I posted this a few days ago. It got some recommendations for notables so I'll try again. Provides research avenues:

Here is a list of what you can find on the National Association of Secretaries of State site. SOS head up most state elections stuff-but not always. Some of these people may have inherited situations they know little about. (Most will not be computer autists and rely on others) Its dry going but important. For example, what do states think about Federal election mandates and why would they oppose? What are some of the corporate relationships? Who helps fund their conventions?

Caution- do not read select files out of context, get to know how this allegedly works.

Hope this helps.

"As the officials who oversee the 50-state incorporation process in the U.S., Secretaries of State are dedicated to assisting federal law enforcement in cracking down against criminals who attempt to hide behind front companies and shell entities. Since 2010, NASS has promoted measures to help federal law enforcement gain access to company ownership information disclosed through federal tax filings and financial disclosure reports."

(Who might be interested in shell companies?)

Search for SOS and George Soros:

(Not necessarily connecting but some interesting items)

(Keep in mind it's not a D or R thing but who benefits issue (Like Ryan and NoName as alleged Republicans) Some of this is old news but possible some people are still in place)

Now defunct or not?

Did it work?

https://dailycaller.com/2010/11/09/soros-supported-secretary-of-state-project-dealt-blow-in-midterm-elections/

Implies it didn't work well but if thinking long term (Don't get hung up on D vs R, think who benefits) Do some SOS stay for several terms? Do people usually pay attention to this position:

Cleaning out from bottom up may involve more than just the national government. Why would Soros be continually interested in state government?

Not pertinent to above but interesting:
