It was reactionary, if there aren't a bunch of images of rallies packed with Q supporters then they aren't going to keep running with it.
They probably are motivated by suppression, and so if they get the impression it's working, they aren't going to give Q any more air time than necessary.
All of this is pointless, obviously, but they are desperate and stupid.
