In June 2026, a jury found Grossman and Erickson liable for the 2020 crash, killing 2 boys, awarding the victims' family $176 million in compensatory damages and an additional $21 million (Grossman) and $1.7 million (Erickson) in punitive damages (on top of the $176 million). Grossman is also serving a 15 year prison sentence.
______
"On Sept. 29, 2020, Grossman and Erickson — whom The New York Times reported was her boyfriend at the time — were drinking margaritas at a restaurant, per the Los Angeles Times.
"According to a January 2021 lawsuit, after they left the establishment, they got in their respective cars and proceeded to speed down Triunfo Canyon Road in Westlake Village, Calif., per ABC 7.
"As their cars were approaching a crosswalk, Grossman struck two children — Mark and Jacob Iskander. She was going over 80 mph in a 45 mph zone, according to authorities.
"The boys' mother, Nancy, said that she was forced to grab her youngest son and dive to avoid getting hit by a black Mercedes SUV — Erickson's car — per the Los Angeles Times. She then saw her two older sons disappear as Grossman's white Mercedes sped through the crosswalk.
"Mark and Jacob were killed when Grossman hit them while they were crossing the street at a crosswalk. According to NBC 4 Los Angeles, Jacob had skates on, while Mark was on a skateboard.
“The white car passed exactly where Mark and Jacob were, and then I looked back and didn't find them, and I started screaming,” Nancy testified in her May 2026 civil suit, per the Los Angeles Times. “I went down the road, and I saw Mark; he had blood coming out of his mouth, and his shoes weren't on him. I could tell he was all broken, and I could tell he died. … I just knew, I don't know how, as a mother.”
"After hitting the two boys, Grossman continued driving and only stopped when the safety system in her SUV disabled the vehicle about one-third of a mile away…"
"… Grossman pleaded not guilty, but in February 2024, she was found guilty on two counts of murder, two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter and one count of hit-and-run driving resulting in death, per The New York Times.
"Grossman was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
"In January 2021, Erickson was charged with one misdemeanor count of reckless driving, per The New York Times. However, the charge was dismissed after he participated in a public service video promoting safe driving, his lawyer said in June 2024.
"While Erickson and Grossman were in separate cars when the crash occurred, the jury concluded he was negligent and that the two parties “acted in concert with each other in the course of their activities leading to the fatal collision," per the Los Angeles Times.
"Grossman's husband, plastic surgeon Peter Grossman, was also named as a defendant since he was the owner of the vehicle Grossman was driving.
"This case is about human beings and the safety of others,” attorney Brian Panish, who represented the Iskander family, said days before the damages verdict, via the Los Angeles Times. “When people make bad choices, there are consequences and people suffer. And now a day of reckoning."

After a jury awarded $176 million in compensatory damages to the Iskander family last week, further punitive damages were issued on Wednesday for defendants Rebecca Grossman and former Dodger Scott Erickson.
"A jury in Van Nuys ordered Grossman to pay $21 million and Erickson to pay $1.17 million in punitive damages, on top of the $176 million.
"The awarded damages are part of a civil lawsuit involving the deaths of 11-year-old Mark Iskander and his brother, 8-year-old Jacob, who were struck by Grossman's Mercedes-Benz SUV as they were crossing the street with their family in a marked crosswalk in 2020."
