Russia-China strategic partnership turns 30: How former rivals became close friends

19 May, 2026 12:16 | Updated 20 May, 2026 13:41

Russian President Vladimir Putin has embarked on an official visit to China this week – the latest milestone in a relationship that Moscow and Beijing have described as a “no-limits partnership.”

Putin’s trip comes as the two countries celebrate the 30th anniversary of the China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination, and the 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation.

Here is how three decades of pragmatism, Western pressure, and mutual economic need allowed China and Russia to build one of the world’s most consequential partnerships outside of the traditional Western-dominated international system.

Soviet chapter: From comrades to combatants

The relationship between the Soviet Union and Communist China kicked off in the late 1940s and early 1950s as a bond of ideological brotherhood.

The Soviet Union acted as China’s ‘elder brother,’ helping the country to recover from devastating consequences of World War II and Civil War, with Soviet technicians pouring into the mostly rural country, helping build factories, railways, and the rudiments of an industrial base.

However, relations frayed in the mid-1950s after Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev parted with the policies of Joseph Stalin – a close ideological ally of hardline Chinese leader Mao Zedong.

In particular, Khrushchev denounced Stalin’s mass purges and cult of personality while gradually pivoting towards a policy of co-existence with the West.

Beijing subsequently accused Moscow of “revisionism” – an apostasy from orthodox Marxism-Leninism, with the two countries descending into open rivalry.

The stand-off culminated in 1969 as the two nuclear powers engaged in an undeclared war over the border island of Damansky (known as Zhenbao in China) on the Ussuri river.

The Long Thaw

Ties started to normalize in the mid-1980s as reformers Mikhail Gorbachev and Deng Xiaoping ascended to power in their respective countries.

Moscow and Beijing held a series of grinding talks on mitigating border disputes, with relations improving due to the Soviet decision to start pulling troops from Afghanistan and end support for Vietnam’s presence in Cambodia.

The new era of rapprochement began during Gorbachev’s trip to Beijing in 1989 – the first visit by a Soviet leader in 30 years.

Partnership takes shape

The Soviet Union’s collapse in 1991 did not derail an upward trend in relations, with China swiftly recognizing nascent Russia. The tendency was supported by both countries needing one another:

China wanted shipments of sophisticated Soviet-designed weaponry and access to Russia’s vast resources, while Moscow – which was undergoing a painful transition to a market economy – needed cash.

In April 1996, Russia and China moved towards the “strategic partnership of equality and trust oriented towards the 21st century.”

In a joint declaration one year later, both countries articulated the concept of a “multipolar world,” which was widely seen as a counterweight to US hegemony on world stage.

At around the same time, Moscow and Beijing were both growing increasingly uneasy about NATO’s expansion eastward.

Trade boom

In 2001, the two sides signed the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation, agreeing to cooperate on tackling common threats and improving global stability.

A couple of years later, the sides extinguished the last remnants of the border dispute.

The political scaffolding paid off in commercial terms, with China’s total annual trade with Russia growing more than sevenfold, from just $8 billion to $60 billion, between 2000 and 2010.

Russia was providing its neighbor with energy, coal, and raw materials, while China shipped machinery, consumer electronics, and cheap manufactured goods to Russia.

New era in energy cooperation

The start of the Ukraine crisis in 2014 and sweeping Western sanctions against Russia only drew Moscow and Beijing closer.

In May 2014, Gazprom and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) signed a landmark 30-year $400 billion agreement to supply 38 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually through the Power of Siberia pipeline, which came online in December 2019.

Bilateral trade also continued to soar, with the overall trade volume tripling between 2010 and 2022 to reach more than $180 billion. Both countries also accumulated grievances against Washington.

Russia vehemently protested NATO expansion and Western support for Ukraine. China, meanwhile, remained at a stand-off with the US in the South China Sea as the two countries wrestled over trade tariffs and technology disputes.

“No limits partnership”

In early February 2022, less than three weeks before the escalation of the Ukraine conflict, Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping released a joint statement declaring that the “friendship between the two States has no limits” and that “there are no ‘forbidden’ areas of cooperation.”

China subsequently declined to condemn Moscow over its special military operation, refused to adopt Western sanctions, and blamed the conflict on NATO expansion.

It also remained Moscow’s key economic partner, especially in the energy sector, as EU nations sought to cut economic and cultural ties with Russia.

In addition, China continued to ship cars, electronics, trucks, and other goods to Russia while filling the market vacuum left by the exodus of Western companies.

In a video address to the Chinese people prior to this week’s visit, Putin said that Russia-China trade turnover had exceeded $200 billion, with most transactions being carried out in national currencies.

Drones strike Lukoil’s Kstovo refinery, hitting primary crude unit

20/05/2026

Ukrainian drones attacked the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez refinery in Kstovo, Russia, igniting fires at two industrial sites overnight on 20 May, Nizhny Novgorod governor Gleb Nikitin and the Russian Telegram channel Astra said.

It was the second drone strike on the plant in two days. Astra reported the damage was in the refinery's southwestern section, likely the ELOU-AVT primary distillation unit—the first processing stage for crude oil at one of Russia's largest refineries, with annual primary refining capacity of about 17 million tons.

Damage at the Kstovo plant

Nikitin said 30 drones were shot down over Nizhny Novgorod region overnight and during the morning.

"Falling debris caused damage and subsequent fires at two industrial facilities in Kstovo district," he said, without specifying which sites had been hit.

Schools in the district were moved to distance learning, and he added that work was underway to contain the fires and address the aftermath.

Photographs and video circulated by Astra showed columns of smoke and open flames at the refinery. The channel cited residents reporting explosions and fire in the city.

The ELOU-AVT is a combined primary refining unit that desalts crude oil and separates it into base fractions, including straight-run gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel, vacuum gas oil, and residual fuel oil.

A repeat target supplying the Moscow region

The refinery was previously struck by drones on 18 May. The plant is one of Russia's leading oil refineries and an important fuel supplier for the Moscow region, producing more than 50 product types including automotive, aviation, and diesel fuels, as well as petroleum bitumen and paraffins.

The Russian defense ministry said its air defenses had downed 273 Ukrainian drones since the evening of 19 May. It listed interceptions over the regions of Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Volgograd, Kaluga, Kursk, Lipetsk, Leningrad, Nizhny Novgorod, Novgorod, Oryol, Rostov, Smolensk, Tver, Tula, and Moscow, along with Krasnodar Krai, Stavropol Krai, and the Republic of Tatarstan.

The ministry's tally also included Russian-occupied Crimea and the waters of the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.

NSA Releases Hundreds of Pages of Formerly Top Secret UMBRA UAP Records After Disclosure Foundation FOIA Appeal

May 18, 2026

The National Security Agency has produced hundreds of pages of historical UAP-related records following a Freedom of Information Act appeal by the Disclosure Foundation.

Many of the records were previously classified "TOP SECRET UMBRA," one of the most sensitive classification markings associated with signals intelligence.

The Disclosure Foundation was proud to previously announce our Freedom of Information Act and Declassification Review campaign as part of a wider legal strategy aimed at bringing Disclosure efforts closer to the courtroom. We are excited to share progress in those efforts.

The story behind this request might be familiar to FOIA researchers. Back in 1980, a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit was brought against the National Security Agency on behalf of a citizen watchdog group to compel production of UFO-related information in the NSA's possession.

At the time, the NSA vigorously defended the lawsuit in court. To support its legal defense against producing UFO-related documents, the NSA's Chief Policy Officer, Eugene Yeates, submitted "in camera" affidavits to the court.

"In camera" is a legal term that refers to circumstances where there is a dispute about the production of a document, and the presiding judge privately reviews the disputed document and makes a decision based on that private viewing.

While the secretive "Yeates Memo" has been declassified and available to the public since 2009, the actual information and collection data referenced in that memo have never been released.

When our legal team requested the underlying supporting material that was used to produce Mr. Yeates' classified memo to the court, the NSA denied the request in its entirety.

We challenged that denial, and after a lengthy appeal, the NSA appeals authority acknowledged that its blanket denial was improper.

We are pleased to report the production of hundreds of pages of documents spanning many prior decades, nearly all of which were previously classified as "TOP SECRET UMBRA." We release them to the public here in their entirety.

Despite this historic document release, the NSA still asserts considerable redactions and exemptions for UAP-related material that dates back to the 1960's.

Our legal team is completing its review of the NSA's asserted exemptions, and we will mount all appropriate challenges to these withholdings.

Read the Full NSA Production

The full NSA FOIA production is embedded below and available for download.

"It is simply unacceptable for security classification exemptions to remain on government documents that pre-date the Civil Rights Act.

We are committed to having the courts review the legitimacy of these redactions and holding these agencies accountable to the public transparency that Congress intended." — Hunt Willis, Chief Legal Officer

We will continue to challenge the improper use of security classification exemptions that withhold historical information on this topic from the public.

To that end, this week the Foundation submitted significant Mandatory Declassification Review requests for the declassification of briefings on UAP assessments that federal law mandated Congress receive.

We are proud to pursue this initiative and utilize all remedies afforded by Congress to bring transparency on this profound issue to the public.

Why This Release Matters

This production is significant not because every page contains a dramatic revelation. Many pages are heavily redacted. Some visible portions are fragmentary.

Some entries include conventional analytic caveats, including references to objects that may have been "probably balloons."

That is exactly why the release matters.

These are not casual newspaper clippings or third-hand anecdotes sitting in a miscellaneous file.

The records were held by the National Security Agency, the U.S. intelligence agency responsible for signals intelligence, or SIGINT.

NSA describes SIGINT as foreign intelligence collected, processed, analyzed, and disseminated for foreign intelligence and counterintelligence purposes, including support to policymakers and military forces.

>>24627073

In plain English: NSA is the agency that listens, intercepts, analyzes, and reports on foreign signals and communications.

When UAP-related observations appear inside NSA signals intelligence channels, the public should understand that this is not the same as a local police report or a civilian sighting form.

It means the U.S. intelligence system collected, retained, and classified information related to unidentified anomalous phenomena in highly sensitive intelligence streams.

What "TOP SECRET UMBRA" Means

Many of the records in this production carry the marking TOP SECRET UMBRA.

"Top Secret" is the highest baseline national security classification level. Under historical classification standards, Top Secret information is information whose unauthorized disclosure could reasonably be expected to cause "exceptionally grave damage" to national security.

"Umbra" is a codeword historically associated with highly sensitive intelligence compartments. The National Archives' Information Security Oversight Office specifically warns that codewords such as "Umbra," "Talent-Keyhole," "Ruff," or "Gamma," when combined with Secret or Top Secret markings, indicate information considered particularly damaging to national security if improperly released, regardless of the age of the records.

That context is essential. The importance of this release is not that every visible line proves a particular theory about UAP.

The importance is that the U.S. government treated some UAP-related reporting as intelligence of extraordinary sensitivity.

What Is Visible in the Production

The production contains numerous heavily redacted pages, but visible portions show repeated references to:

Radar tracking of unidentified flying objects

Visual sightings

Objects moving across large distances

Altitude and heading information

References to objects assessed in some entries as "probably balloons"

Foreign or military reporting channels that remain substantially redacted

Declassification markings under Executive Order 13526

Redactions citing Public Law 86-36 / 50 U.S.C. 3605, a statute frequently used to protect NSA organization, functions, activities, and sensitive sources and methods

The visible structure of the records is also important. These are formatted intelligence messages, not narrative essays or later summaries.

The pages include message identifiers, classification markings, redaction justifications, and operational-style reporting language.

Anomalous Cases That Require Further Explanation

Several of the most readable entries in this production include the parenthetical assessment "probably balloons."

But an initial review of the full 334-page production reveals entries that tell a very different story — entries where no conventional explanation is offered, where the described characteristics are plainly inconsistent with balloon activity, and where the surrounding context is far more heavily redacted. These include:

2/4

Anonymous ID: 5db041 May 20, 2026, 11:44 a.m. No.24627076   🗄️.is 🔗kun   >>7077

>>24627074

Objects displaying controlled behavior. Multiple entries describe objects with two yellow lights, flying at low altitude, that changed heading from north to west — silently (p. 314).

A separate entry describes an object "going up and down vertically" that witnesses assessed as "impossible to be an aircraft," moving at high speed with "white-bluish luminous light" and "erratic turning movements" (p. 330).

Objects with physical characteristics inconsistent with conventional explanations. One entry, classified SECRET LARUM, describes a UFO as "spherical or disc-like in form with an established color brighter than the sun, with a diameter of one-half the visible size of the moon," observed above cloud cover with specific bearing and azimuth data recorded (p. 329). Another describes an "elongated ball of fire moving at high rate of speed" that, after covering some distance, "split into three balls of fire" (p. 333). A third entry documents an object with "luminous radiation of 22 meters extending in a spiral pattern" that gained altitude without noise (p. 322).

Military scrambles in response to unidentified objects. At least eight entries document fighter aircraft being scrambled to intercept UFOs.

In the most dramatic case, 13 MIG fighters were dispatched to chase a single unidentified object (p. 236). Other entries describe military reactions to groups of objects — 72 at once (p. 63), 23 at once (p. 71) — at altitudes exceeding 70,000 feet.

Multi-witness sightings reported through intelligence channels. One entry, classified SECRET SAVIN, documents multiple independent observers reporting the same silent, direction-changing lights at approximately 2,000 feet distance (p. 315).

The structured format — specific times, specific bearings, corroborating witnesses — reflects trained intelligence reporting, not casual observation.

The contrast in the production is stark. Entries assessed as "probably balloons" retain their analytical context: times, altitudes, headings, assessments.

Entries describing objects with disc-like shapes, extreme speeds, luminous emissions, vertical oscillation, directional changes, and silence — objects that prompted major military responses — have those same details stripped away under classification exemptions that remain in force decades later.

The question is why UAP-related reporting, including radar and visual observations, was collected in signals intelligence channels, classified at extremely high levels, retained for decades, and still redacted today — especially the entries that describe something other than balloons.

Why the Redactions Matter

The production does not simply release old records in full. Many pages remain heavily redacted, with visible exemption markings including provisions under Executive Order 13526 and references to Public Law 86-36 / 50 U.S.C. 3605.

Executive Order 13526 governs classified national security information. It also establishes the framework for automatic declassification of historically valuable records, generally after 25 years, while allowing certain categories of information to remain classified longer under specific exemption criteria.

That does not mean every redaction is illegitimate. Intelligence sources and methods can remain sensitive. Foreign relationships can remain sensitive. Technical collection capabilities can remain sensitive.

But the pattern visible in this production raises a pointed question. When an entry describes an object at 95,000 feet that triggered a military fighter response, and the operational details remain classified more than four decades later, "national security" cannot serve as an unexplained incantation. When 13 fighters were scrambled to chase a single unidentified object and the details of what they found are still withheld, the public is entitled to ask what, specifically, is being protected — and from whom.

>>24627076

The age of these records makes the question unavoidable. If UAP-related material from the 1960s and 1970s is still being withheld today, the government should be required to justify those withholdings with specificity.

The fact that mundane entries have been substantially unredacted while anomalous entries remain classified suggests a pattern that warrants judicial scrutiny.

This Is What Transparency Litigation Is For

The Freedom of Information Act was designed to give the public a lawful path to challenge government secrecy.

In this case, the NSA initially issued a blanket denial. After appeal, the agency's own appeals authority acknowledged that approach was improper and produced hundreds of pages.

Without the appeal, these records may have remained withheld. Without continued legal pressure, the remaining redactions may never receive meaningful review. Without public release, the broader implications of these records would remain confined inside government filing systems.

This is why the Disclosure Foundation's legal strategy is focused not only on public awareness, but on using the tools Congress has already provided: FOIA, Mandatory Declassification Review, administrative appeals, and, where appropriate, court review.

What This Release Does and Does Not Show

This release does not answer every question about UAP. It does not prove that any particular UAP case involved non-human technology.

It does not establish that every object referenced in the production was anomalous.

It does show something narrower, but extremely important:

The National Security Agency possessed historical UAP-related records in highly classified signals intelligence channels. Those records include references to radar tracking and visual sightings.

They include entries describing objects with physical characteristics, speeds, and behaviors plainly inconsistent with conventional explanations — objects that triggered military intercept responses.

Many were marked TOP SECRET UMBRA. Many remain heavily redacted despite their age. And those records were only produced after the Foundation challenged NSA's initial denial.

The visible entries also reveal a pattern: where the government felt comfortable offering a mundane assessment, the context was left readable. Where the reported phenomena defied easy explanation, the surrounding details were removed.

That selective disclosure is itself a form of information — and it is exactly the kind of pattern that courts are equipped to evaluate.

For a public conversation too often trapped between ridicule and speculation, that is a serious evidentiary development.

What Happens Next

The Disclosure Foundation's legal team is reviewing the NSA's asserted redactions and exemptions. Where the Foundation determines that withholdings are improper, overbroad, or insufficiently justified, it will pursue appropriate challenges.

The Foundation has also submitted significant Mandatory Declassification Review requests seeking the declassification of UAP assessment briefings that federal law required be provided to Congress.

This release is therefore not an endpoint. It is a step in a broader legal and public transparency campaign.

The public deserves to know what the government has collected, what it has withheld, and whether decades-old secrecy claims still withstand scrutiny.

Secret agent, who was about to blow the lid off UFO secrets, died 5 years ago. A whistleblower has now raised suspicion

May 20, 2026, 12:25 IST | Updated: May 20, 2026, 13:10 IST

Kevin Childress was going to blow the lid on DOE's UFO links

The case of missing and dead scientists in the United States just got another twist.

A man who was set to become a UFO whistleblower reportedly died "unexpectedly" in 2021 while relaxing at his home. Kevin Childress was a criminal investigator with the US Department of Energy (DOE) for 30 years.

He was going to face the Congress and tell them all about the DOE's ties with secret programs involving UFOs, or officially known as Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP).

UFO whistleblower raises questions on Childress' death

Kevin Childress was 56 and at his Georgia home when he passed away. His death was blamed on complications from COVID-19.

However, UFO whistleblower Luis Elizondo has raised questions about his death and claimed that the last time he spoke to Childress, which wasn't long before his death, he was perfectly healthy.

He said that Childress once told him, “Look, the Department of Energy has a significant role in the UAP business, and I'm pretty upset by what I have access to," Daily Mail reported.

Elizondo claims some officials don't want him to speak

Elizondo made the comments while speaking to Nancy Grace on Crime Stories. He added that now that he has raised suspicion over his death five years later, "the Department of Energy is trying to keep me quiet."

Grace also said that "no public autopsy or detailed official cause of death was ever released." Elizondo brought his concerns to light a week after the first batch of UFO Files was released on May 8.

"I was going to bring him there as a whistleblower and allow him to speak his piece," he said on May 15.

UFO Files and Unidentified Aerial Phenomena activity in the US

Talking about Childress, Elizondo said that he had an "investigative mind" and wished "to bring open conversations surrounding Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP)".

He was "determined to find answers to the unknowns of our universe for future generations." The US has been the hub of mysterious activity linked to flying saucers and UFOs, several of which have been reported over decades.

However, the government has maintained that there is no proof of aliens visiting Earth.

William Neil McCasland went missing in February and the matter has exploded

The FBI has been tasked with investigating a string of suspicious disappearances and deaths of scientists linked to space and secret nuclear programs.

The pattern emerged after Retired General William Neil McCasland went missing from his Albuquerque, New Mexico, home in February this year.

He is believed to be involved in the US military's secret UFO programs and worked at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, where some believe the remains of extraterrestrial vehicles are kept. He was also privy to nuclear secrets, reports suggest.

UFO researcher David Wilcock killed himself

A UFO researcher, David Wilcock, shot himself on April 20, days before the files were released. He was known for his views on UFOs and aliens, and the manner in which he died added fuel to the fire.

The 53-year-old killed himself in front of the deputies outside his home in Colorado. They were responding to a 911 call about a person "experiencing a mental health crisis."

There was no one else at the home or outside at the time. He had spoken about the missing scientists on his final YouTube broadcast. "Scientists are going missing now, and it is a little bit scary.

They're going to investigate this. The president himself is saying they're going to look into this and see if anything's going on," he said.

Scientists who have gone missing

Maj. Gen. William Neil McCasland (Ret.) since February 27, 2026

Monica Jacinto Reza, Senior Aerospace Engineer at Aerojet Rocketdyne / JPL, missing June 22, 2025

World-shaking UFO files release imminent as insider hints at 'much bigger' secrets in next disclosure drop

10:05 EDT, 20 May 2026 | Updated: 13:13 EDT, 20 May 2026

Americans are waiting with bated breath for the next wave of UFO files after officials promised the release will be 'very soon.'

Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell announced Monday on X that the materials are currently 'actively being processed' for publication.

While details about the imminent disclosure dump remain secret, investigative journalist Jeremy Corbell told the Daily Mail it could include 46 classified UFO videos requested by lawmakers earlier this year. 'There is something much bigger coming,' he said.

Corbell claimed he personally provided officials with access to the videos via what he described as classified 'intel links' linked to hidden government servers, after unknown sources leaked the clips to him.

'Not just file names. If you put the underscores in, they're linked,' Corbell said, claiming the material led directly to classified systems that 'you and I can't access.'

According to Corbell, the reaction inside official circles was immediate. 'When they saw that what I had said was there … [they said], "We need to protect these links,"' he claimed, adding: 'I've had eyes on these videos for years.'

The files were allegedly considered so sensitive that officials scrambled to contain access to them once lawmakers realized they were authentic.

Growing public pressure surrounding the footage also appeared to help push the government toward disclosure, with Corbell claiming: 'We forced the video release.'

According to Corbell, the upcoming disclosure could go far beyond blurry cockpit footage, potentially including full military analysis reports, pilot testimony and metadata detailing speed, trajectory and movement patterns.

The 46 videos have been a major talking point amid President Donald Trump's UFO disclosure push, as the clips were requested from the Department of War last month and have yet to be delivered.

Florida Representative Anna Paulina Luna penned a letter to Pete Hegseth on April 1, ordering the Pentagon to deliver 46 specific clips no later than April 14.

Lawmakers said the videos could reveal patterns of activity near sensitive military sites and help determine whether the objects pose a potential national security threat.

The requested footage reportedly shows spherical objects weaving through clouds, hovering over open water and repeatedly appearing near US warships and submarines.

>>24627243

Several clips were captured by fighter jets, surveillance aircraft and drones operating in regions such as the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan and the East China Sea.

In multiple cases, more than one object was tracked moving at high speeds at the same time, raising concerns about possible coordinated activity near sensitive military operations.

One request, titled 'Spherical UAP over AFG in and out of clouds, 11/23/20,' reportedly shows a massive disc weaving through cloud cover near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

Corbell and his partner in journalism, George Knapp, who obtained portions of the clip, said the footage was recorded during a reconnaissance mission conducted by a high-altitude Air Force platform.

However, the deadline was not met, and the videos have yet to be publicly released. 'Representative Luna reached out to me and directly told me they are going to release the 46 videos,' Corbell said, claiming Luna's public pressure campaign effectively forced the Pentagon's hand.

'Luna kind of started a battle with the Department of War,' he said, alleging that officials initially wanted the issue handled internally before lawmakers pushed for public disclosure.

Luna also shared a post on X last week saying the clips are set to be declassified 'in the coming weeks.'

Corbell asserted the shift was triggered by his newly released documentary Sleeping Dog, which featured eight of the 46 videos on Luna's list.

How would full transparency about UFO encounters change your trust in the government?

Among the footage in Sleeping Dog is what Corbell described as full-color 'satellite footage' and 'full motion video' of mysterious flying objects that he believes Americans 'need to be able to assess' for themselves.

Another video shows four log-shaped objects seemingly writhing and squirming across the night sky at high speed with no visible means of propulsion.

Additional footage labeled 'FORMATION UAP' captures three glowing lights flying in a triangular pattern while crossing over one another in coordinated movements, again without any apparent heat signature or detectable propulsion system.

That video was released by Corbell on January 30 and quickly became one of the most widely discussed UAP clips online.

He also asserted at least 14 of the videos originated from Air Force investigations, a detail he suggested was significant because 'the Air Force has been completely silent on the UAP thing.'

Corbell hinted that at least some of the clips could be explosive, saying: 'Some of them are gonna be good.'

Steven Spielberg would like to serve as Earth's ambassador to alien life, despite Barack Obama calling dibs

May 20, 2026 11:27 a.m. ET

The competition for this job is out of this world.

  • Steven Spielberg is entering the race to become Earth's alien ambassador.

  • The E.T. director revealed he thinks he'd be a good fit for the position, even though Barack Obama called dibs on the role earlier this month.

  • “I love Barack. We're friends. I love him. I love his family, but he's had his eight years, you know?” Spielberg said.

Good luck to literally anyone else hoping to become Earth’s alien ambassador now that both Steven Spielberg and Barack Obama are vying for the role.

Spielberg, the director who shaped the world’s perception of extraterrestrial life with films like E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, explained why he considers himself to be a better candidate for the position than the former president on Tuesday’s episode of The Late Show.

“I think I should represent — I mean, my whole thing is it should be me!” Spielberg declared to loud cheers from the audience. Host Stephen Colbert replied, “Everybody wants the gig!”

The filmmaker, whose upcoming film Disclosure Day also involves aliens, made it clear that he bears no ill will toward Obama in their fictional job race.

“I love Barack. We're friends. I love him,” he emphasized. “I love his family, but he's had his eight years, you know?”

And, besides, Spielberg’s got some pretty stellar qualifications of his own, too. “I think the whole thing is, I made Close Encounters,” he said.

“My first alien movie, I was 17 years old, was called Firelight, an 8-millimeter. I made E.T. and I co-produced Men in Black and War of the Worlds.”

Colbert interjected, “Now you’re just bragging.”

“No, I'm not bragging,” Spielberg said, defending himself and his alien credentials. “Here’s the point I'm trying to make: I've made all these movies where I've kind of played an ambassadorial role. They've never shown themselves to me. Why is that? It's so unfair.”

When Colbert suggested that aliens are afraid of contacting Spielberg in case he uses footage of them in one of his films, the director replied, “I have no idea, but I'm available, guys!”

Earlier this month, Obama revealed that he believed he’d make a “good emissary for the planet” if humans ever make contact with aliens.

"I've got a diverse background, some experience in statecraft and diplomacy. I'm friendly," the former president said on the May 5 episode of The Late Show. "So I actually think I could do a pretty good job."

He also shot down speculation that the government knew more about aliens than it was telling Americans.

“This idea of conspiracy theories… If there were aliens or alien spaceships or anything under the control of the United States government that we knew about — seen photographs, what have you — I promise you some guy guarding the installation would have taken a selfie with one of the aliens and sent it to his girlfriend to impress her,” he said. “It would leak!”

Donald Trump also beamed himself into the alien conversation, posting an AI-generated image of himself walking alongside a super tall and shredded alien in handcuffs on a military base over the weekend.

Trump Reportedly Briefed On UFO Crash Program

May 19, 2026

The President of the United States has reportedly been read into the program that has been kept from sitting presidents for decades.

According to investigative journalist Ross Coulthart, the President is now briefed on the legacy UAP crash retrieval program. Coulthart credited four lawmakers for forcing the issue.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna, Congressman Eric Burlison, and Congressman Tim Burchett. In Coulthart’s framing, the open question is what the President plans to tell the American people now that he is fully read in.

The report arrived in the same window the President posted what appears to be an artificial intelligence generated image of himself walking next to a gray figure at what looks like a military base, posted directly to Truth Social.

For months, whistleblower David Grusch has publicly stated the President may have been briefed during his first term, an idea he raised earlier this year.

On May 16th, Dr. Eric Davis, the physicist who served as science advisor to the original UAP Task Force, posted that Grusch likely misspoke.

According to Davis, what the President received during his first term was the standard UAP Task Force briefing under Jay Stratton’s team, and that briefing did not include the legacy crash retrieval program.

Davis has argued elsewhere that the legacy program was hidden through financial fraud and concealment from the executive branch itself, which is why he has questioned whether any sitting President could have been fully briefed until very recently.

Congressman Eric Burlison is opening a separate front. Burlison sent a formal letter to MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Massachusetts requesting a classified 1952 briefing video referenced internally as a flying saucer talk.

Burlison posted on X that the lab’s attorneys responded quickly and committed to comply within thirty days. His investigation is now following the trail into RAND, MITRE, Aerospace Corporation, MIT Lincoln Labs, and Northrop Grumman.

The week also saw a shift from Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna, chairwoman of the Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets.

According to reporting from Matt Laslo of Ask a Pol, Luna told reporters after a closed door classified UAP briefing at FBI headquarters that the briefing was a ten out of ten, and that it makes her reconsider AARO, the Pentagon’s All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office.

The shift is interesting given that Luna had previously called for AARO to be defunded and disbanded, then more recently posed for a photo with AARO director Jon Kosloski and publicly endorsed the office. (Read more here).

Anna Paulina Luna’s X post

The most recent on the record statements from former Pentagon AATIP director Lue Elizondo, drawn from his appearance on Keeping It Real with Jillian Michaels, frame the personal stakes for the people who pushed this disclosure window open.

Elizondo confirmed that he and David Grusch, while working together at US Space Force after Elizondo left the Pentagon, were both directly threatened to stay silent or have their mouths shut for them.

Elizondo also described, on the record, an incident involving a senior CIA officer he says is a personal friend and the officer’s wife, a CIA psychologist. According to Elizondo, the couple woke up in a state of panic in their Virginia home and then woke up again outside on their back lawn. Agency doctors reportedly found a puncture wound on the back of the officer’s neck, and his wife later sneezed out a small piece of foreign material that Elizondo described as a technological metal chip.

Former CIA officer says we’re all aliens and brought up the US Military hybrid breeding program again

May 20, 2026

Former CIA officer John Ramirez went on record this week saying “we are all aliens” and that there is an alien-human hybrid breeding program. He said there are humans among us who might be more extraterrestrial than human.

He said some of us have “an enhancement of that alien DNA.” He also dropped that the Cherokee Nation links directly to Atlantis survivors and that extraterrestrials see us as their children who are failing as stewards of the planet.

This week alone, Ramirez, Lue Elizondo, Congressman Tim Burchett, and Matt Gaetz have all talked publicly about the hybrid breeding program.

Four separate people in or adjacent to the United States government, on the record, in the same week, discussing alien-human hybridization like it’s a known fact.

Am I surprised? Not in the slightest. Former CIA officer says we’re all aliens, so that’s great.

Alien Breeding Programs Eh? Well, We’ve Been Here Before

Back in April, I wrote about Gaetz going on the record claiming a uniformed United States Army officer briefed him on six to twelve secret facilities where captured aliens are actively breeding with humans to create a hybrid race capable of intergalactic communication.

Matt Gaetz…lol

The man who spent years embroiled in personal scandals, who wasn’t confirmed as Attorney General, who has never been the most credible voice in any room he’s ever entered.

That guy is now one of several government figures talking about alien breeding programs on camera.

In case you missed it…

Just last night I wrote about Dr. Hal Puthoff, a Stanford-trained quantum physicist and former CIA-funded researcher, claiming the U.S. has recovered four distinct alien species from crashed UFOs.

Grays, Nordics, Insectoids, and Reptilians…each with two arms, two legs, and a humanoid appearance.

The Reptilians are scaly and lizard-like with long tails, roughly six feet tall, walking upright. The Nordics resemble people from northern Europe despite being from another planet.

The Grays are the classic big-eyed creatures from every alien movie. The Insectoids look like praying mantises with human limbs.

It’s hard to keep up these days, folks…

Now we’re at alien-human hybrid breeding programs again

The claims have escalated from “there are unexplained things in the sky” to “the government has recovered aliens” to “there are secret facilities where aliens and humans are breeding” in the span of a few weeks.

The conversation is moving faster than anyone can process it.

Alien-Human Breeding? My Response (Again)

(Almost) Nothing Is Off Limits Anymore

Literally nothing. Government officials are talking about alien DNA in humans. Former CIA officers are connecting Native American tribes to Atlantis. Congressmen are describing secret military breeding facilities on podcasts.

Scientists are naming aliens like they’re cataloging wildlife. Every week the claims get bigger and more specific and nobody in a position of authority is stepping in to say “this isn’t real.”

Well, almost nothing is off limits.

The Epstein files are still safe apparently. Check the election results in Kentucky and look at who funded what. It’ll start making a lot more sense why the one guy pushing hardest for the full unredacted release of the Epstein documents isn’t in office anymore.

Some secrets are more protected than others and the alien stuff conveniently keeps dominating the news cycle every time the Epstein conversation threatens to resurface.

I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it. The UFO drops, the aliens, the breeding program revelations, all of it might be real. It also might be the most elaborate distraction campaign in the history of the United States government.

Every time the Epstein files get brought up, another bombshell alien claim drops and the entire media ecosystem pivots. That pattern is either a coincidence or it isn’t. I don’t believe in coincidences at this scale.

I Still Need to See Something

The claims keep getting bigger. The evidence never follows. Nobody can produce a single clear photograph. Nobody can produce a single piece of physical evidence. Nobody can produce a single government document that says “yes, we have alien bodies and here they are.”

Four aliens recovered from crashed UFOs. Six to twelve breeding facilities. Hybrid humans walking among us. Cherokee connections to Atlantis. All of this is being stated as fact by people with government credentials and security clearances and yet the physical evidence remains at exactly zero.

I want to believe it. I’ve been covering this beat on the site since the beginning. The missing scientists. The Pentagon file drops. The Congressional testimony. The Obama comments. The Trump directives. All of it.

Still, wanting to believe in aliens and having reason to believe in aliens are obviously two different things.

Until someone puts a photograph on a table or walks an alien body into a press conference, the claims are just claims. Dramatic, increasingly specific, coming from increasingly credible sources, but still claims without proof.

The Pentagon dropped 400-plus files a couple weeks ago and the most compelling material was Apollo astronaut transcripts from the 1960s describing unexplained lights.

The rest was grainy footage and vague military reports. If the government has alien bodies and breeding programs, show us. Stop the podcast tour.

Stop the Congressional hints. Stop the controlled drips of information designed to keep the public engaged without ever actually confirming anything definitively.

Show us or stop talking about it.
