IDF issues evacuation warning for village near Beirut
IDF Arabic Spokesperson Col. (res.) Avichay Adraee issued an urgent warning to residents of Burj Al-Shamali, a village south of Beirut, on Monday, telling them to evacuate their homes immediately.
The IDF is "compelled to act" in light of Hezbollah's ceasefire violations, Adraee said on X/Twitter.

EU renews restrictions on people involved in former Syria administration under Assad
The European Union has decided to renew restrictions on individuals and entities linked to the former Syrian administration run by Bashar al-Assad, who was toppled in December 2024.
"The EU considers that networks linked to the former al-Assad regime continue to retain influence and pose a risk of undermining the transition process and hindering efforts towards national reconciliation and accountability," said a statement from the Council of the European Union on Monday.
Those designated are subject to an asset freeze, and EU citizens and companies are prohibited from making funds available to them. Individuals are additionally subject to a travel ban, which prevents them from entering or transiting through EU member states," it added.
The EU has, at the same time, increased ties with the new Syrian government, led by President Ahmed al‑Sharaa, which replaced Assad's administration.

A resident of the Tene locality, where the strikes took place, told the AFP news agency that “10 of our children” were killed. “What was supposed to be a moment of joy in the village turned into immense sorrow,” he said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
“The tragedy occurred as the villagers were preparing the second edition of this traditional collective wedding, a major cultural event for this community,” a security source who requested anonymity for safety reasons told AFP.
The strikes targeted “a procession of motorbikes following one another”, he added. “That is certainly what drew the attention of the drones.”
A local official also confirmed to AFP that about 10 people had been killed. “A wedding was about to take place when the drones killed at least 10 civilians. It is truly a time of mourning,” he told AFP.
Mali has been in a critical security situation since JNIM teamed up with rebels in the FLA in April. A deadly offensive on April 25 and 26 targeted strategic towns and killed the country’s influential defence minister.
Al Jazeera’s Nicolas Haque, who has reported extensively from Mali, had said, according to military sources, “the fighters involved in this coordinated attack are targeting military armed compounds”, adding that “there is an unprecedented level of panic” in the military ranks.
Alex Vines, Africa director at the European Council on Foreign Relations, told Al Jazeera that Malian authorities appear to have been caught off guard by the latest wave of attacks.
Kidal and other towns and villages in the north have been captured and are now controlled by the FLA and JNIM, who have since imposed a blockade on the capital, Bamako.
Another wave of attacks by al-Qaeda-affiliated fighters was also reported on May 7, killing at least 30 people in central Mali. The villages of Korikori and Gomossogou in the Mopti region were targeted.
Mali, which is rich in gold and other valuable minerals, has been dealing with unrest since 2012. It has faced a deepening security crisis driven by the FLA , JNIM and the Africa Corps, a Russian government-controlled paramilitary that replaced the private Wagner Group.
Haque told Al Jazeera he learned from witnesses that Russian mercenaries were “fighting in Bamako, around the airport, where they have one of their headquarters”.
Mali’s former colonial ruler, France, and the United Nations had deployed soldiers and peacekeepers to the country to try to control the violence by armed groups, but Bamako expelled their forces after military coups in 2020 and 2021 and is now using Russian fighters instead.

President Donald Trump shared a bizarre image Sunday that depicts himself walking alongside an alien figure – and without explanation or additional context – sparking widespread speculation Monday that the president may be hinting at something to come.
“Something is coming because this level [of] trolling and distraction is off the hook,” wrote journalist Ann Vandersteel, a popular figure within conservative and pro-Trump circles.
Earlier this month, the Trump administration released its first batch of previously classified files on unidentified flying objects (UFOs), with more expected to be released next month.
And on Sunday, Trump only added to the UFO fervor by posting the aforementioned image, which appears to have been created using generative artificial intelligence and shows Trump walking beside a chained, grey humanoid alien-like figure with large eyes.
“A picture is worth a thousand words,” wrote author and political scientist Michael Salla in a social media post on X to his more than 100,000 followers, reacting to the image Trump shared.
“President Trump is here signaling that physical contact with extraterrestrials has happened at the highest level of government. He is preparing the public for the UFO releases that are coming.”
Others, like author and technology investor Edward Dowd, mostly shrugged at Trump’s social media post.
“Unless the aliens can reduce the price of gasoline the average American couldn’t [give a f—] about this,” Dowd wrote in a social media post on X to his more than 400,000 followers.
Media personality Luke Rudkowski also dismissed Trump’s social media post, and wrote to his more than 600,000 followers on X that there was another set of files far more interesting to him than the federal government’s collection of UFO data.

Man charged after calling 911 to report zombies, ghosts, and a UFO

ELKINS, W.Va. (WBOY) — A Randolph County man has been charged after calling 911 to report ghosts, a UFO, and zombies at his residence while also falsely claiming to be a police officer.
According to a press release by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on May 17, law enforcement responded to Chick Drive in the Kerens area of Randolph County after 911 received multiple calls from Clinton Nelan, who was reporting seeing ghosts, zombies and a UFO.
He also claimed he was being harassed by multiple individuals and that he was a police officer from Louisiana. An investigation found that Nelan was not a police officer and that he was misusing 911 to make false reports.
Nelan was arrested for misuse of a local emergency telephone system and impersonating law enforcement. He is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a cash only $2,500 bond.

There's been a lot of air traffic lately, fighting wildfires across Northern Minnesota.
We've seen helicopters and planes scooping up water from lakes to put out the fires, on top of all the normal air traffic we see. So, it's been a busy time in the sky.
Unidentified Object Spotted May 15th, 2026, Central St. Louis County
Friday night, on May 15th, 2026, at 8:36 PM, something strange caught my eye. The wind had finally died down, and we went out on the lake for a ride on the pontoon.
The sun was starting to set, and it lit up a white object high up in the air. At first, I thought it was a commercial airliner, but it didn't have any contrails behind it, like they normally do. It appeared to be too high to be a small plane.
I took several photos zoomed in to try to figure out what it was. My best guess is that it's some sort of large government drone. It was way too high to be a hobby drone.
It moved slowly from west to east. After I took the photos, I looked down at my phone to zoom in. A minute later, when I looked up again, it was gone.
No Flight Data On Flight Tracker
I looked up flight data from Flightradar24 to see if a plane or something could be identified. The only plane showing up for that entire hour was a small Cessna plane flying North about 20 minutes before we saw this object. Nothing else was recorded.
Maybe it was a drone being used to spot wildfires? You would think that something that high in the air would need a transponder, but as I said, it wasn't on any of the flight data.

The pastors say the people in the room proposed that many of the strange objects seen over the decades might not be extraterrestrial visitors in the sci‑fi sense, but 'interdimensional beings.'
From that point, the discussion, as the pastors tell it, moved from the world of defence briefings into theology.
Zupetz claims that a growing number of Christians now view these alleged entities as 'interdimensional evil spirits, fallen angels or demons,' not visitors from a distant star system.
In his telling, they are not neutral curiosities, nor benevolent guides, but part of a darker spiritual picture.
