NASA Tests FIFA World Cup 2026 Match Ball Trionda In ISS Microgravity Experiment | Video

Houston: The official match ball for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Trionda, has reached space, with astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) conducting experiments to study football dynamics and ball performance in microgravity.
Sharing images and details of the experiment, in a post on Instagram, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) said the ISS crew recreated a 2019 study using the Adidas-made Trionda football to examine how balance and centre of mass affect a ball's movement.
"The official FIFA World Cup ball went to space," NASA said, adding that sports engineers carefully measure and optimise a football's centre of mass and balance to ensure predictable movement during play.
According to the space agency, the crew repeated the experiment to demonstrate the effects of good and poor balance in football. The findings have helped researchers better understand how embedded technologies, including match-ball sensors, can influence performance on the field.
"Helping to improve the beautiful game is just one of the ways NASA science done on the International Space Station makes life better for people on Earth," NASA said in the post.
The Trionda is the official match ball of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and was developed by Adidas.
According to FIFA, the ball's name is derived from the Spanish phrase meaning "three waves", symbolising the first-ever FIFA World Cup to be jointly hosted by three nations - Canada, Mexico and the United States.
Its design features red, green and blue colours representing the three host countries, while a four-panel construction with fluid geometry forms a triangle at the centre of the ball, reflecting the unity of the host nations.
The ball also incorporates symbols associated with each country, including a maple leaf for Canada, an eagle for Mexico and a star for the United States.
FIFA said Trionda includes several technological innovations aimed at improving performance, including deep seams for enhanced flight stability and embossed surface details that improve grip in wet conditions.
The ball is also equipped with advanced connected-ball technology, featuring a 500Hz motion sensor chip that transmits real-time movement data to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system.
The technology is designed to assist match officials with decision-making, including offside calls and other key incidents during matches.
The experiment marks a unique intersection of sports science and space research, with the World Cup's official ball becoming the latest sporting equipment to be tested aboard the ISS.

The summer solstice has arrived, marking the start of astronomical summer and the longest day of 2026 in the northern hemisphere.
The summer solstice occurred at 4:24 a.m. EDT (0824 GMT) on June 21, as Earth's north pole reached its most extreme tilt towards the sun in its yearly orbit, bathing the northern hemisphere in its light.
As such, June 21 marks the start of astronomical summer, which is calculated based on the position of Earth relative to the sun, as opposed to meteorological summer, which is based on temperature and runs from the beginning of June through to the end of August.
How much sunlight will you get on the day of the summer solstice?
How much daylight you receive depends largely on your latitude. According to veteran meteorologist and Space.com columnist Joe Rao, it's all a question of latitude.
"At the equator, the time from sunrise to sunset is about 12 hours. At temperate or mid-northern latitudes (approximately 40 degrees north) the length of daylight lasts about 15 hours," said Rao in an article for Space.com
The effect of Earth's tilt is even more pronounced 66.5 degrees north of the equator in the Arctic Circle, where the sun won't set below the horizon at all, heralding a full 24 hours of daylight, often called the midnight sun.

SpaceX’s Falcon 9 is targeting the launch of 24 Starlink satellites to low-Earth orbit from Space Launch Complex 4 East (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
A live webcast of this mission will begin about 10 minutes prior to liftoff, which you can watch here and on X @SpaceX.
This will be the 33rd flight for the first stage booster supporting this mission, which previously launched Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich, DART, Transporter-7, Iridium OneWeb, SDA-0B, NROL-113, NROL-167, NROL-149, NAOS, and 23 Starlink missions.
Following stage separation, the first stage will land on the Of Course I Still Love You droneship, which will be stationed in the Pacific Ocean.
There is the possibility that residents of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura counties may hear one or more sonic booms during the launch, but what residents experience will depend on weather and other conditions.

Life and science in orbit: China's Shenzhou-23 crew continues busy work

While people on Earth enjoy the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, China's Shenzhen-23 crew – Zhu Yangzhu, Zhang Zhiyuan and Li Jiaying (also known as Lai Ka-ying) – remain busy working at the space station at an altitude of more than 400 kilometers.
During the past week, the Shenzhou-23 crew carried out a series of scientific experiments across multiple disciplines.
They used the space-based Raman spectrometer for their research on microbiome and nutritional metabolism, analyzing metabolites in urine samples to study how the gut microbiome changes during long-duration spaceflight and how it affects nutrient metabolism.
The trio also conducted behavioral experiments in visual motion processing and microgravity intuitive physics to explore how gravity influences visual information processing and the mechanisms behind the impacts of long-duration flight on intuitive physical perception and its recovery.
In addition, the astronauts carried out studies on in-orbit emotional recognition and evaluation, as well as testing of emergency decision-making capabilities, to understand the changing rules of emotional states and emergency response abilities.
Besides scientific experiments, the crew also performed maintenance tasks, including replacing experimental samples in fluid cabinets, disassembling and reassembling phase-two experiment modules, installing the infrared thermal imaging device, and processing downlink samples related to space-based symbiotic research on aquatic organisms and plants.
First in-orbit medical rescue training
Last week, the crew carried out their first in-orbit medical emergency training since entering orbit, focusing on adapting rescue procedures and force application techniques to a microgravity environment.
On the station's platform systems, they measured cabin airflow, temperature and air cleanliness, collected microbiological samples, inspected and maintained regenerative life-support systems, checked low-temperature storage equipment, and replaced a door in the core module's sleeping compartments.
For health management, the astronauts completed vision, intraocular pressure and fundus examinations. They also used a bone-loss countermeasure device for protective exercises.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who had negotiated a much-touted rare earth minerals deal with Kiev, was reportedly worried that the “little f**ker” Vladimir Zelensky would mess up the signing ceremony in the Oval Office, according to a new book by New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan.
The infamous confrontation last year took place as the Ukrainian leader sat down with US President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance to finalize a deal granting the US access to Ukraine’s mineral resources.
The televised press conference took a nasty turn when Zelensky criticized Trump’s efforts to mediate a settlement with Moscow rather than increase military support for Kiev.
I’ve dealt with this little f**ker,” Bessent, who was present in the room, told his associates, according to excerpts published by The Guardian. “He’s tricky. He’s like the special-needs child for the Europeans. And he’s acting like Mr. Bean on crack.”
The Treasury secretary spent weeks preparing the deal and traveled to Kiev, where he reportedly engaged in his own shouting match with Zelensky over the “awful” Ukrainian draft, at one point telling him: “What the f**k do you want to do?”
Several other Trump aides were also worried about a potential Oval Office scandal, with then-National Security Adviser Mike Waltz desperately urging Zelensky to at least “come wearing a suit.”
Zelensky was eventually “asked to leave” the White House, while the deal was signed without much fanfare two months later.
Zelensky, who has since held several meetings with Trump to mend ties and even started wearing a custom all-black, military-style suit jacket, remains “somewhat traumatized by his train crash” almost a year later, according to Politico.

Massive drone strikes rock Crimea, shutting down key bridge - VIDEO

A massive overnight barrage of Ukrainian drones has successfully struck the TES-Terminal-1 oil facility in the occupied Crimean port of Kerch.
The high-stakes operation has dealt a significant blow to the military logistics backbone supporting Russian forces on the peninsula.
The targeted facility serves as a vital artery for Moscow's war effort, managing the receiving, storage, and transshipment of petroleum products between rail lines, storage tanks, and maritime tankers.
Crucially, the terminal also refuels vessels and powers the ferry crossing over the Kerch Strait, connecting mainland Russia to occupied Crimea.
Following the strikes, multiple large fires broke out at the port terminal, forcing regional authorities to completely suspend civilian fuel sales at Crimean gas stations to preserve dwindling stocks for state and military use.
The strategic strike was part of a broader, coordinated campaign by Ukraine's Unmanned Systems and Special Operations Forces targeting assets roughly 300 kilometers behind the front lines.
In addition to targeting maritime fuel hubs on both sides of the Kerch Strait, the wave of drones successfully knocked out key Russian air defenses shielding the area, damaging four radar stations belonging to advanced S-400 systems and destroying two Pantsir missile units.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that targets in Russia’s Krasnodar region and in annexed Crimea had been attacked.
In a Facebook post, Zelensky said that “last night, our long-range sanctions were applied against the occupiers’ military logistics, oil industry and air defense systems.
Facilities on both sides of the Crimean Bridge were hit: maritime logistics used for transporting oil in Krasnodar region and an oil depot in temporarily occupied Kerch.”
Zelensky also added that Russian military logistics facilities were struck, along with four radar stations that are part of S-400 systems and two Pantsir air defense systems.

Ferry services across the Kerch crossing have been temporarily suspended from June 21, the press service of the operational headquarters of Russia’s Krasnodar region reported.
Since heavy trucks are banned from using the Crimean Bridge, drivers have been advised to take an alternative land route along the R-280 highway through Rostov-on-Don, Taganrog, as well as occupied Mariupol, Melitopol and Simferopol.
It was also reported that, starting June 21, fuel sales at gas stations in annexed Crimea have been suspended for both cash and non-cash payments.
Russia-appointed “head of the region” Sergey Aksyonov said fuel would be supplied only to “state services” responsible for maintaining the vital functions and security of Crimea.
Earlier, Sevastopol’s Russia-appointed “governor” Mikhail Razvozhayev said fuel supplies to the city had been delayed. According to his Telegram post, petrol and diesel will not be sold using QR codes at TES gas stations on Sunday.
“At the moment, refueling is being carried out exclusively for emergency service vehicles. I will provide further updates on the situation,” Razvozhayev wrote.
The “authorities” in Sevastopol also introduced temporary phased power outages following a drone attack, Razvozhayev said.

Four people were killed and 28 others injured as a result of a Ukrainian drone attack on the Kerch Peninsula, Russian-installed Crimea head Sergey Aksyonov said.
Ukraine has not officially commented on the attack so far.
The operational headquarters of Russia’s Krasnodar region earlier reported that drones had struck the Panagia ferry at the Kerch ferry crossing in the Temryuk district. According to preliminary data, one person was killed and another was injured.

Strait of Hormuz remains closed to all ships 'until further notice' - report
The Strait of Hormuz remains closed and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has not issued permission for any vessels to transit until further notice, Iran's Fars News Agency reported on Sunday, citing a military source.

The national Civil Defense Alert platform sent out bizarre emergency warnings due to an apparent hack
Thousands of Brazilians in a number of states were shocked and puzzled by emergency alerts sent to their cell phones in the middle of the night, some containing gibberish while others warned them to brace for an imminent alien attack.
The false alarms were sent between Friday night and early Saturday morning through Brazil’s Civil Defense Alert platform, a system normally reserved for serious warnings about floods, landslides, storms, and other emergencies.
People in several cities were awakened by ‘extreme alert’ notifications containing the word ‘misanthropy’ – meaning hatred or distrust of humanity – while others received messages that sounded less like public safety advice and more like the opening scene of a low-budget sci-fi film.
“Protect yourself: ALIEN ATTACK. Humans, we have arrived,” read the message received by some residents of Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais state, according to G1 Globo. Another version warned of a supposed tornado in the metropolitan region.
There was, officials later clarified, no alien invasion. The real emergency, according to the National Civil Defense, was much more earthly: The alert platform had apparently been compromised.
The agency said the system was taken offline at 1:30 AM on Saturday after an unauthorized third party remotely triggered alerts to several regions of the country. The Federal Police launched a probe, as technicians work to restore the platform.
For many Brazilians, the first response was not concern but memes. Others were less amused, noting that the same alert system is supposed to warn people of real disasters and that a false ‘extreme’ message in the middle of the night could easily cause panic.
Residents in Belo Horizonte reportedly called Civil Defense, firefighters, and police in search of explanations after the alerts blared on their phones.
Some said they woke family members or looked for safer rooms after seeing the tornado warning, while others quickly suspected a hoax after reading the extraterrestrial portion of the message.
The incident came at an awkwardly cosmic moment. Just days earlier, the Pentagon released another batch of declassified files on unidentified anomalous phenomena, the official term for UFOs, including witness accounts, photos, and videos of unexplained objects.
That release, however, came with the usual caveat that unexplained does not mean extraterrestrial. The Pentagon has maintained that the material contains no confirmed evidence of alien life, alien technology, or a government cover-up.

Aliens, Satoshi, and Bitcoin: How the extraterrestrial theory emerged

As Polymarket users place bets on the disclosure of extraterrestrial life, the crypto community occasionally revisits one of its most unusual legends: that Bitcoin was given to humanity by aliens.
As far-fetched as it sounds, the theory has circulated for years. Its longevity has less to do with belief in UFOs than with the enduring mystery surrounding Satoshi Nakamoto's identity.
Over the years, Bitcoin has inspired countless unconventional theories, ranging from artificial intelligence and time travelers to secret intelligence agencies.
Yet the alien hypothesis remains one of the most persistent and continues to resurface from time to time. Several years ago, CoinDesk even published a tongue-in-cheek column titled Aliens Exist. And They Use Cryptocurrency.
Rather than arguing that extraterrestrials are real, the author suggested that if an interplanetary economy ever emerged, digital currencies would make far more sense than traditional money.
When mystery becomes myth
It all begins with a question that still has no definitive answer: who is Satoshi Nakamoto?
In 2008, an unknown author using that pseudonym published the Bitcoin white paper, helped launch the network, and then disappeared from public view a few years later.
Since then, numerous attempts have been made to uncover Nakamoto's identity, but none has produced convincing evidence.
That information vacuum created fertile ground for increasingly unconventional theories.
Some proposed Satoshi was an intelligence operative; others believed the name represented a group of researchers, while figures such as Craig Wright even claimed to be Nakamoto themselves.
The most extraordinary theory, however, argues that Nakamoto was never human at all. According to its supporters, the name concealed a representative of an extraterrestrial civilization, and Bitcoin was a technology introduced to humanity from beyond Earth.
The case for the alien theory
Strip away the science-fiction element, and the arguments offered by supporters of the theory generally revolve around a handful of recurring claims.
The primary one is Nakamoto's identity. To this day, no one knows who created Bitcoin, while wallets believed to belong to Satoshi—holding an estimated one million BTC—have remained almost completely inactive for more than 15 years.
Supporters of the alien theory consider this highly unusual. If someone created an entirely new financial system and became one of the wealthiest individuals in history, why would they disappear without a trace and never touch their fortune?
Another frequently cited argument concerns Bitcoin's architecture. Advocates believe the system appeared remarkably sophisticated for its time.
They point to the absence of a central authority, a monetary issuance schedule mapped out more than a century into the future, and the network's ability to function without any administrator.
In their view, this combination of features makes the technology seem as though it arrived ahead of its era.

A similar observation appeared in an article published on Medium.
Its author reflected on Bitcoin's architecture, arguing that the network's design is genuinely extraordinary and expressing surprise that such a system could have originated from a human mind.
The case against extraterrestrial origins
As compelling as the story may sound, there is no credible evidence supporting it.
First, Bitcoin did not emerge in isolation. Long before the white paper was published, projects such as Hashcash, b-money, Bit Gold, and several other cryptographic digital cash proposals had already laid much of the conceptual groundwork.
Rather than inventing everything from scratch, Satoshi combined existing ideas with original engineering solutions into a functioning system.
In other words, Bitcoin was the product of decades of cryptographic research, not the sudden appearance of an unknown technology.
Second, an innovative architecture is not evidence of extraterrestrial origins. Many engineering breakthroughs have been well ahead of their time, reflecting exceptional expertise rather than visitors from another civilization.
Finally, Satoshi's disappearance proves nothing by itself. It remains one of the most fascinating mysteries in modern technology, but it does not validate any of the countless theories surrounding Nakamoto's identity, whether they involve aliens, intelligence agencies, or anything else.
If not aliens, then artificial intelligence?
Over time, the extraterrestrial theory gained an unusual rival. Several years ago, a popular UFO-focused channel proposed a different explanation: Bitcoin, it claimed, was created not by an alien but by a highly advanced artificial intelligence.
According to this hypothesis, Satoshi Nakamoto never existed. Instead, the pseudonym allegedly belonged to a self-improving AI that deliberately released Bitcoin's source code so humanity would build a vast global computing infrastructure on its behalf.
As the network expanded, the theory suggests, the AI would gain access to increasingly powerful computational resources.
This idea is no less speculative than the alien theory. Yet both narratives illustrate the same underlying pattern: as long as Satoshi Nakamoto's identity remains unknown, speculation will continue to fill the gaps left by the absence of facts.
And the longer that mystery endures, the more extraordinary the theories surrounding Bitcoin's origin are likely to become.

Bryce Zabel and Brent Friedman, creators of the 1996 NBC alien-themed series Dark Skies, say a man claiming to be Naval Intelligence showed up at their own premiere party already knowing what was in their unaired pilot, and offered them a trade: classified access for guidance on their future scripts.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Poltergeist Director Tobe Hooper told Brent that Steven Spielberg got the same offer after Jaws, took the deal, and went on to make Close Encounters and E.T..
Separately, Brent Friedman says his family friend John Herrington who later became Secretary of Energy (Head of the entire Department of Energy) told him privately after a few drinks that aliens are real and he’s seen them.
Official attempts have been made to get Herrington (now 87) to testify about these claims, but he’s ignored them. Friedman himself also reports of having had an encounter with a “Nordic” alien being.
