Trump calls on "all sides" to "stand down" after Israel strikes Beirut

President Trump said "all sides should stand down" after Israel struck a Beirut suburb. Israel said the strike was in response to an attack by Hezbollah, and that it was targeting a command center for the terror group.Tehran warned Sunday that the Beirut attack could threaten a possible truce between the U.S. and Iran.

"This morning's attack on Beirut should not have happened, particularly on a special day when we are so close to a Peace Deal with Iran," Mr. Trump wrote on TruthSocial. "Israel has the right to defend itself against threats, but the attack it was responding to was very small and meaningless, nobody was hurt, injured, or killed, and should not disrupt this important process."

Mr. Trump repeated that the U.S. and Iran are "very close to a Deal that will bring peace to the region,including to Lebanon."

"There should be no more attacks by Israel anywhere in Lebanon, but there should also be no more attacks by any other party, including Hezbollah, against Israel," Mr Trump wrote. "This could be the beginning of a long and beautiful peace —Let's not blow it!"

After Israel struck a Beirut suburb last week, Iran responded with attacks on Israel. The Israel Defense Forces said Sunday it is prepared for an attack from Iran.

Iran's parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said on social media that Israel's strike in Lebanon shows that "America either lacks the will to fulfill its commitments or the ability to do so."

He warned that the strikes could imperil the final stage of negotiations.

Israel strikes Hezbollah command center in Beirut, IDF says

The Israel Defense Forces struck Beirut on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz announced in a joint statement.

The IDF said in a statement that it "precisely struck a Hezbollah infrastructure site in Dahieh, Beirut."The army later described the site as a command center "used by Hezbollah terrorists to advance terrorist attacks against the citizens of the State of Israel and IDF soldiers operating in southern Lebanon."

The IDF said it used precise munitions and aerial surveillance as part of an effort to "mitigate harm to civilians."

The ministers said the strike was in response to fire from the Iran-backed terror group. Tehran has insisted that any U.S.-Iran ceasefire deal must also include an end to Israeli strikes in Lebanon.

When Israel last struck the Beirut suburbs a week ago, Iran responded with strikes on Israel.

Iran security council confirms US memorandum, says war ends immediately

Iran's Supreme National Security Council said Tehran and Washington have finalized a memorandum of understanding to end the war following months of negotiations.

In a statement, the council saidmilitary operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, will end "immediately and permanently" from Sunday night.

It also said the naval blockade against Iran would be lifted immediately and in full.
