Ukrainian Drone Attacks Target Tatarstan Refineries and Samara Petrochemical Plant on Russia Day
June 12, 2026
Overnight Ukrainian drone strikes targeted major energy and petrochemical facilities in central Russia’s Samara region and the republic of Tatarstan, monitoring groups reported Friday.
Mayor Radmir Belyayev of Tatarstan’s industrial city of Nizhnekamsk said four people were hospitalized after a Ukrainian drone struck a multistory residential building. The exiled outlet Astra shared eyewitness video of the detonation and the subsequent fire.
Ukrainian monitoring channels reported that two of the targets included Nizhnekamskneftekhim, Russia’s largest producer of synthetic rubber and plastics, and the Taneco oil refinery.
Tatarstan Head Rustam Minnikhanov, without identifying the plants by name, said that “the attacked enterprises were swiftly addressing the aftermath.” Mayor Belyayev said all public events were canceled on Friday, which marks the Russia Day holiday, due to the drone threat.
In the neighboring Samara region, the mayor of another industrial city, Tolyatti, said Ukrainian drone attacks damaged an “industrial facility.” Ukrainian monitoring groups identified the target as synthetic rubber and chemical component producer Tolyattikauchuk.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said its air defense systems had intercepted 231 Ukrainian drones over 15 Russian regions, including Samara and Tatarstan, as well as annexed Crimea.
Elsewhere, two civilians were killed and two wounded in western Russia’s border region of Bryansk after Ukraine struck the settlement of Suzemka with artillery, according to acting Governor Yegor Kovalchuk.
In Ukraine, a 44-year-old woman working as a rail station operator died on her way to a shelter during a drone attack in the border region of Sumy, the head of Ukrainian Railways said.
Another woman, a station attendant, was wounded in the attack, Oleksandr Pertsovkyi said.
Three people were wounded in separate strikes on Ukraine's southern Mykolaiv region.

'TIGHTEN YOUR SECURITY' Iran-linked hackers ‘infiltrate FBI drones and threaten to target World Cup team buses’ in chilling warning
07:25, 12 Jun 2026 Updated: 07:59, 12 Jun 2026
AN IRAN-linked hacker group has breached FBI drones and threatened to target World Cup team buses this week, according to a terrifying report.
The Handala syndicate said it has had access to a wide range of American surveillance drone footage and imagery “for months”, according to a monitoring group.
The SITE Intelligence Group – who monitor jihadist organisations – said Handala had released a statement detailing their claims.
The hackers reportedly said they had access to “every image and every suspect” captured by the FBI’s first-person view (FPV) drones for the last few months.
The cyber criminals said the drones featured facial recognition and license plate screening deployed for counter-terrorism.
Handala reportedly said in their warning: “Better tighten your World Cup security, we don’t like some of those teams at all.
“Don’t forget: FPVs are everywhere; you never know when one might end up right in your team’s bus.”
Such a breach of security for the FBI would mark a major security failure as US authorities work tirelessly to safeguard its visitors for what is expected to be the most extravagant World Cup yet.
The FBI has deployed various drones to help protect the tournament from any unauthorised aircraft.
UAV flights will be banned over US stadiums hosting matches, as well as over fan events related to the competition.
The Justice Department has previously warned of the potential for cyberattacks by Iranian-linked actors amid the US-Israeli war with the Islamic Republic.
In March, Handala claimed to have hacked the email account of FBI Director Kash Patel and published personal photos and other material online.
There is currently a £7million bounty on any members of the group, a reward issued by the US State Department.
It marks the latest controversy to hit the historic tournament – which has been plagued by travel chaos and referee bans.
Fifa President Gianni Infantino has said World Cup critics should “chill, relax” and that nobody could have done more than him to ensure the tournament is a success.
In a stark contrast to his much-mocked “today I feel gay” speech before the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the boss of the global game attempted to cast Fifa as the good guys.
Infantino rejected arguments that he should have done more to stand up to Donald Trump, insisting that only Fifa’s intercession ensured Iran could take their place in the tournament.
He also dismissed criticisms of World Cup ticket prices, comparing them to the basic prices for major sports events and concerts in the USA and maintaining: “This shows the prices were accurate.”
And while Infantino regretted the banning of Somalian referee Omar Artan, he was adamant Fifa had done more than any government to work with the US authorities, despite complaints from fans around the world who have been denied visas.

At least 16 killed in drone strike on Sudan’s El Obeid, sources say
12 June 2026
At least 16 people were killed and dozens more wounded on Thursday when drones operated by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) struck several neighbourhoods in the North Kordofan state capital of El Obeid, local sources and medical officials said.
The strike is one of the deadliest bombardments to hit the strategic hub since the conflict began, according to local residents.
Local sources told Sudan Tribune that the paramilitary group launched the drone attacks early Thursday morning, targeting multiple locations across the city.
A medical source at the El Obeid Teaching Hospital confirmed that the facility had received the bodies of 16 people killed in the strikes.
Eyewitnesses said the bombardment focused on the Al-Matar and Al-Muwazafin neighbourhoods, as well as areas surrounding the headquarters of the Sudanese army’s 5th Infantry Division.
The assault began around 2:00 a.m. with two consecutive strikes. The first hit residential homes in Al-Muwazafin, killing several civilians and causing severe structural damage.
A second strike hit the same location shortly after as residents gathered to rescue survivors and evacuate the wounded, significantly driving up the casualty toll, sources said.
The escalation in aerial attacks comes amid intelligence reports of an unprecedented buildup of RSF fighters in areas surrounding El Obeid, raising fears of an imminent, large-scale ground offensive to seize the city.

South Korea's ex-president Yoon Suk Yeol gets 30 years over North Korea drone incident
12 Jun 2026 10:47AM (Updated: 12 Jun 2026 01:00PM)
SEOUL: A South Korean court sentenced ex-president Yoon Suk Yeol to 30 years in prison on Friday (Jun 12) for sending military drones into North Korea, saying he planned the action as a pretext for his disastrous martial law declaration in 2024.
The drone flights two months before Yoon suspended civilian rule had sparked anger in Pyongyang, which accused the South of dropping propaganda leaflets as well.
Judges said Yoon intended to provoke Pyongyang "into carrying out armed or equivalent acts against South Korea's military of people", according to a summary of their ruling seen by AFP.
Yoon planned to "heighten inter-Korean military tensions and manufacture a national crisis", so his martial law could have been justified, they added.
The former president was given 30 years in jail over the drone incursion, a spokesperson for the Seoul Central District Court told AFP on Friday.
Yoon is in detention while he appeals a life sentence for leading an insurrection with his martial law declaration. He insists that he declared martial law "solely for the sake of the nation".
His defence has also denied the charge over the drones, arguing that the operation was in response to North Korea sending balloons carrying trash across the border that year.
On Friday, the court's judges said the 2024 drone operation "entailed the use of South Korea's military capabilities for private purposes".
The judges added that powers vested in the president, including supreme command of the armed forces and the authority to declare martial law, must be exercised to protect the nation's survival and security.
But Yoon approved the military drone operation, "believing he could arbitrarily use such powers for his own political gain", the judges said.
"MOST HOSTILE"
Yoon's shock late-night national televised address in December 2024, that suspended civilian rule, plunged South Korea into an unprecedented political crisis.
Martial law lasted only about six hours as lawmakers raced to the assembly building and voted it down in an emergency session.
However, it triggered protests, sent the stock market plunging and caught key allies like the United States off-guard.
Yoon is facing multiple legal cases, and Lee Jae Myung was elected president after months of political chaos in the country.
Drone flights remain a flashpoint in tensions between the two Koreas, which remain technically at war.
In an incident unrelated to Yoon's drone case, South Korean investigators found that government officials had sent drones into the nuclear-armed North in January. President Lee expressed regret earlier this year over the incident.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's powerful sister called Lee's statement "wise behaviour", but hopes for a rapprochement faded after the diplomatically isolated nation returned to calling the South its "most hostile" enemy.

£35 million government funding boost to stop drones smuggling contraband into prisons
11 June 2026
New counter-drone measures at 17 prisons at high risk from drones
Up to 13,000 cell windows to be reinforced with grilles to thwart criminals smuggling illicit items
Part of Government action to ensure prisons cut crime and protect the public
Up to 13,000 prison cell windows across England and Wales will be fitted with heavy-duty steel grilles to stop drones smuggling drugs, weapons and mobile phones into jails.
The roll out, backed by £35m of government funding, will see physical security strengthened at 17 high-risk prisons vulnerable to drone activity. The funding will help to crackdown on criminal gangs exploiting jails with increasingly sophisticated drone operations.
The investment includes installing thousands of grilles to cell windows by spring next year – providing a tough physical barrier to block the delivery of contraband which can wreak havoc behind bars.
Many of the grilles will be manufactured by prisoners themselves - helping to cut costs and giving offenders skills for the job market so they can leave crime behind.
It comes as crooks are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their approach with drone sightings around prisons increasing by 770% between 2019 and 2023, not only undermining rehabilitation efforts but threatening the safety of both staff and prisoners.
Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy, said:
Drone smuggling fuels violence, debt and disorder in our prisons. It wrecks rehabilitation and puts lives at risk.
This new investment will further bolster prison defences against drones, building on our work with police to catch and prosecute the criminal gangs responsible.
To the criminal gangs using drones to target our prisons, my message is clear: we are shutting down your routes, disrupting your operations and bringing offenders to justice.
Today’s announcement builds on £40 million already invested by the Government to strengthen prison security, including £10 million specifically on counter-drone measures such as external netting and wires.
A large-scale joint operation between the police and HMPPS has already resulted in over 200 arrests linked to drones smuggling contraband into our prisons.
In March, a gang that used drones to smuggle drugs and mobile phones into prisons were sentenced to a combined 22 years’ imprisonment, thanks to an investigation by the Metropolitan Police in partnership with the Prison Service.
National Police Chiefs’ Council Lead for Countering the Threat from Drones in Prisons, Steff Sharp said:
We welcome this investment as it aligns with our continued pursuit of those using drones to smuggle weapons, drugs, phones and other contraband into prisons.
These items fuel organised crime, impact local communities and increase the risk of violence towards staff and inmates within prison walls.
Counter drone activity is complex which is why we are committed to working closely with HMPPS and other partners to make sure this criminality is prevented, intercepted and offenders brought to justice.
Today’s investment supports wider Government efforts to develop counter-drone capabilities, including by learning from Ukrainian expertise developed on the battlefield and from innovators through a competition launched this year to tackle the illegal use of drones in prisons.
More broadly the Government plans to build 14,000 extra places nationwide by 2031 - with 3,100 already added since July 2024 - to keep streets safer and ensure the country never runs out of prison space again.

A Brazilian Psychic Claims That a UFO Mothership Will Come to Earth on June 24
June 11 2026, 9:14 a.m. ET
Vó specified the UFO would be at a soccer match on June 24, 2026 in Miami.
We seem to be living through an age of disclosure as the Trump administration has released a slew of UFO files and promises that more are on the way.
Of course, trust in the government is remarkably low these days, so the public is still utilizing their own resources to figure out whether or not we've been contacted by aliens.
One such resource is a Brazilian psychic who has gone viral thanks to her claims that a UFO mothership will visit Earth on June 24. Here's everything we know about her prediction…
Everything we know about the Brazilian psychic's claims that a UFO mothership will come to Earth on June 24.
Vó Bahiana is a self-proclaimed psychic from Brazil. Her location is rather important, as UFO enthusiasts know that Brazil has been a hotspot of extraterrestrial activity for decades.
According to Vó, a UFO mothership will visit a Miami, Florida, sports game on June 24. She claims that said UFO will take some people from the stadium aboard the ship and give them instructions before returning them to Earth.
There are a few things to unpack here: First of all, the location of Miami, Florida, should ring alarm bells for UFO watchers. That very same city was the location of a supposed alien sighting in a mall back in January, 2024.
In what's now called the "Miami Mall Aliens" incident, nearly all of Miami's police department were summoned to the mall as shoppers reported seeing aliens in the vicinity.
The authorities have since explained the incident away by stating that the "aliens" were a group of teenagers setting off fireworks. That doesn't really line up with the details of the story, but it's what Miami officials are going with.
Next, let's tackle the June 24 aspect of the prediction. Vó specified the UFO would be at a soccer match on June 24, 2026. According to Fox Sports, the FIFA World Cup Group Stage match featuring Scotland vs. Brazil meets those criteria of event type, date, and location.
Given that Vó's claims indicate the soccer match is a rather large event, it stands to reason that the Scotland vs. Brazil game is the only one she can be referring to, even if there are other, smaller soccer games elsewhere in the city on that day.
Now, let's address Vó's self-proclaimed status as a psychic. While the influencer's social media followers insist she's made multiple correct predictions, we haven't seen anything that goes beyond the basic abilities you'd find from a carnival fortune teller who will predict your future for a dollar.
Vó's prediction consist of celebrity breakups that we all saw coming a mile away, political predictions that anyone who stays up to date on current events would also anticipate, and incredibly vague claims of "scandal" or "turmoil" in someone's future.
People can make their own decisions as to whether or not they want to heed Vó's warnings and avoid the June 24 Miami game.
That said, it seems unlikely that diehard sports fans are going to let the possibility of being abducted stop them from attending.
As for us, we're certainly going to keep an eye on the news on the big day, but we're not going to hold our breath for ET to show up.

CIA was 'extraordinarily' evasive with UFO scientist, new US files say
Updated June 12, 2026, 1:33 p.m. ET
No bombshells so far in the latest Pentagon batch of declassified Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena files. But they show the CIA hid its involvement.
WASHINGTON – They’re out there! The latest batch of newly declassified Pentagon documents about potential alien contact, that is.
The Trump administration, on June 12 – the same day a new Steven Spielberg blockbuster on alien visitors comes out − released a third tranche of previously top-secret UFO files from military and civilian intelligence agencies.
The new documents, photos, drawings and videos add to the government's rapidly expanding archive of unexplained sightings, known in official parlance as UAPs, or Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena.
So far, there are no bombshells, based on a USA TODAY review of the documents, and early social media postings from other media and the legions of UFO-ologists out there.
But the files do include documentation, as in previous releases, of some sightings and other observations that investigators were unable to explain, leaving the true details of the phenomena unresolved.
The release marks the latest chapter amid a resurgent public interest in UFOs, spurred by recent high-profile Congressional hearings on the topic.
And this time, whether intentionally or not, it aligns with the release of Spielberg's "Disclosure Day," a sci-fi thriller in which the acclaimed director of other alien-themed movies explores how humans might deal if we found out we weren't alone in the universe.
1/2
The declassified materials uploaded to the Department of Defense’s website on Friday morning offered no immediate evidence about alien visitors to planet Earth.
But they did contain some intriguing reports and exchanges dating back to the 1950s about the potential for life beyond our own floating blue orb.
In one case, CIA officials hid their spy-agency affiliation from a scientist, Dr. Leon Davidson, who was seeking answers about an alleged “space message and its transmitter.”
An 'extraordinarily noncommittal and evasive answer' by the CIA
“We have contacted Dr. Davidson by telephone advising him that we cannot resolve his problem concerning the space message and its transmitter because records on the matter have been destroyed by the evaluating agency,” R.P.B.
Lohmann wrote in a “confidential” letter to the CIA’s “Chief, Contact Division” and others on Jan. 9, 1958.
Leon Davidson was a chemical engineer who worked on the Manhattan Project and at Los Alamos, and who “studied and collected material on UFOs” from 1949 into the 1960s, according to archival materials at Columbia University.
The Columbia University Libraries houses the “Leon Davidson Flying Saucer Collection” as part of its Rare Book and Manuscript Library, its website says.
“Davidson accepted this statement with the comment that he had been told this before,” and said he was trying to water down his pending article about “Air Force handling of space sightings” enough for it to get approved by a Pentagon security review team.
“We appreciate that there have been many cooks in the kitchen on this dish and that, as a result, the extraordinarily noncommittal and evasive answer we were instructed to give Davidson was perhaps the only one possible if we were to avoid crossing up previous statements of our own, and other involved agencies, to this man,” Lohmann wrote.
“But the answer was hardly fair to Davidson, and one not likely to be fully accepted by him.”
Lohmann also noted that two agency officials dealing with Davidson tried to “conceal their CIA identity from him,” but that they were “reasonably sure that … he knew very well with whom he was dealing.”
In signing off, Lohmann wrote, “We are sure more will be heard from Davidson.”
'Unprecedented levels of interest'
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell posted on X that the files were released as part of President Donald Trump’s Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters (PURSUE).
Parnell said there had been “unprecedented levels of interest in both this topic” and the release of the files, housed at WAR.GOV/UFO, so the public – and the legions of UFO researchers – can study them.
The site has received more than 1.7 billion hits worldwide since its launch on May 8, 2026.
Parnell said the Pentagon “and our agency partners are actively working on the next release of UAP files.” Those agencies include the White House, various U.S. intelligence agencies, the FBI, the Department of Energy and NASA.
The questions linger. New documents, at least, are out there for perusal.

Japan Airlines Pilot Claimed He Saw UFO Bigger Than an Aircraft Carrier During 45-Minute Alaska Encounter
12 June 2026, 8:20 AM BST
A veteran pilot's UFO sighting over Alaska continues to intrigue researchers and sceptics alike
A routine cargo flight over the frozen skies of Alaska became one of the most talked-about UFO incidents in aviation history when a veteran Japan Airlines pilot reported seeing a massive unidentified object unlike anything he had encountered before.
Nearly four decades later, the extraordinary sighting continues to fuel debate among researchers, sceptics and UFO enthusiasts, largely because of one detail that sets it apart from many other claims: radar data appeared to support at least part of the crew's account.
Japan Airlines Cargo Flight 1628
The incident occurred on 17 November 1986 when Japan Airlines Cargo Flight 1628 was travelling from Paris to Tokyo with a stop planned in Anchorage, Alaska.
The Boeing 747 was commanded by veteran pilot Captain Kenju Terauchi, who had logged thousands of hours in the cockpit.
According to Terauchi, the encounter began when two unusual rectangular lights appeared near the aircraft. The lights reportedly moved rapidly around the cargo plane and shone bright beams into the cockpit, creating an unsettling experience for the crew.
The captain later claimed the objects seemed to follow the aircraft for several minutes. Just when the crew thought the strange lights had disappeared, an even larger object allegedly emerged.
Terauchi described the craft as enormous, comparing its size to an aircraft carrier. In later sketches, he depicted a walnut-shaped object measuring roughly 1,000 feet across, dwarfing his Boeing 747.
Terauchi claimed the giant craft moved in front of the plane at one stage, partially blocking his view. He later recalled feeling frightened while communicating with air traffic controllers about what he was seeing.
Sketches produced after the incident showed the enormous object looming over the cargo jet. According to descriptions provided by the captain, the UFO appeared large enough to contain multiple aircraft inside it.
While eyewitness reports can sometimes be challenged because of human error or misinterpretation, Terauchi remained consistent in his account. He continued to insist that the crew had witnessed something extraordinary in the skies above Alaska.
The incident quickly attracted attention beyond aviation circles, becoming one of the most famous UFO cases of the modern era.
Radar Data Added To The Debate
According to accounts discussed by physicist Kevin Knuth and other researchers, radar operators detected unusual returns during parts of the encounter.
The event allegedly generated around 45 minutes of data, although debates continue regarding how much of the information directly confirmed the crew's observations.
Former Federal Aviation Administration official John Callahan later became associated with the case after claiming that materials related to the incident were reviewed by government agencies and scientific advisers.
Callahan said he retained copies of certain documents and records for years before eventually discussing them publicly. His involvement helped keep interest in the case alive long after the original event.
Researchers who examined portions of the radar information argued that some of the reported movements appeared difficult to explain using conventional aircraft performance.
However, critics maintain that radar anomalies can occur for a variety of reasons and do not automatically prove the presence of an unknown craft.
Alaska Encounter Still Fascinates People
The Japan Airlines incident remains one of the most enduring UFO stories because it combines several elements rarely found together in a single case.
There were multiple witnesses, a highly experienced commercial pilot, air traffic control involvement and reported radar data. These factors have helped the encounter remain relevant decades after it first occurred.
Supporters of the UFO hypothesis argue that the event demonstrates the possibility of technology far beyond current human capabilities.
Some researchers have pointed to estimates suggesting the object appeared to perform manoeuvres that would exceed the limits of known aircraft.
Sceptics, however, continue to question whether the crew may have misidentified natural phenomena, distant lights or radar anomalies. They argue that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
Despite years of investigation, no definitive explanation has emerged. The sighting remains unresolved, leaving aviation experts and UFO researchers divided.
