A sudden silence

Radio Caroline, a well-known station broadcasting across England, recently found itself in the middle of a major media scare.

A severe computer issue caused the broadcaster to accidentally trigger an emergency protocol on Tuesday afternoon.

The automated system mistakenly announced that King Charles had died. The station then fell completely silent.

The dead air was a built-in requirement for the emergency process. Station manager Peter Moore quickly stepped in to clarify the situation and stop the growing confusion.

Moore explained that a “Death of a Monarch procedure” accidentally went live at their main studio. According to GB News, he noted that all UK stations keep this protocol ready while hoping they never require it.

A formal apology

The station immediately cut the silence to restore normal programming and issue an on-air correction. Management was quick to express their deep regret over the massive digital error.

“We apologise to HM the King and to our listeners for any distress caused,” Moore stated in an official announcement.

The station manager also emphasized the broadcaster’s long-standing respect for the royal family. He added that the team has been proud to broadcast the annual Christmas message and hopes to do so for years.

Business as usual

While the station scrambled to fix the mistake, the 77-year-old monarch was actually alive and well. King Charles and Queen Camilla were busy carrying out official duties across the Irish Sea.

The royal couple was visiting Northern Ireland for a short diplomatic trip. They spent their afternoon meeting with local political leaders, including the First Minister and Deputy First Minister in Belfast.

The trip marked a joyful occasion as the royals celebrated Belfast hosting a massive traditional Irish music festival this summer. They also toured a local distillery and a digital skills hub.
