All the election chatter today brought a thought to mind. I usually vote in person on election day (coming up here in CA) despite this state being vote by mail. Over time this has resulted in some interesting conversations with poll workers. But one of the things they consistently do is push you to use the "I voted" sticker. I don't know if these are common in other states. All the chatter today brought this to mind and I wonder why they push this so hard? My first instinct is that it is performative to indicate your membership in the tribe. Which is doomed to failure as it is a manufactured membership. I just wonder if there is some other reason they do it. Okay yes this may well be my over developed sense of paranoia/conspiracy freak showing through, but still…
Except they don't want you to show up in a vote by mail state.
