This discussion blurs the line between two distinct types of conflict. There is "man vs man" conflict in which people attempt to obtain a position of priority within human civilization, then there is "man vs nature" conflict in which people attempt to meet the challenges that humanity as a whole faces in the struggle for survival. A large problem we face is that those who prioritize fighting against others to secure personal position tend to excel at that type of conflict, yet they tend not to be the best people to hold positions of authority because they don't prioritize the big picture problems that humanity as a whole faces.
