it's the 250th anniversary of the declaration of independence
the earliest date one could ascribe to the "birth of the republic" would be 1787, when ben franklin uttered his famous quote
it could be argued that this, too, is premature, because the constitution wasn't ratified by the requisite number of STATES until 1789
so the REPUBLIC of the UNITED STATES of america wasNOTborn until then
it's equivalent to someone claiming their birth date is the moment their parents first discussed the possibility of conceiving a child
it's like the whole new millennium thing all over again
people who CAN'T COUNT wanting january 1st 2000 to be the beginning of a new millennium instead of the 2001, the ACTUAL beginning of the new millennium
