Bill Maher Says Artists Pulling Out Of ‘America 250’ Makes It Look Like Democrats ‘Don’t Really Love America’ | The Daily Caller

Mark TanosJune 07, 2026 12:37 PM

Bill Maher scolded the musicians who walked away from a Trump-backed concert honoring America’s 250th birthday, saying their exit hands Democrats a bad look.

The comedian spent part of his Friday monologue on the topic during the June 5 broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time.” “They all pulled out,” Maher said, according to the New York Post. “This is a question about what looks best for the Democrats, because I don’t think that looks good. It looks like you are just what people say about you, you don’t really love America. It looks [like] you think Trump is more important than the country itself.”

Maher argued the walkout backfired and handed the spotlight entirely to the president. “Now it’s just a big MAGA rally, this whole thing,” he said. “Now it’s Trump and Lee Greenwood. Wouldn’t it have been better to play this gig? Can’t we all just celebrate America itself and leave Trump out of it?”

Six of the original nine acts abandoned the Great American State Fair lineup after the bill was revealed, including The Commodores, Morris Day and the Time, Young MC and others, with several saying they had been misled about the event’s political ties, according to CNN.

Country singer Martina McBride was among the first to step away. “I was presented with an opportunity to perform at a nonpartisan event but that turned out to be misleading,” she wrote on Instagram.

Poison frontman Bret Michaels offered a similar account. “Unfortunately, what was presented to us as a celebration of our country has evolved into something much more divisive than what I agreed to be a part of,” he wrote on Instagram.

Freedom 250, the organization behind the festival, has insisted the celebration remains nonpartisan, and Trump agreed to headline the opening ceremony on June 24 after the departures, according to ABC News.

Trump rolled out his own roster on Truth Social, naming Greenwood to open with “God Bless the U.S.A.” and touting tenor Christopher Macchio.

US Army preparing for first executions in 65 years – ABC News

The plan reportedly calls for the military’s four death-row inmates to be executed within 150 days of presidential approval

Published 8 Jun, 2026 04:42

The US Army is preparing to carry out its first executions of death-row service members since 1961 if President Donald Trump orders them, ABC News reports, citing an internal planning document.

Trump has advocated wider application of the death penalty as a deterrent against violent crime.

ABC News reported on Saturday that the plan – known as Operation Resolute Justice – was circulated internally in February and requires the military to be ready to carry out executions “no later than 150 days from the date of presidential approval of the death sentences.”

The preparations reportedly include reviewing execution procedures and transferring the four death-row inmates from the US Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas to the federal execution facility in Terre Haute, Indiana in coordination with the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Army spokesperson Cynthia Smith downplayed the preparations as a “standard component of our continued planning,” noting that Trump has yet to issue a specific order, as quoted by the publication.

Last September, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said he would seek presidential approval for the execution of Nidal Hasan. The former US Army major and physician was sentenced to death for the 2009 Fort Hood mass shooting that left 13 people dead and 32 wounded.

The other three army death-row inmates include Sergeant Hasan Akbar, former army cook Ronald Gray, and former master sergeant Timothy Hennis, all of whom were convicted on multiple counts of premeditated murder.

During his first term in office, the Trump administration oversaw 13 federal executions – more than in any other presidential term in modern history.

Shortly after returning to office in 2025, Trump revoked a moratorium on federal executions imposed by his predecessor, Joe Biden, in 2021.

Trump eyeing purchase of key British colonial outpost – Telegraph

The US president earlier called the UK’s plan to hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius “an act of great stupidity”

Published 8 Jun, 2026 09:34 |

The US is weighing a plan to purchase the Chagos Islands directly from Mauritiusin a bid to sideline the UK over the future of a crucial military base in the Indian Ocean, The Telegraph reported on Sunday.

The Chagos Islands are home to Diego Garcia, a joint UK-US military base regarded as one of the most important American installations outside the continental US.The facility hosts roughly 2,500 US military personnel and supports B-2 bomber deployments, operations against Houthi targets in Yemen, and has been used in strikes on Iran.

While the Chagos Islands are currently controlled by the UK, London last year approved a plan to hand them over to Mauritius while signing a 99-year lease on the base. The UK’s hand was essentially forced by a decades-long colonial sovereignty dispute, with the International Court of Justice ruling in 2019 that the UK’s 1965 separation of the islands from Mauritius was unlawfuland in violation of the right to self-determination.

While US President Donald Trump initially supported the plan, in January he declared thedeal “an act of great stupidity” and a threat to national security, while warning that China and Russia “have noticed this act of total weakness•.” The UK subsequently put the deal on hold, pending negotiations with the US.

Now,“US officials have drawn up a [purchase] proposal to bypass Britain and make its own deal to take control of Diego Garcia,” according to the Telegraph. The plan is among several options being discussed within the Trump administration and caught the attention of US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who presented it to Trump, the report says.

Should the US approve the plan, the UK would first have to hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, and then Washington would negotiate the purchase with the Mauritians. The move would thus leave Britain as a bystander in a dispute over territory it has held for over two centuries.

The Mauritian government said, as cited by Reuters, that it had “taken note of the information reported by The Telegraph” but “has not received any official proposal” from the US. It also stressed that the republic’s sovereignty over the Chagos Archipelago is “non-negotiable.”

The report comes after Trump renewed talk of acquiring Greenland from Denmark and has repeatedly referred to Canada as the “51st state,” moves that put additional strain on Washington’s already uneasy relations with its traditional allies.

Pentagon boosts Israeli spying threat to ‘critical’ – media

This comes amid growing tensions between the US and Israel over the conflicts in the Middle East

Published 6 Jun, 2026 22:01 |

The Pentagon’s Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) has elevated the threat posed by Israeli espionage to the highest level as tensions over Iran and Lebanon grow, NBC News and the New York Times reported on Saturday.

The assessment, which was circulated internally in recent weeks, includes a seven-page document and a chart rating Israel’s human and technical intelligence-gathering capabilities as “critical,” according to NBC.

Theofficials targeted included President Donald Trump’s top negotiatorin talks with Iran,Steve Witkoff, the Pentagon’s top policy official Elbridge Colby, and one of his main deputies, Michael DiMino, according to the NYT.

US counterintelligence officials areincreasingly concerned about Israeli spying activities targeting the US, including efforts to gain insight into the Trump administration’s deliberationson Iran and Lebanon, both NBC and the NYT wrote, citing sources. The assessmentalso reportedly cites several specific incidents, although the sources declined to identify them.

The aggressiveness with which Israeli spy services have surveilled top US officials since the start of Trump’s second term has been “unhinged,” the NYT cited a senior official as saying.

While espionage between allies is common, the report saidIsrael’s recent activities have gone beyond what would normally be expected, leading to the heightened threat assessment.

The Pentagon declined to comment.A White House official told NBC that the “entire story is false,” while a spokesperson for theIsraeli Embassy in Washington dismissed the report as “politically motivated” and insistedthat Israeli intelligence efforts “are aimed at its enemies, not its allies.”

This comes amid growing friction between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister BenjaminNetanyahu over Iran and Israel’s military operations in Lebanon.

Despite the fragile US-Iran ceasefirereached in early April and extended on May 8, negotiations on a broader deal remain deadlocked over Iran’s nuclear program, with Israel publicly questioning Trump’s diplomatic push and Netanyahu advocating renewed military action.

At thesame time, Israel has intensified operations in Lebanon, where it launched a military operation in Marchagainst the Iranian-aligned Hezbollah movement. Earlier this week, Trump acknowledged reports that he called Netanyahu “f**king crazy” during a heated phone conversation over Israel’s actions in Lebanon.

“I did,” Trump said when asked about the exchange on the New York Post’s ‘Pod Force One’ podcast. “I was a little bit perturbed at his constantly fighting with Lebanon.”

Previous reports suggest that Trump accused Netanyahu of jeopardizing US negotiations with Iran by continuing the operation in Lebanon.

Trump said on Monday that both the Israeli leader and Hezbollah had agreed to a truce, and theUS State Department announced on Wednesday that Israel and Lebanon had agreed to implement a ceasefire contingent on “a complete cessation” of Hezbollah attacksand the withdrawal of fighters from the South Litani Sector.

Despite the announcements, hostilities continued this week, with Israeli strikes in southern and eastern Lebanon killing and injuring dozens of civilians on Thursday, according to Lebanese health authorities.Iran previously said it would not agree to a permanent settlement with the US unless the deal also addresses Lebanon, and warned it would abandon negotiations if Israeli strikes continue.

None of this is questionable based on Israel’s attacks on the US for more than 3/4’s of a century.

NASA crew takes cover while Russian cosmonauts fix ISS leak

Roscosmos says the pressure loss poses no danger to the crew or station systems, with repairs already underway

Published 6 Jun, 2026 00:56

NASA temporarily moved its astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) into an evacuation spacecraft on Friday after an air leak was detected in one of the modules, while Russian cosmonauts worked to repair it.

According to NASA spokeswoman Bethany Stevens, “out of an abundance of caution,”members of the agency’s Crew-12 mission were instructed to don their spacesuits and take shelter inside a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft – a vessel used for transport missions to and from the ISS – while repairs were carried out.

Russian space corporation Roscosmos said that two potential leak sites had been identified during routine pressure checks inside the transfer chamber of the Zvezda service module, known as PrK, a key component of the station. One was quickly fixed using a special sealant, while preparations began to repair the second site in the conical section of the compartment.

Stevens said that NASA and Roscosmos have long monitored cracks in the Zvezda module and have been working together to determine the cause of recurring pressure losses. She added that Roscosmos decided to undertake an extensive repair operation after the latest leak was detected. Reuters, citing a senior NASA official, reported that the leak rate had doubled from roughly half a kilogram of air per day to nearly a kilogram earlier this week.

Roscosmos stressed that the situation posed no threat to either the crew or the station’s onboard systems, adding that pressure aboard the ISS remained stable and within normal operating parameters.

In a follow-up post, Stevens said that Roscosmos had paused work on the remaining leak while specialists analyzed additional measurements and data. Following the decision, NASA instructed its astronauts to leave the Dragon spacecraft and resume normal operations aboard the station.

Launched in 1998, the ISS is operated by five space agencies from Russia, the US, Europe, Japan, and Canada, with day-to-day operations coordinated by NASA and Roscosmos. Seven crew members are currently aboard the station, including Russian cosmonauts Sergey Mikaev, Sergey Kud-Sverchkov, and Andrey Fedyaev; NASA astronauts Chris Williams, Jessica Meir, and Jack Hathaway; and European Space Agency astronaut Sophie Adenot.

Entire UK attack submarine fleet unfit for service – media

British commanders reportedly fear the navy looks “toothless” in the face of a supposed Russian threat

Published 8 Jun, 2026 11:46

Britain’s entire available fleet of nuclear-powered attack submarines is stuck in port awaiting maintenance and repairs, leaving the Royal Navy without a deployable hunter-killer boat, UK media have reported.

All five of the Royal Navy’s operational Astute-class attack submarines are currently unavailable, while a sixth boat, although commissioned into the fleet, is not yet ready for deployment, The Telegraph and Daily Mail said over the weekend, citing naval sources.

The Astute-class submarines are designed to track and deter enemy submarines, and escort the UK’s aircraft carriers and Vanguard-class vessels carrying Trident nuclear missiles. The boats are nuclear-powered and armed with Spearfish torpedoes and Tomahawk cruise missiles.

Former nuclear submarine captain Commander Ryan Ramsey told The Telegraph the situation is a “serious wake-up call,” arguing that Britain now looks “toothless” in the face of supposed Russian aggression. Moscow has repeatedly dismissed claims it poses a threat to Europe.

Lord West, a former First Sea Lord and Labour security minister, described the situation as “unacceptable” and “very worrying,” saying attack submarines are essential for protecting Britain’s nuclear deterrent and “terrifying the Russians.”

Issues with the navy’s submarine fleet were previously reported back in 2023, with The Mail stating at the time that all of Britain’s available nuclear attack submarines were confined to port, citing maintenance delays, shortages of naval engineers, and a lack of dry-dock capacity.

Last week, The Mail also reported that Britain’s £3.5 billion ($4.6 billion) flagship HMS Prince of Wales aircraft carrier had broken down once again and was forced into port in Norway for repairs.

The reports come as British officials have continued to cite a supposed threat from Russia, claiming it is “probing, challenging, testing our defenses.” The UK’s chief of the defense staff, Sir Richard Knighton, stated to the BBC last week that Britain faces its most dangerous period since the Cold War.

Russia, however, has consistently dismissed claims that it is preparing to attack NATO or European countries unless attacked first=. President Vladimir Putin has rejected such warnings as “delusions” and “provocations” being used to scare European populations and justify increased military budgets, while Russian officials have accused the West of jeopardizing global security through “reckless militarization.”

Nevertheless, European officials have openly discussed preparing for a possible direct confrontation with Russia, with Belgian and French officials warning of a possible “major war” by 2030.

Watch: Steven Spielberg Says ‘Disclosure Day’ Will Leave Christians Questioning Their Faith in God(I hate this guy)

Simon Kent8 Jun 2026

Half a century after Steven Spielberg challenged audiences to think about what lies beyond the starry canopy that defines our universe in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, the director is again challenging accepted precepts of faith and singular belief in a supreme being.

His new film Disclosure Day sees him revisit the possibility of aliens: “I absolutely think that they have been here, and they are here,” he outlined in an interview with CBS News.

First he outlined the themes behind the movie and the answers it (possibly) posed to questions of life, faith and mortality.

Steven Spielberg attends the “Disclosure Day” Paris photocall at Shangri-La Hotel Paris on June 01, 2026 in Paris, France. (Photo by Pierre Mouton/Getty Images for Universal Pictures)

“‘Disclosure Day’ is about how, if somebody had the power and if somebody had possession of the entire archive of visual evidence of what’s been happening for the last 80 years, what would happen if they decided to do a data dump across the entire world all at once?” Spielberg said, adding it is as much a “chase” movie as it is a reflection on our very being.

“And the people who are trying to stop that data dump from happening, that is basically the core of this chase movie.”

Then he dived more deeply into God – any God – which acts as a supreme being above and beyond us all. He mused:

The movie takes the position of the believers, or the curious, the ones that have been deeply affected by this. The Emily Blunt character (Margaret Fairchild), you know, something has happened to her. She has no idea what it is. She has to try to understand why this has upended her life.

And the movie also takes the position of the church. What does this do to the fundamental beliefs that many of us have? Is God our God only on this planet? Or is God a god for every system where there’s civilization and intelligent life, and even developing life?

Spielberg feels Christians will find themselves asking of their faith and their beliefs as the movie takes the absolute position of the Church.

He says the questions need answers or will Christians simply see the work as a piece of entertainment predicated on Hollywood’s self-serving need to make money while touching on personal fears.

Disclosure Day is the 79-year-old’s first summer movie in a decade.

As Breitbart News previously noted, the movie stars Josh O’Connor as a cybersecurity whistle-blower with government evidence, long suppressed, chronicling a history of alien encounters.

Guiding him in his escape from a corporate executive (Colin Firth) trying to keep it all under wraps is the disclosure movement’s leader (Colman Domingo). Meanwhile, a meteorologist named Margaret Fairchild (Emily Blunt) begins having a mysterious epiphany.

Disclosure Day is set to hit theaters June 12. The film also stars Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, Wyatt Russell and Henry Lloyd-Hughes.

Richard Gere Says He’s ‘Deeply Ashamed’ That Trump Admin Is Calling Migrants ‘Aliens’ During Speech in Germany

I’m deeply ashamed Gere is a fucking asshole!

Richard Gere went to Germany to attack the United States’ crackdown on illegal immigration. “Did you ever imagine that someone as crazy as this would become President of the United States?” the actor asked an audience of foreigners on Thursday.

“I think the term I was actually given today — apparently the U.S. government is calling aliens,” Gere said at the launch of a joint migration initiative by the Hertie School Centre for Fundamental Rights and The Gere Foundation in Berlin, Germany, according to a report by The Hill.

Starmer Cries Foreign Interference as JD Vance Warns of Death of a Civilisation and ‘Mass Invasion of Migrants’

(Big Baby Starmer tried to interfere in Trump in Hormuz. He’s miserable creature of the swamp)

Vice President JD Vance has spoken out against “the politics of self-hatred and the mass invasion of migrants” in the United Kingdom after the brutal death of student Henry Nowak, the second U.S. intervention on “civilisational decline” in Britain in 24 hours.

British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer attempted to kick back against the President Donald Trump Administration and American concern for the country’s descent into chaos on Friday night, characterising comments from Washington as political interference and even an attempt to “stir up division on our streets”. U.S. Vice President JD Vance made one of the present Trump Administration’s most strident interventions on the general direction of British society of this presidency yet, expressing the only and proper response to the death of student Henry Nowak — who bled to death after being stabbed but was handcuffed by police as he died because his killer filed a false racism report — is “righteous anger”.

Picking up on the theme of civilisational decline expressed by the U.S. State Department the previous evening, Vice President Vance wrote of events in the United Kingdom:

UK Police Charge Six More with Violent Disorder at Henry Nowak Protest

LONDON (AP) – British police said Saturday that six more people have been charged with violent disorder at a protest over the stabbing death of a university student who was handcuffed by officers as he lay dying.WTF??

Police were pelted with chairs, cans, rocks and flares on Tuesday by some of the hundreds of people attending a protest in the English southern coastal city of Southampton, where 18-year-old Henry Nowak was killed in December.

Many in Britain and beyond were angered by police body-worn video showing Nowak being handcuffed moments before he became unconscious and subsequently died.

Nowak’s death has spurred heated debates about policing, race and knife crime in the U.K. Nowak’s killer, Vickrum Digwa, who is Sikh, falsely claimed to police that he was the victim of a racist assault by Nowak, who was white. When police officers arrived, they initially treated the wounded man as a suspect before noticing his injury and trying to resuscitate him.

Digwa, 23, was convicted of murder for stabbing Nowak with a Sikh dagger and sentenced this week to life in prison with a minimum 21-year term. But the case has been seized on by anti-immigration activists and politicians, who claim there is bias against white people in the justice system.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has called the street violence in reaction to the case “disgraceful and completely unacceptable. Authorities have urged the public to heed a call by Nowak’s family not to use his death to stir up violence and disorder.

PRISTINA, Kosovo (AP) – Kosovo will hold its third parliamentary election in 18 months this weekend as frustration grows over a continued political impasse in the small Balkan country that is aspiring to move closer to the European Union and NATO.

The early parliamentary vote on Sunday was scheduled after Kosovo’s main political parties failed to agree by a March deadline on who should replace former President Vjosa Osmani.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s center-left Vetevendosje party has held a clear parliamentary majority since the early election in December. But the president in Kosovo is appointed by at least 80 lawmakers in the 120-member Parliament, a majority that neither Kurti nor the opposition could muster.

While the key players blamed each other for the crisis, theirinability to reach a compromise has fueled disappointment among Kosovo’s around 2 million voters, who want the government to focus on the economy and living standards instead.

Vlora Kryeziu, a businessperson from the capital, Pristina, laments that “the same scenario is being repeated.”

“We will for sure have the same result,” Kryeziu, 52, said. “As a citizen, I have a lot of dissatisfaction, and I think that we as a society are not doing enough to change these things.”

The first inconclusive election in February 2025 left the country without a functioning government for much of last year, forcing a second election in December.

Kosovo is among the youngest and poorest countries in Europe. The predominantly ethnic Albanian nation declared independence from Serbia in 2008 following a 1998-99 war that ended in a NATO bombing that forced Serbia to withdraw.

Kosovo has been recognized by the United States and most EU countries but not by Serbia and its allies Russia and China. Pristina and Belgrade have been told they must mend relations to move forward with their EU membership bids.

European Council President Antonio Costa this week urged Kosovo to end the political stalemate and unite over the goal of EU integration.

“The European Union can support Kosovo, but it cannot do Kosovo´s own homework,” he said in Pristina. “Kosovo needs strong, stable and functioning institutions capable of delivering reforms and seizing the opportunities the European Union offers.”

Kurti has urged voters to give him another chance at Sunday’s ballot. He accused the opposition parties of creating an “artificial crisis” and forcing repeated elections despite “the strong and clear will of the people.”

Two opposition parties, the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Democratic League of Kosovo, in turn have accused Kurti of seeking to impose complete control over all political institutions in the country.

Osmani, the former president, is now running on the LDK party list against Kurti, her former ally, after he refused to back her for a second term in office. She said at the closing rally in Pristina on Friday that Kurti’s policies have “built walls between people and fueled division.”

“We have seen politics that has no other vision than complete control,” Osmani said.

Political analyst Artan Muhaxhiri still does not expect a “tectonic change” compared to the previous election, when Kurti’s party won more than 50% of votes.

The political deadlock will also resume, Muhaxhiri predicted, as “there are no indications that political leaders are willing to change their actual stances and narrow the existing gap.”

The prolonged crisis already has affected Kosovo’s economy that has been hit hard with the global energy crisis and rising fuel prices. The institutional vacuum also has delayed access to the EU and other international funds available for the country.
