Senate GOP confirms 49 Trump nominees in one swoop after changing filibuster rules
From Fox News: Senate Republicans moved one step closer to clearing out the backlog of President Donald Trump’s nominees.
The GOP confirmed 49 of Trump’s picks on Monday, a move that will have installed 60% of his civilian nominees. It’s also the fourth time Republicans have confirmed a slate of nominees in a batch since changing the Senate’s rules last year.
Included in the latest batch are 20 different positions, including a dozen U.S. attorneys, several U.S. marshals, ambassadors and members of a variety of agencies, including the departments of War, Transportation, Energy, and others.
Also included in the group is Trump’s pick to lead the Bureau of Land Management and a former member of Congress, Stevan Pearce.
46-43: Senate along party lines confirmed 49 of President Trump’s nominees en bloc, including 3 former GOP Congressmen to new posts in the 2nd Trump Administration:
Former Rep./IRS Commissioner Billy Long (R-MO) to be U.S. Amb. to Iceland
Former Rep. Steve Pearce (R-NM) to head BLM
Former Rep./WH Deputy Budget Director Dan Bishop (R-NC) to serve as U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of NC.
The Senate also confirmed:
Brian Birdwell (Sustainment) and Mark Ditlevson (Homeland Defense and Americas Security Affairs) to be Assistant Secretaries of Defense
Matthew Anderson to Deputy NASA Administrator.
