A plant manager in Abbeville County, South Carolina, says his facility is now a ghost town after ICE moved in.
"When you look around and there's nobody there, it's dead," he told Fox Carolina. "We went from having a hundred employees working in there to… we might have had 24 there today. It's sad!"
The manager described the shock of the operation:
"Never seen nothing like that in my life. That's the only time I've ever had a gun pointed at me. I didn't know what was going on and heard people screaming. So I walk into the machine shop and there is 50, 60 agents."
He recounted one tense moment when someone pointed at him and said, "You are putting those cuffs on." The manager replied, "Are you gonna shoot me?" and stuck his hands out.
According to the report, illegal immigrant women tried to hide by climbing into the roof rafters. In all, 48 illegal immigrants were detained. Two American employers now face charges for stealing the identities of real Americans to forge work documents for the illegal workers.
Businesses that built their workforce on illegal labor and document fraud are learning there are consequences.
