UK PS5 Users Must Verify Their Age Now or Lose PlayStation Chat
Sony is now sending PlayStation users age verification reminders ahead of a June 2026 cutoff in the UK.
If UK PlayStation users do not complete age verification, Sony says communication features may stop working on their account. That includes voice chat, text messages, parties, Discord voice chat, YouTube and Twitch broadcasting, and some in-game communication or user-generated-content features.
To be clear: this is not a total PS5 lockout. Sony says unverified users can still play games and access PlayStation, but communication features will not be available until age verification is completed.
Sony offers several verification routes, including mobile number verification, facial age estimation, or government ID. The verification process is handled by Yoti.
