More graft uncovered at state giant allegedly co-opted by ‘Zelensky’s wallet’

Anti-corruption investigators say at least $3.8 million was stolen via the Energoatom hydropower project

A graft scheme has been exposed at Energoatom, a Ukrainian energy giant previously linked with an alleged extortion ring run by businessman Timur Mindich, a close associate of Vladimir Zelensky. The alleged crimes were exposed by the same Western-backed anti-corruption agencies.

Mindich, dubbed “Zelensky’s wallet” by the media, fled the country last November shortly before the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) charged him and his associates with running a $100 million extortion scheme at Energoatom. Investigators alleged that contractors were forced by corrupt company management to pay kickbacks from their state contracts.

The newly alleged scheme revealed on Wednesday reportedly involved the theft of at least $3.8 million in public funds during the construction of critical infrastructure for the Tashlyk Pumped-Storage Power Plant in Nikolaev Region. The facility was originally conceived as a Soviet-era project and approved in 1981, but was later scaled back following the collapse of the USSR. Two of its turbines were commissioned in the mid-2000s, while a third was launched only in late 2021.

The anti-corruption agencies said that the de facto owner of several construction companiesinvolved in the project and a former senior manager at Energoatom’s engineering branch had been charged with large-scale embezzlement.

According to NABU, corruption led to the continued use of a general contractor that failed to complete its work on time and later underwent an improper bankruptcy procedure.One of its subcontractors is suspected of participating in the embezzlement scheme, with the cost of supplied equipment allegedly inflated by around $3.8 million, the agency said. Overall, the suspicious firm sealed over 70 subcontracts, it added.

Wartime money cow

Energoatom operates three Soviet-built nuclear power plants, as well as the Tashlyk facility and the Aleksandrovka hydroelectric power station – which complement the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant helping cover peak power grid loads.

While Ukraine and Russia have struck each other’s energy infrastructure during the conflict, nuclear and hydropower sites have largely been spared, as damage to such facilities could trigger major environmental disasters.With Ukraine’s overall generating capacity reduced, Energoatom remains a major source of revenue.

Mindich has been accused of co-opting company executives in order to extract illicit profits for his criminal organization. He also allegedly oversaw a large money-laundering network used both to legalize stolen funds and to serve other criminal actors.

The scandal sent shockwaves through the Ukrainian government, as Mindich’s alleged ring involved several senior officials, including a former energy minister, his former deputy who later replaced him in a cabinet reshuffle, and former Deputy Prime Minister Aleksey Chernyshov.

Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andrey Yermak, was forced to resign over suspected links to Mindich andhas since been charged in a separate alleged money-laundering case connected to the financing of a luxury property development outside Kiev, reportedly owned by Yermak, Mindich, Chernyshov, and Zelensky.

The fugitive businessman’s other interests reportedly focused on the arms giant Fire Point. Leaked surveillance records suggest Minidich secretly ran the company, profiting from his influence on then-Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, who still retains a senior security position in the government.

Protectionism and complacency are undermining the bloc’s growth, Serbia’s president said after returning from China

Protectionism is pushing the EU toward economic decline, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has told Bloomberg, arguing that barriers to investment between Europe, China and the US are hurting growth.

Vucic made the remarks on Tuesday shortly after returning from Beijing, where he secured more than $1 billion in Chinese investment pledges for his country.

Protectionism is “killing, in the end, Europe,”and there are “too many obstacles”complicating investment flows, the Serbian president said in an interview with Bloomberg.

Vucic also warned that Europe has become complacent in the face of growing global competition. “We all live nicely. We don’t see what’s happening around us,” he said, adding that productivity would be “the toughest and the biggest issue” facing the continent.

His concerns echo warnings raised within the EU itself. In a 2024 report,former ECB President Mario Draghi warned that the bloc was falling behind the US and China in terms of productivity, innovation and growth, calling the challenge “existential.”

Vucic’s remarks come amid trade rows between the EU and both China and the US, including disputeswith Beijing over electric vehicle tariffs and subsidies, and with the US over tariffs, market access and industrial policy.

Under Vucic, Serbia has become one of China’s closest partners in Europe. Chinese President Xi Jinping has described bilateral ties as an “ironclad friendship,” while a free trade agreement between the two countries entered into force in 2024. The partnership has helped strengthen Serbia’s economy, one of Europe’s faster-growing in recent years, according to the IMF and World Bank.

Belgrade has also maintained ties with Russia, rejecting EU pressure to impose sanctions on Moscow and support Ukraine. Roughly 80% of Serbia’s natural gas imports come from Russia.

Unlike Serbia, the EU has sought to phase out Russian fossil fuel imports and replace them with alternative suppliers following the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, which contributed to an overall economic downturn.

Brussels has criticized Vucic’s close ties with both Beijing and Moscow,urging Serbia to make a “strategic choice” of direction.

Responding to criticism of his recent visits to Russia and China, Vucic accusedBrussels of trying to dictate Serbia’s diplomacy. “Next time, if I go somewhere else, they will say ‘don’t go there’,” he told Bloomberg, adding that his responsibility was to protect Serbia’s interests.

Vucic has insisted, however, that joining the EU remains Belgrade’s long-term objective.

Russian forces have carried out a large-scale missile and drone strike against military-related targets in Ukraine in response to terrorist attacks by Kiev, the Defense Ministry in Moscow has said.

The overnight raid focused on defense industry facilities in the capital, Kiev, parts of Zaporozhye and Kherson regions still under Ukraine’s control, as well as in Dnepropetrovsk, Poltava, Khmelnitsky, and Sumy regions, the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

Fuel and transport infrastructure facilities used by Ukrainian forces and military airfields were also hit, it added.

Land- and sea-based precision weapons, including hypersonic missiles and drones, were deployed during the attack, the ministry said.

“The objectives of the strike has been achieved. All designated targets were hit,” it stressed.

Multiple videos have been posted on social media, purporting to show explosions in various parts of Ukraine. Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko confirmed partial blackouts in several districts of the capital during the raid.

Moscow previously warned it would carry out “systematic and consistent strikes” on Ukraine’s military infrastructure, including drone production facilities, command posts, and “decision-making centers,” in response to a terrorist attack in Russia’s Lugansk People’s Republic on May 22.

Ukrainian forces struck a college dormitory in the town of Starobelsk in several waves of drone attacks late at night while students were asleep, killing 21 people, mostly teenage girls, and injuring 70 others.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday that the Ukrainian leadership had opened “a new chapter in its crime spree”with the attack on Starobelsk, adding that those responsible would face “well-deserved and inevitable punishment.”

Speaking to RT, American journalist John Varolihas defended Russia’s strikes on Ukrainian targets as “legitimate” and fully“allowed by international law,” arguing thatMoscow has “a right to dismantle any infrastructure that supports terrorism.” Varoli said “Russian punishment against the Kiev regime is going to continue” and “is going to intensify,” accusing Western nations of backing “a terrorist regime” in Ukraine.

Also fired was 60 Minutes correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi, the woman made infamous after she was caught deceptively editing video of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL). That was in 2021, and any credible news organization would’ve fired her then.

Anyway, Bilton held a meeting on Monday with the 60 Minutes staff, andaccording to numerous reports, Pelley used this meeting to crystallize everything wrong with the corporate mediaby way of his 1) breathtaking arrogance and lack of humility, and 2) refusal to accept any kind of change.

Even though Tanya Simon and her predecessor, Bill Owens (who quit in a snit last year)have turned 60 Minutes into a national laughingstockwith zero credibility, Pelley’s oblivious attitude is that everything should be allowed to continue on as it was. The reason for this stance isobvious: change is an admission that something was wrong, and a pompous ass like Scott Pelley lacks the maturity or humility to deal with it.

In a meeting held Monday, Pelley lashed out at Bilton and current CBS News management, according to multiple press reports, alleging that Bari Weiss, the CBS News Editor in Chief who orchestrated an overhaul of the program last week, is “murdering 60 Minutes.” Pelley also alleged that Weiss held “no qualifications for her job” and said Bilton has “slender qualifications for this job.”

Pelley also demanded to know why CBS News fired former Simon, Alfonsi and Vega, asking Bilton, “Why should we expect any of this is going to be any better?” Status reported that Bilton attempted to deflect the queries and wound up ending the meeting prematurely. Charles Forelle, a new CBS News senior editor, recently hired by Weiss from the Wall Street Journal, told Pelley several times he was being “rude,” according to Status, which reported the remarks based on an audio transcript of the meeting it obtained.

My two cents?Pelley either wants to quit or get fired, so he’s posing as the hero Standing Up For Capital “J” Journalism, and ensuring his “noble and brave stand” leaks before he announces he’s parted ways with CBS to spend more time with his Substack.

TheTrump administration is giving the American people what they want in the lead-up to the big 250th birthday celebration and is ignoring pride month— a once unruly, secular celebration beloved by the Biden administration and radical left.

Americans came to a breaking point during the Biden administration — specifically, in the summer of 2023, when the Biden administration went all in on “pride” month and Americans were horrified to see a topless transgender activist at the White House pride event, while corporate queering ran amok.The Biden administration made sure to let everyone know that it valued “pride” and did so every year, making a huge deal of it on social media. The Department of Education, Department of Labor, Department of Transportation, Department of Agriculture, HHS, and more under Biden proudly celebrated, deeming opposition “bigotry” and “hatred.”

Almost all of them posted the “progress pride” flag — which includes extra colors for minorities and transgender individuals — on social media and said something about “pride.” Not only that, but federal agencies would also often change their profile picture to go with the theme of pride month, making it virtually inescapable.Americans were to acknowledge it, and whether they liked it or not the standard had been set.

Millions of Americans came to dread the summer celebration of “pride” and the agenda pushed onto their children under the Biden administration.

But this year, for the second year in a row, President Trump gave the American people what they wanted — what they voted for. No pride celebration. No proclamation demonizing parents against indoctrinating children. No lengthy diatribes. No secular agenda. The same federal agencies under the leadership of Biden — that celebrated the month — posted nothing about “pride” on June 1 under the leadership of President Trump.

This is a significant turn from what Americans experienced under Biden, who even addressed “transgender children” in his White House LGBTQI+ proclamation in 2024.

TheTrump administration’s decision to give the people what they voted for has influenced retailers too.Many remember the transgender summer of 2023, where many crossed the line, offering pride apparel — even transgender apparel — for children.Target was one of the worst offenders, as many items were labeled as “thoughtfully fit” for “multiple” gender expressions.

Once again, that is not the case this year, as retailers appear to be toning down their offerings yet again. Target, for example, does not even appear to be offering pride-themed items for children.

Trump made clear early on his second administration that protecting children against this was a top priority.

Doug Ellin, creator of the popular HBO series, Entourage, is voting for Spenser Pratt for L.A. Mayor not because Spenser is necessarily a savior, but because sitting Mayor Karen Bass was such a tremendously dangerous failure and he feels it is long past time for a change of leadership.

Ellin appeared on Billy Bush’s Hot Mics podcast this week and ripped L.A. Mayor Bass to pieces while urging Los Angeleans to vote for Spenser Pratt.

As the pair began to talk about the election, Bush asked Ellin if he feared for his career in Hollywood for advocating for Pratt. Ellin replied that he simply didn’t care what Hollywood thought about his support of Pratt because he has children and his priority with his vote is to choose the person who will be better at making L.A. safe for his kids. And Karen Bass is not that candidate.

“You know, one of the reasons I worked so hard for so many years was to give my children a better life,” Ellin said. ” So all I care about is keeping them safe and giving them opportunities for the future. So whatever anybody thinks about what I have to say is meaningless to me.”

Still, Ellin added that even those liberal people “who will fight you if you say you like Donald Trump” are “fed up with what’s going on in L.A.”

Ellin went on to say that Karen Bass, Gavin Newsom, and the Democrat status quo have destroyed Los Angeles.

“So [Donald Trump] has nothing to do with anything I’m talking about. I am not a Donald Trump fan. I did not vote for him,” Ellin explained. “Um, and I’m not going to sit here and tell you Spencer Pratt can save LA. What I can tell you is the status quo is destroying it and we need to try something different.”

Both Bush and Ellin then ripped Karen Bass for flying off to Ghana, Africa, just as the winds and threats of fire were hitting.

“She went to Ghana for the inauguration of the president of Ghana,” Bush said. And Ellin replied, “I don’t know how anyone could say anything else, but that should be disqualifying to ever be in public office again. And I don’t know what the mayor of Los Angeles has to be in Ghana for ever during her time here. And again, I’m not going to change the political system, but I don’t think local mayors should be traveling out of the country while they’re being paid by us.”

Bush remind listeners that Bass even campaigned for office ahead of her first term promising never to go overseas while serving as mayor of L.A.

“Don’t forget part of her election promises part of when she was campaigning, she promised, I will never leave the country. I will always and she left the country five times in the first term,” an exasperated Bush said.

Bush also pointed out that Karen Bass lied during the recent debate with Pratt when she said the winds were too strong for water-dropping helicopters early in the disaster. Pratt disagreed and said the winds were below 40 MPH, but Bass said Pratt was lying.

“Spencer Pratt brought up in the debate that happened on May 5th or May 6th. He said, ‘Look, the winds on the first two days were below 40 miles an hour right off the bat,’ so we could have gotten [the helicopters]. She said, ‘Oh, no, they weren’t. They were over a 100. He’s lying.’ And this, fact check, they were under 40 miles an hour,” Bush said. “So you absolutely could have gotten water out of the Palisades Reservoir with your own choppers instead of having to go fly over to Encino and grab them and get them over. Totally ill-prepared.”

Bush also slammed Bass for leaving for Africa just as the disaster was gearing up and leaving her useless deputy mayor— Brian K. William who Bush said was on house arrest for making a bomb threat at the time — thereby leaving “nobody” in charge during the destructive fires.

Bush also noted that Bass has far more problems than just her failed leadership during the Palisades Fire. “And then the list of, you know, uh of you know, police shortages and homelessness and the missing $2 billion and uh all the NGO fraud, it goes on forever. the safety in the streets, the the the drug addiction problem, the potholes, the it’s the infrastructure. It goes on and on and on. I’m so worried, Doug, that if Caruso can’t do it, and somehow Spencer can’t do it, is it totally unfixable?”

Ellin then slammed Bass and Gavin Newsom for telling voters for years that there are no problems — no homelessness issues, no crime problems— but now, just when they want to get re-elected, suddenly they are admitting there are problems and arenow claiming they have solutions. But they have none, and it’s time for a change, he exclaimed.

“They’ve told us there is no problem for years. So, now they want to win again, and we have to just stand up and try to do something else,” Ellin said of Bass and Newsom. “And do I wish Rick Caruso was running again? Of course I do.But right now, the person who is speaking to me, who is saying the things that I want to hear, um, is Spencer Pratt. Then I have to pray he can implement those things, you know, which is very difficult here.”

As important as Nvidia has become to the tech industry, its entire run-up in recent years has been tied to the data center. Now the chipmaker is going after the PC market, and Wall Street is recognizing the threat it poses.

During a keynote address at Taiwan’s Computex conference on Monday, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said his company, along with Microsoft, is going to “reinvent the PC.” Nvidia’s plan to build system-on-chips, or SoCs, for PCssent shares of Advanced Micro Devices, Intel and Qualcomm downward.

It’s the latest sign of Nvidia moving beyond the data center for artificial intelligence and to theso-called edge, where smaller devices like phones or computers run advanced AI models on their installed chips without tapping the cloud.

“Nvidia getting into the space is Jensen recognizingthat he wants to own every bit of the AI stack in some shape,” said IDC analyst Tom Mainelli.

While makers of PC central processing units, or CPUs, and mobile phone chips sank on Monday, Nvidia’s stock popped more than 6%. With a market cap of about $5.4 trillion, Nvidia is worth more than any company on the planet, and is almost $1 trillion above its closest U.S. peer.

Nvidia is officially entering the PC market with a chip called RTX Spark, which is a joint effort with Taiwan’s MediaTek. The RTX Spark, which Huang also referred to as the N1X, debuts later this year on a fresh line of Windows PCs from Microsoft, Dell, HP, ASUS, Lenovo and MSI

“This reinvention of the computer is as big of a deal as the reinvention of the phone into what we now know as the smartphone,” Huang said, pointing to the fact agentic AI will run across all new computers.

Nvidia has a major balance sheet advantage and has all the momentum in the world. But that doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy to crack a market that has historically been controlled by the duopoly of Intel and AMD. Additionally, Qualcomm has introduced new SoCs for Windows laptops in the past two years, and Apple

, which has about 9% of the PC market, started making its own processors in 2020.

Nvidia’s rise has been fueled by selling systems based around the data center graphics processing unit, or GPU, which is better suited for running cutting-edge AI modelswith unlimited power, cooling and space. As chips become powerful enough to perform AI at the edge, Nvidia is racing to get there.

“All AI computing, regardless where it is, that’s the prize,” said chip analyst Patrick Moorhead. “Jensen is not going to be happy if they just get data center or data center and auto. They want everything on the edge.”….

Florida sues OpenAI, Sam Altman, in first-of-its-kind lawsuit over violent incidents

OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, weresued by the Florida attorney general on Monday, in a first-of-its-kind state litigation effort over ChatGPT’s alleged links to a number of violent incidents.

The lawsuit accuses OpenAI oflooking the other way on safety concernsas it has sought to prioritize winning “the AI arms race and amass large fortunes.”

“Today, we announced the first-in-the-nation state-led lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman,” said Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier. “OpenAI and Altman ignored internal and external safety warnings, put children at great risk, and allowed a dangerous product to reach millions of Floridians.”

“Because of Defendants’ misrepresentations about ChatGPT and their careless introduction of ChatGPT to Florida and the world, mass shooters have been aided and abetted in deadly rampages, vulnerable people have been encouraged into suicide, professionals have suffered public humiliation, users have lost critical thinking skills, and minors have become addicted to atool that feigns human compassion to collect their data with no parental oversight,” the 83-page lawsuitclaims.

The Florida attorney general’s office launched a criminal investigationinto the company in April. That probe sought to determine what role ChatGPT may have played in a mass shooting that took place last year at Florida State University.Prior to the attack, the shooter is alleged to have consulted the chatbot. OpenAI has also been sued in a civil suit by the family of one of the victims of that shooting.

OpenAI has previously denied responsibility for the Florida shooting. “Last year’s mass shooting at Florida State University was a tragedy, but ChatGPT is not responsible for this terrible crime,” an OpenAI spokesperson previously told NBC News. TechCrunch reached out to OpenAI for comment.

OpenAI just concluded a different legal case involving former co-founder Elon Musk, who sued the company in 2024, accusing it of having betrayed its original mission to help humanity by converting the organization into a for-profit business. The case concluded after the jury swiftly decided that Musk had waited too long to file the case and that the statute of limitations had passed.

This is only the latest legal case that has attempted to link ChatGPT to violent deaths. Last year, OpenAI was sued by the parents of Adam Raine, a California teen who took his own life after discussing suicide with the chatbot. In that case, ChatGPT allegedly offered “technical specifications” for various suicide methods, despite also referring him to mental health resources.Other lawsuits — including ones alleging the chatbot’s culpability in suicides, stalking, and murder — are ongoing.

Sometimes karma has a funny way of sorting things out, and this latest asylum case out of Indiana is a perfect example.

As you know, the Biden administration didn’t just open the border to millions of illegal aliens. It also handed out asylum protections to countless migrants whose claims were never properly scrutinized.

One man from Mauritania claimed he needed asylum in the United Statesbecause he was gay and feared persecution in his country, where it’s illegal.

You may be wondering what and where Mauritania is. It’s a country in North Africa.

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is a sovereign country in Northwest Africa. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Western Sahara to the north and northwest, Algeria to the northeast, Mali to the east and southeast, and Senegal to the southwest.

Of course, the Biden admin accepted the claim, probably with few or no questions asked. He was allowed to remain in America and eventually settled in Indiana, married a woman, and landed a job as a prison guard, thanks to his new father-in-law.

But when federal authorities discovered that his asylum story didn’t add up, his scheme fell apart.

Now he’s under arrest and facing deportation.

This is yet another example of someone successfully gaming our system. Joe Biden was way more interested in processing claims and shoving people through the line as fast as possible. Thankfully, this time the scam didn’t last forever.

This story is great: During the Biden admin a migrant came all the way to the U.S. from Mauritania, and was immediately allowed in by claimig he needed asylum for being gay.

He moved to Indiana, married the (female) daughter of a sheriff, and got a job as a prison guard from his father-in-law.

But now the Trump Admin has swooped in, pointed out that since he’s not gay his asylum claim is clearly fraudulent, and has arrested him for deportation.

This is Mr. Habib’s father-in-law, who got him a job in the prison system.

He claims Mr. Habib’s papers and documents were all in order when he was run through the system.

Jay County Sheriff Larry Ray Newton confirmed Habib’s employment to the outlet, saying he served as an unarmed correctional officer after presenting employment authorization documents that cleared the hiring process. According to county officials cited by WIBC, Habib also passed the federal E-Verify employment-authorization check during onboarding.

It’s unclear exactly how Mr. Habib’s alleged scam was uncovered, but once authorities caught on, they wasted no time rounding him up.

EXCLUSIVE: Federal officials on Sunday revealed to Fox News Digital that immigration agents arrested a suspected illegal immigrant who allegedly entered the United States under a “fraudulent” asylum claim before later becoming employed as a taxpayer-funded corrections officer in Portland, Indiana.

The detainee, identified as Selah Dine Habib, a native of Mauritania in northwest Africa, was arrested on May 21 after being released into the U.S. by the Biden administration around 2023, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Habib claimed to be homosexual on a pending asylum application, DHS alleged, adding that investigators later discovered he had married a woman after entering the country.

According to local outlet WIBC, which first reported the case, the woman was the daughter of the county sheriff whose office later employed Habib as a correctional officer at the county jail.

Habib’s case is the perfect example of how badly the Biden system crashed and burned. It’s all about catch and release, weak (no) vetting, and a government wanting to accept paperwork as “fact,” instead of using basic common sense and a bit of investigative work.

Mr. Habib is now in custody at the Clay County Jail detention facility in Brazil, Indiana, awaiting his ticket back home to North Africa.

The border matters, obviously. But the bigger immigration fight always went way deeper than the border.

It’s no secret that our entire immigration machine, legal or otherwise is a mess. For starters, if an illegal was caught quickly at the border, there was at least a chance he’d be removed right away. But once he made it into a sanctuary community, found work, got all his freebies and benefits, or built a life within our endless loopholes, the odds of actually being caught and removed dropped dramatically.

That’s how rigged our system became. Everyone and their brother figured out the playbook: get in, stay long enough, and blend in.

But now that’s changing.

The good news is that President Trump isn’t just focusing on removing Biden’s illegals. He’s going deeper. His team is now reaching those long-term illegals who used the “playbook” to disappear into communities, and thought nobody would make them leave. And the reason why this news is such a big white pill, is because mass deportation won’t work if we’re only deporting the newest illegals. The key difference is who is being removed. Trump’s removals now include a lot more long-term illegal aliens than any other presidents.

This is a really big deal because it goes after one of the biggest loopholes at the center of the entire rigged immigration scam.

Trump’s goal is to finally reach the people who made it past the first line of defense and then spent years burrowing deep, so the system would protect them.

So, according to WAPO, that means if the median deportee has been here for years, Trump’s enforcement is now moving beyond border and into the interior, where the real fight has been waiting.

And deportations are only one part of the story.

The Trump admin is also going after the incentives that make illegals comfy. Things like jobs, benefits, work permits, loans, subsidies, housing, and the entire soft-amnesty machine that tells foreigners they should break the law and slither into America.
