A 61-year-old Serbian man was almost sucked out of a Ryanair flight after a piece of the plane's engine broke off and struck a window on the Boeing 737-800, causing it to shatter.

The man's wife and other passengers pinned the man to his seat for five minutes as his "head and shoulders" were hanging outside the plane, which had left Greece's Macedonia airport for Germany at 5:55 a.m. CNN Greece reports.

"The plane window broke and his wife held him for 5 minutes from the feet so that he would not leave. Strategy’s recent bitcoin sales and its formal monetization program have rattled investors, but JPMorgan analysts see a bigger danger to bitcoin: blockchain adoption that routes around public networks and the tokens that ride on them.

In a report led by managing director Nikolaos Panigirtzoglou (ZH: available here for professional subscribers), the bank argued that Strategy is not the main structural threat to the asset.

The company sold 3,588 bitcoin for $216 million in early July to cover preferred dividends, its largest disposal on record, and such sales can add bursts of selling pressure. The deeper concern, the analysts said, is where tokenization, payments and settlement end up.

Should that activity settle on permissioned rails rather than public chains, the crypto ecosystem could face a structural de-rating — thinner liquidity, weaker capital flows and slower on-chain volume — a drag that would reach bitcoin in time.

Institutions have leaned toward permissioned blockchains, which offer privacy, know-your-customer and anti-money-laundering controls, governance, throughput, legal accountability and regulatory certainty.

The Wall Street Journal in a Thursday evening report says that Israel has provided fresh intelligence to the White House indicating just such a Tehran-linked plot. The timing is quite curious and interesting given it comes just as the warring sides standing on the brink of returning once again to full-scale war:

Israel shared new intelligence with the U.S. that it said indicated a fresh Iranian plan to kill President Trump, people familiar with the matter said, a finding that would mark an escalation in the war between Washington and Iran.

Iran for years has vowed openly to retaliate against Trump for the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, who was a top general in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in the president’s first term.

The Israeli embassy in Washington declined to comment. Iran’s Mission to the United Nations didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. The White House referred The Wall Street Journal to comments the president made on Wednesday.

The Israelis have remained deeply dissatisfied with terms laid out in the previously agreed-to MoU, and so have every incentive to goad Washington further into the conflict. “We are taking concrete action to grow long-term value for shareholders: simplifying our portfolio, reducing costs, maintaining tight discipline on capex and strengthening the balance sheet,” O’Neill, the first female CEO of a Big Oil company, wrote in a LinkedIn post to reflect on the first 100 days as top executive of BP.

“We need to be deliberate about where we invest and where we don’t. We need to make fewer, better choices and hold ourselves to account,” O’Neill wrote.

“Investors should be able to rely on us in the same way our customers do,” the executive added.

BP has already simplified its structure by bundling operations into two businesses, Upstream and Downstream, with trading connecting both to create value.

On Thursday in Strasbourg, 314 Members of the European Parliament voted to reject the return of "Chat Control," the legal regime allowing tech companies to scan the private messages of roughly half a billion Europeans.

Only 276 voted to keep it.

So naturally, the scanning regime won - thanks to a 'quirky' voting procedure in Brussels that allowed legislation to survive even though most MEPs who cast a vote opposed it. That should alarm anyone who still believes the word "parliament" is supposed to mean something.

An Air Canada flight arriving from Los Angeles went off the runway after landing in Montreal on the afternoon of July 9, according to the airline.

The airline said no injuries have been reported, noting that the Boeing 737 Max had 156 passengers and six crew members aboard at the time of the incident at the Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL).

“Flight AC774 arriving from LAX on July 9, 2026 landed normally at Montreal International Airport. After exiting the main runway, the aircraft sustained a taxiway excursion and stopped in the grass. No injuries are reported,” Air Canada said in a July 9 statement to The Epoch Times.

The spokesperson for the airline said all passengers and crew were deplaned and taken to the terminal via shuttle buses.

“Plans are being made to tow the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft to the hangar where a full inspection will take place,” Air Canada wrote. “Air Canada is undertaking a detailed investigation into this incident, and will work with relevant authorities to determine the cause.”

The European Parliament formally backed the creation of a digital euro in a vote on July 9.

Lawmakers voted 416 in favor, 169 against, and 22 abstentions on the motion, which states that the parliament will negotiate for the digital euro to be issued by the European Central Bank (ECB) in upcoming talks with the president of the European Council, currently held by Ireland.

Along with backing the creation of the central bank digital currency (CBDC), the parliament’s negotiating team will push for it to provide a secure, private, and free-to-use means of payment, both online and offline.

It will also require most businesses to accept it, and for a cap to be placed on how many digital euros any individual can hold, as well as for basic services, such as opening an account, holding and managing funds, and access to at least one payment instrument, would be free of charge.

The parliament will also push for banks and payment service providers from non-euro EU countries to be allowed to distribute the digital euro, while ensuring that eurozone countries are obliged to keep cash accessible.

Under these terms, businesses would not be allowed to ban cash, and member states would have to regularly monitor cash availability, with special attention to vulnerable groups. Continue…

New Brunswick extends immigration pilot despite high unemployment (Video)

New Brunswick (NB), which has one of the highest unemployment rates in Canada, is extending one of its provincially regulated immigration pilots —to fill certain jobs with international students.

The Private Career College Graduate Pilot (PCCGP) targets international students from select colleges in NB who are enrolled in programs in "education and social development, health, IT and cybersecurity, business administration, and in supply chain and logistics."

They claim these new graduates must not be eligible for the feds' Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) program to qualify for the pilot.

This comes as Statistics Canada recently released the country's unemployment rates for June, with NB recording a 7.3% unemployment rate, a 0.1% increase from a month earlier.

NB's unemployment rate is even higher than Canada's overall rate, which was 6.5%.

The two eligible colleges for the program are Eastern College (EC) and Oulton College (OC).

EC programs eligible for the permit include, child and youth care and addictions support worker, early childhood education worker, personal support worker and medical administrative specialist.

OC programs include nursing, paramedic, medical laboratory assistant, educational assistant, and child and youth counselling.

NB mentions employers must meet eligibility criteria, with employers having to ensure the international student does "not take away job opportunities for Canadian citizens and permanent residents living in New Brunswick ('local residents')."

"Your employer must demonstrate a genuine need to hire a foreign national for the position offered to you," they state in the program guide.

The claim the job advertisement must be displayed publicly for at least four weeks within the last six months before the full-time job is offered to the foreign candidate.

The PGWP was first launched in 2022 and was meant to last three years, but was extended to "offer a potential pathway to international students already registered in specific programs of study who would not have graduated prior to the pilot’s original end date."
