i shot at a milk jug once and the bb came back and hit my safety glasses
i was like 'yikes'
my mom and her bf were fooling around so they didn't even see me almost lose my eyeball

safety glasses saved my eye(s) at least 2 times in my life
many times i got things in my eyes when i didn't take time to go find them (usually from small sander/grinder/spinning wire brush) which would bother all evening
these days i use a welding mask w/ clear plastic and leather sleeve, also i try to pick windy days and let the wind blow material dust away
