Spencer Pratt says fire at his Pacific Palisades crystals office ‘not an accident’ as investigation launched

A "suspicious" fire broke out at the Pacific Palisades office of Spencer Pratt's crystals company, he revealed to The California Post.

The Los Angeles mayoral candidate confirmed that the office, located inside the Highlands Circle complex at 1515 Palisades Dr., belonged to him.

The Los Angeles Fire Department's Arson Unit was notified, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

"I want to be careful to not compromise an arson investigation, but this incident is very suspicious," Pratt told The Post, just hours after his bombshell post-election video dropped.

"I will wait for the investigators to make public the details, but this was no accident, and the timing of this…on the heels of all of the contentious election tomfoolery of the last two weeks, it is very suspect, indeed."

The fire broke out on Thursday afternoon and prompted a response from multiple Los Angeles Fire Department units.

Firefighters were seen battling flames at the property while investigators worked to determine the cause. No injuries were immediately reported.

The office is located in a building that formerly housed the popular Cosa Nostra restaurant. The property survived January's Palisades Fire and was undergoing renovations at the time of Thursday's incident.

"There are many unscrupulous people in this city who will stop at nothing to silence people who expose the corruption that has overrun our city," Pratt added, thanking the LAFD for their in bringing the blaze under control.

"This fire was not an accident, and it would not surprise me in the least if this were a reprisal for my work in opposing Karen Bass and Nithya Raman, and having the audacity as a civilian to try and do my civic duty and improve our broken city."

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Elon Musk isn't the only one getting richer from SpaceX going public.

The stock’s surge is estimated to have turned about 4,400 current and former employees into millionaires through equity compensation accumulated during their time at the company.

SpaceX’s long-awaited IPO lion, valuing the company at roughly $1.8 trillion.

The offering also pushed Musk’s estimated net worth past the $1 trillion mark, further cementing his position as the world’s richest person.

Now Wall Street is watching to see whether the stock's early trading can drive SpaceX’s valuation even higher, rewarding employees and investors who backed the company during its rise.

California democrats demand Sean Duffy release $160 million in transportation funds

Today, Representative John Garamendi joined U.S. Senator Adam Schiff who led 21 California Democrats in urging the U.S. Department of Transportation to restore $160 million in FY2027 National Highway Performance Program funds to California – critical transportation funding that was withheld following the state delaying the cancellation of 17,000 commercial driver’s licenses.

The lawmakers also raise significant concerns regarding the recent implementation of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s final rule, which restricts drivers from obtaining a CDL if they do not have an H-2A, H-2B or E-2 visa – disqualifying hundreds of thousands of eligible drivers, potentially creating a driver shortage that could lead to a supply chain crisis.

“Implementing a rule that effectively pauses or severely restricts nondomiciled CDL programs nationwide and withholding $160 million in FY2027 National Highway Performance Program funds from California – infrastructure dollars meant to maintain roads all Americans use – are punitive actions that undermine road safety and the integrity of our national supply chain and workforce,” the lawmakers wrote in a letter to USDOT Secretary Sean Duffy.

With California accounting for the second largest state with employed CDL drivers and with the strongest safety record for commercial motor vehicles in the nation, FMCSA’s final rule will have several implications on the state and country: putting public safety at risk, constraining driver availability, reducing the workforce, and increasing shipping costs which in turn will raise prices on everyday goods.

“As California accounts for approximately 25 percent of the nation’s drayage capacity – the critical short-haul trips moving goods from our ports to the national supply chain – the Department’s rule creates an immediate bottleneck with national implications. Industry estimates suggest this rule could reduce the workforce in states like California by 15 to 25 percent, creating localized pressures that will resonate throughout the supply chain,” the lawmakers wrote.

Amid the administration’s crackdown on CDL drivers, the lawmakers are pushing the department to refocus its efforts on ensuring public safety on the roads, undo the freezing of critical federal funding from the largest donor state, rescind the FMCSA final rule, and reinstate non-domiciled CDL programs across the country.

“We urge the department to immediately restore the federal funding owed to California – the state with the largest net contribution gap of any state, paying $275.6 billion more to the federal government than it received in 2024; rescind its Final Rule; and reinstate non-domiciled CDL programs across the country. We stand ready to work with the department on data-driven reforms and safety audits to ensure consistent, nationwide standards without targeting an essential workforce,” the lawmakers concluded.

In addition to Schiff and Garamendi, the letter is signed by U.S. Senator Alex Padilla, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, and U.S. Representatives Ami Bera, Julia Brownley, Salud Carbajal, Judy Chu, Gil Cisneros, Mark DeSaulnier, Adam Gray, Jared Huffman, Sydney Kamlager-Dove, Mike Levin Kevin Mullin, Raul Ruiz, Brad Sherman, Lateefah Simon, Mark Takano, Mike Thompson, Norma Torres, and Juan Vargas.

The efforts by the lawmakers are supported by the Sikh Coalition.

“Measures aimed at promoting safety must be based on fact and data rather than bias and anecdote,” said Mannirmal Kaur, Senior Federal Policy Manager at Sikh Coalition. “As demonstrated throughout U.S. history, individuals of all nationalities are capable of filling some of the most physically and mentally demanding roles in our transportation and freight sectors, and our nation’s capacity is what it is today in large part thanks to their aptitude. It is unacceptable that the DOT’s final rule is arbitrarily depriving nearly 200,000 CDL holders of their licenses and livelihoods through no fault of their own,”

Elon Musk becomes the world's first trillionaire with SpaceX's IPO

Elon Musk has become the first person to cross the trillionaire threshold, at least on paper, after SpaceX priced its blockbuster initial public offering at $135 a share and its stock soared in its stock market debut.

Before the IPO, Musk was worth an estimated $813 billion, a fortune more than twice as large as the planet's second-richest person, Google co-founder Larry Page, who is worth an estimated $288 billion, according to Forbes.

"SpaceX wants to be able to take you to the Moon, take you to Mars and ultimately beyond," Musk said at a launch event with staffers on Friday at the company's headquarters in Starbase, Texas.

SpaceX formally setting its stock price at $135 boosted Musk's fortune to just over $1 trillion. The shares, which trade under the ticker symbol SPCX, jumped after they began trading shortly before noon ET. At its closing price of $160.95 on Friday, Musk's net worth reached roughly $1.14 trillion, although future declines could push him back below the trillionaire mark.

While billionaire wealth alone may be hard enough to comprehend, a trillionaire represents a level of wealth that rivals the economic output of the world's biggest nations. Only 19 countries have GDPs that surpass $1 trillion, ranging from the U.S. to the Netherlands, according to World Bank data.

Musk's surging fortune represents a "new Gilded Age" of wealth inequality, Oxfam America senior director of economic justice Nabil Ahmed said in a statement.

"Elon Musk's rise to trillionaire status marks a new pinnacle of oligarchy," Ahmed said.

To be sure, plenty of other SpaceX employees and investors are likely to mint new fortunes with the IPO. About 4,400 SpaceX workers could become millionaires when the stock begins trading, according to the New York Times. But Musk is likely to be the biggest beneficiary, given his large stake in the business.

Musk owns 4.8 billion shares of SpaceX, or about 42% of the company, as well as 350 million stock options exercisable at $8.39 per share, according to the company's IPO filing. At $135 a share, Musk's stake is worth $648 billion. His options add another $44.3 billion to his net worth.

Because Forbes valued Musk's pre-IPO stake in SpaceX at $500 billion, the IPO sale boosts the value of his SpaceX shares by an additional $192.3 billion, bringing his total net worth to $1.005 trillion.

SpaceX shares touched as high as $168.75 in Friday afternoon trading before closing at $160.95. At the closing price, Musk's stake in SpaceX is worth an additional $326 billion, placing his total wealth at roughly $1.14 billion.

That wealth makes Musk richer than the bottom 46% of the world's population, or a combined 3.8 billion people, Oxfam said.

Stocks end higher as SpaceX soars in debut

Stocks rose on Friday as SpaceX’s opening pop bolstered sentiment, with investors hoping for the arrival of a potential peace deal between the U.S. and Iran.

The S&P 500 closed up 0.5% at 7,431.46, while the Nasdaq Composite added 0.31% to finish at 25,888.84. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 353.51 points, or 0.7%, to settle at 51,202.26.

Elon Musk’s rocket maker debuted on the Nasdaq at $150 per share, trading under the symbol SPCX. That’s above its $135 IPO price. The stock soared more than 20% shortly after it opened and closed up 19% at around $161.

The run-up in SpaceX boosted investor confidence, leading some on Wall Street to believe other stocks may be undervalued.

“The IPO parade, which now looks like it’s turning into a stampede, has been coming for a while,” said Mark Klein, CEO and president at SuRo Capital. “SpaceX is going to be the bellwether.”

“As you look at the IPO market going forward, there are a lot of companies that want to go public, but you may see some of the more important names wait and see what happens because so much capital is flowing to a handful of companies,” he added.

The tech trade was mixed on the day, but had been ramping up recently on hopes for a successful debut for SpaceX, which is also an artificial intelligence appetite proxy because of its xAI unit. AI darling Nvidia finished marginally higher, while other stocks such as Advanced Micro Devices and Alphabet were higher by 4.7% and 0.5%, respectively. Broadcom and AI software stock Palantir Technologies closed in the red, as did Amazon and Meta Platforms.

“The AI theme, in my opinion, is just getting stronger,” said Jeff Kilburg, CEO of KKM Financial. “Nothing moves in a straight line, and we’ve seen a couple hiccups in the Nasdaq, maybe more to geopolitical tension versus the SpaceX IPO. But I think the [‘Magnificent Seven’] leadership should persist.”

Stocks had earlier turned lower, and oil came off it’s lows of the session after President Donald Trump warned in a Truth Social post that Iran “better get their act together” even as a supposed deal between the U.S. and Iran was on the table. West Texas Intermediate crude futures

closed 3.2% lower at $84.88 a barrel.

Later Friday, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that a “final, agreed upon text” of a deal “has been reached.” Major indexes regained some of their strength after those comments.

Iranian state media reported that the draft version of the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding includes a commitment from the U.S. to lift oil sanctions, as well as a commitment from Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

A peace deal could be signed in Switzerland as soon as Sunday, Bloomberg reported Friday, citing people familiar with the plans.

Former Air Canada captain charged after allegedly flying hundreds of flights without proper licence

A former airline captain is facing fraud charges after he allegedly flew hundreds of flights over nearly 17 years without a necessary licence, Peel Regional Police say.

Geoffrey Wall, 59, of Barrie, Ont., was arrested on June 1, following a complex fraud investigation dubbed "Project Icarus," Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich announced at a news conference Tuesday.

Wall began his career in 1998 and was promoted to captain in 2009, at which point he required an airline transport pilot licence (ATPL), which he allegedly did not have, police said.

He allegedly used fraudulent pilot licences to deceive Air Canada and Transport Canada during his career as a captain, and attempted to conceal that he had done so in a false report to police, Milinovich said.

Wall has been charged with fraud over $5,000, public mischief, two counts of uttering forged documents and three counts of possession of counterfeit mark, Peel police said in a release issued after Tuesday’s news conference.

“This is very similar to a doctor that is licensed to practice family medicine, but is doing brain surgery in their office,” said Milinovich.

Police said the investigation began in January after Transport Canada reviewed the licensing credentials and conduct of a commercial airline captain. Anomalies had been detected with documentation he presented to Transport Canada during a routine operational evaluation last year at Pearson airport, police said.

Between 2009 and 2025, Wall captained more than 900 domestic and international flights, flying tens of thousands of passengers on Boeing 767s, 777s and 787s while earning nearly $3 million in salary, police said.

During his 27-year career, Wall held several positions with the Air Canada Pilots Association, police said, including chair of the master executive council, the association's governing body.

Nando Iannicca, the chair of the Peel Police Services Board, said the allegations against Wall were concerning because of their scale and potential to undermine public trust.

“The allegations in this case suggest a deliberate effort to circumvent systems designed to safeguard the public," he said.

But Air Canada said in a statement on Monday that while the airline is taking the matter with the utmost seriousness, safety had not been compromised.

It said the airline's pilots are tested every six months to validate their flying competency. Pilots also undergo a flight check with a certified Transport Canada check-pilot every 12 months.

The airline said the pilot was fully trained, with a valid commercial pilot licence, and demonstrated a high level of competency in his required recurrent training.

Asked Tuesday if safety had been compromised by the pilot's alleged conduct, Deputy Chief Milinovich said these licensing requirements exist for a reason.

"When we breach those, not only when we breach them, but when we misrepresent the qualifications that we have, to me that's a safety issue," he said.

Air Canada said upon discovering the pilot did not have his ATPL, which is required for captains of large aircraft operated by airlines in Canada, the airline removed Wall from active duty and reported the matter to Transport Canada.

Police said that Wall had retired last year prior to Transport Canada's review or the police investigation.

After retiring from Air Canada, Wall took a job at Georgian College where he helped students with military connections transition to college life, according to a write-up dated November 2025 and posted on the college's website.

The write-up attributed to Wall suggests he flew out of the Barrie Flying Club as a teenager and joined the military out of high school. The page says he served as a helicopter pilot out of Moose Jaw and later Halifax before joining Air Canada.

"I've always believed in helping people navigate systems that can feel overwhelming, and in many ways that work was about connection and trust," read the post, which has since been taken down.

In a statement to CBC Toronto, Georgian College spokesperson Philip Scheirich confirmed Wall was a part-time employee. However, Scheirich said the college would not comment on the arrest, charges or Wall's current employment status due to the active criminal investigation.

Shortly after the news conference Tuesday, Georgian College took down a webpage containing photos and a biography of Wall.

Air Canada said an audit of its pilots found no other instances of non-compliance. The airline said it would not comment beyond its statement, citing privacy laws and the ongoing investigation.

Man suspected of firing AK-47 in Brussels metro on the run after breaking ankle tag

A 20-year-old man suspected of firing an AK-47 assault rifle in a Brussels metro station is being tried in absentia after breaking his ankle tag and going on the run.

'YA' stands accused of firing the weapon at Clemenceau metro station on the morning of 5 February, 2025 – one of the most notable shooting incidents in Brussels in recent years. The Public Prosecutor's Office has demanded YA be given a 16-year prison sentence by the Brussels Correctional Court.

Ballistic analysis revealed that 23 bullet casings originated from the weapon. A stray bullet that landed in a child's bedroom on the ground floor of a house on Place Clémenceau was also fired from the same assault rifle.

Camera footage of the incident showed that most shots were fired at head height and targeted rival drug dealers from the Peterbos district, who arrived at Clemenceau on scooters that morning.

The Public Prosecutor argued that the action clearly constituted attempted murder. Insisting on a "very strong signal" from the justice system, the prosecutor requested a 16-year sentence for the alleged shooter.

However, the suspect is not present at the trial. The young man had an ankle tag fitted last year, but cut it a few months ago and has been on the run ever since. He is therefore in danger of being convicted in absentia.

Another suspect, ZY, also stood trial on Friday. He carried an M4 rifle on the morning of the incident but did not fire it. The prosecution requested a 14-year prison sentence for ZY, arguing that the 21-year-old formed a "tandem" with the shooter.

For this reason, the prosecution believes that ZY is also guilty of attempted murder, criminal conspiracy, and illegal possession of a weapon. ZY confessed to sabotaging the rifle by inserting a cartridge backwards to jam the weapon.

Because ZY did not fire his weapon and a forensic analysis of his phone revealed a less concerning profile than YA, the prosecutor has asked for a slightly lighter sentence.
