Report: Dems Caught in an ‘Anger Trap’ over Trump that Could Cost Them More Elections

Some Democrats are concerned that after adecade of fighting President Donald Trump they are now held captive by anti-Trump resentment with little chance of escape.

That’s the conclusion of a report published in the Hill Saturday, which pointed out that the long-awaitedpost-2024 election autopsy of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) reinforced that point.

Democrats leaned too heavily on negative partisanship, the nearly 200-page autopsy concluded, andfocused too much on attacks on Donald J. Trumpin messages to Americans who would ultimately cast the votes.

That autopsy was not without its controversy as ==members of Congress and some pundits are calling for DNC chair Ken Martin, who ordered it, to resign=+, Breitbart News reported Friday.

Some lawmakers and observers, including Democrat mega donor John Morgan, told Fox News that the party — and candidate Kamala Harris — failed because they ignored issues. And, he said, they backed policies like open borders and transgender sports that alienated voters— something the autopsy completely ignored.

Ironically, the autopsy itself appeared to have fallen into whatthe Hill called the Trump “anger trap,” or what Republicans commonly refer to as Trump Derangement Syndrome, or TDS.

As Breitbart reported, the autopsy also stated thatDemocrats failed to make a strong case against the former president in the 2024campaign.

But“anti-Trump sentiment” can only go so far in achieving success at the polls, the Hill concluded, saying that whatwas missing was a vision that could win voters overor a case as to what Democrats would do with power if they achieved it.

The outlet reported the anger only continues, writing:

This week at the 2026 IDEAS Conference hosted by the Center for American Progress, anger was also displayed by a series of Democratic speakers, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who is a front-runner in the 2028 presidential race.

He and others spoke mostly about fighting the president and his party, amessage that Democrats caution will fire up the base but may not be enough to win over independents, and thus, elections.

“Trump is the best base mobilizer for Democrats right now,” Democrat strategist Joel Payne told the Hill. “But I think there is a broad understanding that the clock is ticking on how much longer Democrats can rely on polarization because of Trump to galvanize our voters.”

Democrat strategist Dan Turrentine also sounded an alarm. In a Substack post this weektitled “Can D’s Control Their Fury?”the analyst said Democrats were “becoming blinded by” seething anger.

Turrentine also attended the “Ideas” conference in the capital’s Mayflower hotel and wrote:

As the day went on,I was stunned by how consumed speakers and moderators were by raw fury against Donald Trump’s administration. Time and again, they looked and sounded angry, and no matter the topic, talked incessantly about losing our democracy and the country being genuinely destroyed. Even if one sees that point of view as table stakes at such an event, I expected some degree of pivot to happy warrior optimism – a smile and laying out at a high level what could – or will – be accomplished when we regain power.

The party’s reputation has suffered as a result, according to the Hill.

Only 28 percent of those surveyed in a CNN poll in April had a positive view of the Democratic Party, while 56 percent viewed the party negatively.

However, Republicans fared only slightly better.

Just 32 percent of Americans said they viewed the GOP positively, with 55 percent seeing it in a negative light.

If western countries cannot denounce the Ukrainian bombing of a Russia college, and killing innocent teenagers, it’s worse then all time.

LIVE UPDATES

At least 18 killed in Ukrainian drone strike on Russian school dorm (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

The attack on the college in Russia’s Lugansk People’s Republic was not accidental, President Vladimir Putin has said

Published 22 May, 2026 08:38 | Updated

At least 18 people have been killed and dozens more – most of them students – have been injured in what President Vladimir Putin has described as a deliberate Ukrainian “terrorist attack” on a school dormitory in Russia’s Lugansk People’s Republic.

The attack on the main academic building and dormitory of the Starobelsk Professional College, which teaches students aged 14 to 18, was carried out in three waves, with 16 drones launched at the same target by the “neo-Nazi regime in Kiev,” according to Putin.

Governor Leonid Pasechnik said 86 students were inside the facility at the time of the attack. At least three are still unaccounted for and feared trapped under the rubble. Emergency services recovering the bodies had to pause operations at one point due to concerns over a Ukrainian “double-tap” strike.

Russia’s UN envoy, Vassily Nebenzia, told an emergency Security Council session that the strike was carried out “deliberately” at night, when the dormitory was full, to maximize the number of casualties.

Key developments:

Nebenzia accused Western diplomats of “turning a blind eye” to the crimes of the “neo-Nazi Kiev regime,”blasting their statements as “mockery”and “dancing on the bones” of the dead children.

Moscow expects the international community to condemn the Ukrainian attack, which “cannot be described as anything other than a war crime,”Russia’s newly appointed human rights commissioner, Yana Lantratova, told RT.

President Putin said there were no military facilities near the college dormitory, adding that Russia “cannot limit itself to statements in such a situation” and ordering the Defense Ministry to present options for a response.

Kiev has called the college a legitimate target, claiming it hosted a Russian drone unit, despite numerous videos from the scene showing injured students and no sign of military activity. At the same time, Ukraine has launched new strikes against Russia, with at least one civilian killed in Bryansk Region and ten drones intercepted near Moscow.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused the Western media of ignoring the tragedy, saying the BBC refused to travel to Starobelsk, which she called “proof of the West’s deliberate lies.” She also claimed that Japanese journalists were barred from covering the incident.

Zakharova added that Moscow is arranging a visit to the site for foreign correspondents accredited in Russia, noting that “a large number” have already expressed interest.

18:34 GMT

Journalists from across “all the continents”have expressed readiness to travel to Starobelsk to film the scene of the Ukrainian attack, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has told RIA Novosti. Earlier in the day, she said the BBC refused to visit the Russian town, while Japanese reporters had been barred from covering the incident altogether.

17:27 GMT

RT has spoken to one of the survivors of the Ukrainian attack, college student Maksim. He confirmed that the college was hit by multiple drones rather than other munitions, stating the incoming projectiles emitted distinctive engine sounds.

The young man said he was trapped under rubble in the initial attack, falling two stories from the fourth floor as he tried to escape the damaged building. He was also hit with a falling brick on his head and ultimately thrown out of the building by the shockwave of another drone that hit the location.

He suffered serious burns to his back as well as heavy bruising all over his body yet miraculously avoided more serious injuries.

17:23 GMT

The US Embassy in Kiev has warned Americans of an allegedly imminent “significant air attack” on the Ukrainian capital. The strikes will occur “any time over next 24 hours,” the mission claimed.

16:40 GMT

The capital of the Lugansk People’s Republic came under Ukrainian drone attack on Saturday, local governor Leonid Pasechnik has said. Two people have received light wounds when the kamikaze aircraft exploded near a flower shop and a pharmacy in central Lugansk, he wrote on Telegram, sharing images from the scene.

We see nothing: How has the West reacted to the Ukrainian strike on a Russian school dorm?

Kiev’s backers refuse to acknowledge Kiev’s drone raid on Starobelsk that left at least 18 students dead and dozens more injured 1/2

Published 23 May, 2026 16:13 |

At least 18 people have been killed and dozens more wounded – most of them students – in a Ukrainian drone raid on a school dormitory in Starobelsk in Russia’s Lugansk People’s Republic on Friday. As of Saturday afternoon, search-and-rescue operations are still underway, with local officials reporting additional Ukrainian drone attacks aimed at derailing the efforts.

President Vladimir Putin called the raid a“terrorist attack by the neo-Nazi regime,” adding that he ordered the military to prepare retaliation.

Following the attack, Russia requested an emergency UN Security Council session.

However, despite ample evidence and videos from the scene,Western countries have cast doubt on Russia’s account, demanding “an independent investigation” and claiming that the tragedy took place on “occupied territory.” Lugansk, along with three other former Ukrainian regions, overwhelmingly voted in favor of joining Russia in 2022 in a referendum that Ukraine and its Western backers have refused to recognize.

Here’s how Russia, the West, and Ukraine sparred at the UN Security Council.

What did Russia say about the Starobelsk attack?

Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, led the charge at the Security Council, calling the Ukrainian strike an unambiguous war crime. He called the raid “a deliberate strike” conducted “with the aim of incurring the highest possible number of casualties.”

Nebenzia saidthe “European [countries’] cynicism has gone off the charts,” as none of them bothered to mention the dead students in Starobelsk. The West’s reaction “cannot be even called hypocrisy or double standards” – it is “blatant mockery of child victims,” he said.

Nebenzia added thathe feels “somewhat embarrassed and ashamed” over the Western diplomats’ reluctance to acknowledged the facts.

How did the West respond?

The most contemptuous response camefrom Latvia, which immediately dismissed Russia’s account out of hand. Its envoy called Russia “imperialist” and said independent media and experts are required.

Denmark has accused Russia of failing to provide “unfettered access for credible independent journalists or international humanitarian organizations” to the site – despite Moscow’s invitation to Western journalists to see the site for themselves.

The UK and France also urged an independent investigation.

The US envoy said Washington is “following the reports of those killed and wounded in Lugansk overnight,” adding that “many questions concerning this attack remain outstanding.”

What did Ukraine say about the Starobelsk attack?

Kiev’s envoy called thesession “a shameless attempt by the Russian Federation to turn reality upside down,” dismissing all statements on Starobelsk as an attempt to “manipulate international public opinion” and as “pure propaganda.”

Unlike Kiev’s Western backers, the Ukrainian envoy did not call for an independent investigation, saying the truth cannot be established until the former Ukrainian territory is “liberated.”

Has Russia invited Western journalists?

Yes. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced on Saturday that Moscow is extending an official invitation to foreign journalists to visit the site. She later said theBBC declined to send a reporter, while CNN is apparently “on vacation.” She added that Japan barred its journalists from covering the tragedy. According to Zakharova, however, many foreign reporters have signaled that they are willing to go to Starobelsk.

The Bottom line

Compelling evidence has not convinced Western countries – which have spent hundreds of billions of dollars to support Kiev in the conflict with Russia – to hold Ukraine accountable.

Speaking to RT, Aleksandr Bobrov, an associate professor at MGIMO, Russia’s leading international affairs university, said the West’s response to the Starobelsk tragedy should not be taken “too literally” – describing it as a “theater” in which each diplomat simply delivers their country’s official line.

He argued that Starobelsk is becoming “a very painful subject” for Ukraine and its European backers– one that could eventually become synonymous with “Ukrainian aggression.” As a result, Bobrov saidWestern diplomats resorted to “absolutely clumsy statements” designed to shift attention away from the attack to unrelated matters.

“I believe that Russian diplomacy will have to convey the voice of truth at every level– not only at the United Nations, but also at the OSCE and other international platforms – so that all those responsible are appropriately punished,” he said.

(This is literally disgusting that know EU country can’t admit it’s a crime to kill innocent college kids, because they are Russian. Ukraine has corrupted and perverted the entire Continent.)

No fast-track EU membership for Ukraine – Merz

Kiev has repeatedly demanded a set date for its accession

Published 25 Apr, 2026

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has ruled out Ukraine’s immediate accession to the European Union, instead calling for a phased approach to integration, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported on Friday.

Earlier this week, Bloomberg cited an unnamedEU official as saying that leaders had signaled preliminary conditions are in place for Ukraine to begin the first stage of the membershipprocess, with talks potentially starting in the coming weeks or months.

It is clear to everyone that an immediate accession of Ukraine to the EU is, of course, not possible,” Merz said as cited by the news agency after an EU summit in Cyprus. “I also want to enable closer integration into the European institutions, for example through participation in European councils without voting rights.”

The comment comes as European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, in a joint statement, called for immediate “opening of negotiation clusters”on Ukraine’s EU membership.

At the same time, Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky rejected any lesser form of membership, insisting on full accession and saying his country is “defending common European values.” He has repeatedly urged Brussels to set a concrete date, arguing it should come no later than 2027.

Merz already characterized Zelensky’s goal of membership by 2027as “not possible”earlier this year, saying that Ukraine needs first to stabilize its institutions and economy and root out corruption.

Von der Leyen, who granted Ukraine candidate status within weeks of its 2022 application, has previouslyrejected the idea of setting a firm date, telling Zelensky in February: “From our side, dates by themselves are not possible.”

The country’s accessionhas been consistently opposed by Slovakiaand by Hungary under the outgoing government of Viktor Orban. They argue thatUkrainian membership could draw the EU into an open conflict with Russia and undermine the bloc’s economy.

Moscow says it does not oppose Ukraine joining the organization, but has criticized what Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called its transformation into an “aggressive military-political bloc” and an “appendage of NATO.” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has also warned that Ukraine’s accession could undermine the EU and even lead to its collapse.

Zelensky dismisses ‘associate’ EU membership as ‘unfair’ – Reuters. KEK

The Ukrainian leader has reportedlydemanded full admission into the blocin response to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s proposal

Published 23 May, 2026 17:25 | Updated

Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky has dismissed as “unfair” anything short of full EU membership. in response to a proposal by German Chancellor FriedrichMerz to grant Kiev ‘associate membership,’ Reuters has reported.

Soon after theescalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, Kiev was granted EU candidate status and has since persistently pushed for fast-tracked admission into the bloc. Despite reservations voiced by multiple member states, including Germany and France,Zelensky has demanded full membership by as early as 2027.

On Saturday,Reuters reported that the Ukrainian leader had sent a letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Antonio Costa, and Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, who holds the rotating chair of the EU Council.

It would be unfair for Ukraine to be present in the European Union, but remain voiceless,” Zelensky reportedly wrote in the letter seen by Reuters, insisting that the “time is right to move forward with Ukraine’s membership in a full and meaningful way.”

According to the publication,Zelensky specifically cited the removal from power of former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, whose party lost the general election last month. While in office, Orban staunchly opposed the prospect of Ukraine’s membership in the EU.

Under current rules, a new country can only join the bloc with the unanimous support of all 27 member states.

In his letter, the Ukrainian leader reportedly claimed thathis country “deserves a fair approach and equal rights within Europe” as it is supposedly “defending” the bloc.

Earlier this week, several media outlets reported that Merz had sent a letter to the EU leadership, proposing ‘associate membership’ for Ukraine. The interim status, which is not currently enshrined in the bloc’s rules, would allow Kiev access to certain EU-funded programs as well as the right to solicit aid from member statesin the event of an attack.

Under the scheme,Ukraine would also be representedat the European Council, the European Commission, and the European Parliamentin a non-voting capacity, according to multiple media outlets, citing Merz’s letter.

Hungary restores sensitive anti-Ukraine ban

The Orban-era ban on Ukrainian food imports was introduced in 2023 to protect Hungarian farmers from cheap Ukrainian imports flooding the markets

Published 23 May, 2026 09:27

Hungary has restored a ban on Ukrainian food imports after the new government “accidentally” allowed the restrictions to lapse.

The ban, covering around 20 categories of agricultural goods, was introduced in 2023 after former Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s government declared an emergency over the economic fallout of the Ukraine conflict.

Budapest argued that cheap Ukrainian imports flooded EU border markets after Brussels lifted tariffs, undercutting Hungarian farmers and destabilizing the agriculture sector.

While transit shipments were allowed, imports for the Hungarian market were restricted, and the ban stayed in place even after the EU replaced its temporary tariff-free regime with a trade pact last year.

However, shortly after incoming PM Peter Magyar’s Tisza party defeated Orban’s Fidesz in the recent election, the new government ended the state of emergency, automatically causing the trade restrictions tied to it to expire.

Following pressure from the main Hungarian farmers’ association and reports that several grain shipments already crossed the border,Budapest scrambled to restore the restrictions. On Friday, the government issued a decree reinstating the ban, followed by a post on X from Magyar confirming that Hungary “bans the import of agricultural products from Ukraine.”

The sanctions were canceled due to a legislative error,” a government spokesperson told Euractiv, claiming lawmakers were reviewing nearly 1,000 decrees inherited from the previous government and theimport ban was “accidentally not taken into account.”

Agriculture Minister Szabolcs Bonadescribed the lapse as a “serious legislative trap for Hungarian farmers,” and pledged that the government “will not allow Ukrainian or any other imported product to endanger the livelihood of Hungarian farmers.”

Poland and Slovakia also maintain restrictions on Ukrainian agricultural imports introduced alongside Hungary, despite opposition from Brussels.

The European Commission has argued that the bans are illegal because trade policy falls under EU authority, and last year reportedly considered legal action against the countries, though none has followed. Karin Karlsbro, the European Parliament’s rapporteur on EU-Ukraine trade, told Euractivshe “deeply regrets” Hungary’s decision to maintain the “illegal import ban.”

Kiev has not yet commented. Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky has repeatedly criticized the bans.

While Magyar campaigned on closer ties with the EU,several moves suggest continuity with Orban. Magyar has opposed fast-tracking Ukraine’s EU membership and kept Hungary out of the bloc’s latest Ukraine funding initiative.

However, he signaled thatthe EU’s new Ukraine aid package would not be blocked and softened the government’s tone on social issuesby appointing Judit Lannert – which the media has called Hungary’s “first LGBT activist” – as education minister.

‘Utterly Stupid’: Mitch McConnell Joins Mounting Group Of GOP Officials Against Trump’s ‘Slush Fund’

Willa Pope Robbins

May 21st, 2026,

(McConnell didn’t say this he can’t talk or cognize, it was his mouthpiece)

Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) slammed President Donald Trump’s “anti-weaponization fund” on Thursday after a meeting with Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche that saw widespread Republican opposition to the move.

Blanche sat down with lawmakers on Thursday to discuss his department’s new $1.776 billion fund set up as part of a settlement of Trump’s $10 billion lawsuitagainst the Internal Revenue Service over the 2019 leak of his tax returns. The meeting seemingly did not go well, with Semafor’s Burgess Everett reportingthat it was “being described as a ‘sh*tshow’ per people familiar with it.”

A number of Republicans have spoken out publicly against the fund, with Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) one of its most vocal critics, refering to the policy on Thursday as “stupid on stilts.”Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) also critisized the policy, as did Senator Susan Collins(R-ME), who said said she did not believe that the fund should go towards paying those who were convicted of violence against police officers. Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL) toldreporters she too would have a problem with that possibility.

Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) vowedto try to “kill” it and went so far as to introduce a bill to block the fund from using taxpayer dollars, while Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) called it a “slush fund.” Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) told CNN’s Manu Raju that “the decision to unveil $1.8B fund now (when they’re trying to pass the bill) was a giant mistake,” adding, “Somebody described it as a galactic blunder, and I think that’s probably true.”

McConnell joined the chorus on Thursday as well, calling out Blanche specifically in a strongly worded statement that called the fund “morally wrong.”

“So the nation’s top law enforcement official is asking for a slush fund to pay people who assault cops? Utterly stupid, morally wrong – Take your pick,” he said.

The opposition to the fund reportedly led to Thune sending his colleagues home on recess without a vote on a reconciliation bill that would have funded tens of billions of Trump’s immigration enforcement policies.

(The war on MAGA will fail!)

Trump yanked AI order after David Sacks raised industry concerns 1/2

The last-minute intervention by the president’sformer AI czarcame amid complaints from some tech companies, people told POLITICO. (When did he stop being the AI Czar?

Smart Anons interpret what happened, all Trump wanted was AI companies being overseen by the governmet?)

05/21/2026 09:06 PM

Thursday’s abrupt postponement of President Donald Trump’s much-awaited executive order on artificial intelligence came afterformer AI czar David Sacks voiced industry concerns about the measure to Trump, according to a senior White House official and two people familiar with the matter.

Sacks’ 11th hour intervention — and his arguments that the order could prove too onerous for the rapidly evolving AI industry — came even though he had been briefed about the directive in recent days, one of the people told POLITICO. The people were granted anonymity to discuss internal conversations.

The executive order, which the White House planned to release Thursday afternoon, would have set in motion a voluntary oversight system in which developers of advanced AI models could submit their products to a review by federal agencies before releasing them, POLITICO previously reported. It was meant to address concerns that advanced AI products from companies like Anthropic could unleash devastating cyberattacks and other havoc if they fell into the wrong hands.

But during a conversation with Trump, Sacks told the president that companies were already cooperating, and that having the federal government review models before their public release would slow down innovation and harm the U.S. in its AI race with China, the senior White House official and one of the other people said.==

Sacks did not respond to a request for comment.

The Silicon Valley venture capitalist was not the sole obstacle, one of the people said, citing opposition from some other industry leaders.

The proposal had gotten a mixed reception in the tech industry: OpenAI, developer of one of the most advanced AI models, has been supportive of the contours of the order.

Chris Lehane, OpenAI’s top lobbyist, told reporters last week that the company believed in the importance of collaborating with the government on AI safety.

Lehane said the company was focused on “the ability to innovate, but doing it in concert with the government in a way that actually really prioritizes that safe deployment.”

Trump offered few details Thursday about why he delayed the signing of the order. The people familiar with the issue saidhis staff had not only briefed tech executives on the orderbut had invited several leading Silicon Valley leaders to the ceremony.

“I didn’t like certain aspects of it,”Trump told reporters Thursday morning. “I think it gets in the way of — we’re leading China. We’re leading everybody, and I don’t want to do anything that’s going to get in the way of that.”

But the senior White House official and the two peoplesaid the rollout unraveled after Sacks raised objections directly with Trump in the days before its planned release, blindsiding some White House staff involved in the process.

According to the White House official, Sacks had participated in a review of the EO this week, and White House officials believed he was generally happy with it and would support it.

But Wednesday night, he began to raise concerns, including fears that the voluntary nature of the agreement may one day become mandatory, the senior White House official said.

“Then, he called POTUS this morning unbeknownst to anybody, his own staff included, and derailed it,” the White House official said.

The reversal alsocame after industry officials raised concerns about a proposed voluntary review processfor cutting-edge “frontier” AI models, according to four people familiar with the matter, who were granted anonymity to discuss private discussions.Industry officials had pushed for the White House to shorten the time frame to share new models with the White House from 90 days to 14 days, said three of the people.

Industry officials also pushed for the proposed order to give responsibility to the intelligence community to lead the effort to review new models, according to one of the people. A readout of the order shared with industry officials on Tuesday would give the National Security Agency final say on which systems are considered “covered frontier models,” with other agencies helping set up a classified benchmarking process within 60 days.

A draft of the order shared with POLITICO stressed the voluntary nature of the review: “Nothing in this section shall be construed to authorize the creation of a mandatory governmental licensing, preclearance, or permitting requirement for the development, publication, release, or distribution of new AI models, including frontier models.”

Four people familiar with the planning also said the delay was due in part to the fact that several leading tech CEOs who were invited on short notice could not attend. OpenAI, Anthropic and Meta were all expected to send lower executives in place of their CEOs, people familiar with planning said.
