‘UNCONTROLLED IMMIGRATION NEEDS TO END’ DUP leader issues warning after Belfast knife attack
DUP leader Gavin Robinson has delivered a powerful response to the attempted murder in north Belfast, describing the attack as “medieval” and warning that “uncontrolled immigration needs to end”.
Speaking in the House of Commons, Robinson referred to the “systematic mutilation and attempted slaughter” of a Belfast citizen and praised the bravery of the man who intervened with a hurl to help save the victim’s life. He also warned that community cohesion was “on the precipice” and called for honesty, openness and truth following the shocking attack.
Robinson questioned Northern Ireland Secretary Hilary Benn over immigration, public safety and the suspect’s reported visa status. He argued that anyone convicted of such a crime after abusing the privilege of living in the UK should be deported, while Benn stressed that the police investigation and criminal justice process must be allowed to take place.
The victim remains in a serious condition following the knife attack in the Kinnaird Avenue area of north Belfast. The PSNI investigation remains ongoing as political leaders appeal for calm and urge the public not to allow the incident to trigger further disorder.
