance even among members of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition. The government has been working on advancing it despite repeated warnings from the IDF that it needs more troops.

If the bill is passed, and even if all its recruitment targets are met, only several hundred additional Haredi combat soldiers are expected to enlist per year, which the military has said would not answer its current needs.

The military has repeatedly warned that it is currently short some 12,000 standing army soldiers, a gap that it said would only expand due to the shortening of mandatory service at the start of 2027, unless the government passes legislation addressing the personnel shortages.

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir has several times urged the government to again extend mandatory military service for men to 36 months, after it was shortened to 30 months in August 2024. The government has so far refused to approve this move.

The first cohort enlisted under this shorter service period will be discharged in January 2027, further exacerbating manpower issues unless the existing law is changed.

The IDF has repeatedly said it urgently needs 12,000 recruits — including 7,000 combat troops — due to the strain on standing and reserve forces caused by the yearslong multi-front war.

“The security need is huge and urgent, and the burnout [among soldiers] is far greater than we thought,” a senior officer told reporters on Sunday.

The military warned that if the shortened service period takes effect as planned in January 2027, the gap will grow by thousands more combat soldiers and service members in non-combat roles.

In addition to extending the mandatory service and a “relevant conscription law,” the military is also seeking a law changing how reservists are called up and for how long, given that currently the IDF relies on emergency call-up orders with various limitations.

Reservists are now serving dozens more days in reserve duty beyond the IDF’s original planning. Initially, the military sought to call up reservists for 55 days of duty in 2026. However, due to the war in Iran, many reservists have now served 80 to 100 days.

“If we do not do something now through legislation, the situation will worsen and disrupt the entire system,” the senior officer said.

Three people were killed Sunday in an Israeli drone attack on a food distribution center in Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip, health officials said.

Earlier, the Gaza Health Ministry said that six people were killed and 19 were wounded in attacks by the Israel Defense Forces in the past day.

One of the attacks targeted a Hamas police checkpoint in Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian reports.

Since the 2025 Israel-Hamas cease-fire, the death toll in Gaza has risen to 871. The total death toll in Gaza since the October 7 massacre is 72,763, according to the Health Ministry.

Meanwhile, Palestinian media reported that IDF tanks and bulldozers moved the Yellow Line earlier Sunday.

The Yellow Line separates the part of Gaza that is controlled by Hamas from the IDF-controlled "buffer zone." The color denotes the yellow concrete blocks used to mark the boundary on the ground.

According to the reports, the line was moved at two points in the southern Gaza Strip, at the Bani Suheila area and in the Abu Sha'ab neighborhood.
