Support for UK monarchy hits record low – poll

More young Britons believe the UK would be better off as a republic than a monarchy, an Ipsos survey has suggested

Published 21 Jun, 2026 20:28 |

Public support for the British monarchy has fallen to its lowest level in over three decades, a new poll has suggested.Just under half of Britons still favor removing the monarchy, with support particularly weak among younger people.

Support for the monarchy has steadily declined since reaching a peak of 80% in 2012and fell to 55% in 2026, according to data published by Ipsos on Friday. The figure is the lowest recorded by the market researchand polling company since it began tracking the issue in 1993 and is well below the long-term average of 71%.

Support hasdeclined across all age groups but is particularly low among Britons aged 18-34where only a third of respondents said they favor the monarchy – roughly half the level recorded in 2013. According to Ipsos,45% of people in that age group would prefer the UK to become a republic instead.

Satisfaction with King Charles and his heir, Prince William, remains high, the poll suggested as 60% and 71% of respondents respectively said they liked the way the king and the prince were doing their jobs.

The monarchy’s popularity took a hit over one of the Royal family member’s long-standing association to late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The now former Prince Andrew, King Charles’ brother, was initially accused in 2014 of being one of the persons the disgraced financier sex-trafficked woman to.

Andrew settled a civil lawsuit with one of the sex-trafficking victims, Virginia Giuffre, in 2022, while still denying all the allegations. In 2026, the British police opened a criminal case against him after a release of additional files in the Epstein case suggested that he allegedly provided confidential government information to the convicted sex offender.

Buckingham Palace commented on the case in February by saying that the Royal family was ready to support the probe“if we are approached by Thames Valley Police”and adding that the king’s “thoughts and sympathies have been, and remain with, the victims of any and all forms of abuse.”

According to a poll conducted by YouGov in April,Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor remains the most disliked member of the family by a wide margin, with over 90% of Britons having a “negative” or “very negative” view of him.

Theinfluence of the British monarchy abroad has also declined in recent years, with some former British colonies considering severing their remaining ties to the Crown.Barbados became the most recent Caribbean nation to become a republic in 2021 while remaining within Britain’s Commonwealth.

A survey conducted by former Conservative Party deputychairman Michael Ashcroft in 2023 suggested that six of the 14 overseas countries within the Commonwealth realm – including Canada and Australia – would prefer to ditch the monarchy.

(I’m sure the King telling the UK how many millions if not billions he pays in taxes, is an only a small portion of what he earns. Did he really think reporting his taxes would make them believe he wasn’t filthy rich? Whoever advised him was not brilliant!)

The King has never really cared what the serfs thought. He wants euthanasia for the poor. Queen Elizabeth was the end, she was capable of faking out the people for decades.

IDF captures Hezbollah drone factory and launch site hidden inside south Lebanon mountain

MAJDAL ZOUN, Lebanon — Buried beneath a hilltop village in southern Lebanon, just kilometers from the Israeli border, the Hezbollah terror group built an underground drone “airbase” from which it launched Iranian-made unmanned aerial vehicles at Israel.

The subterranean facility, guarded by massive steel blast doors, was built in the past decade with direct Iranian assistance, including planning and funding, Israeli military officials told The Times of Israel during an organized media tour of the site last week.

Journalists were brought into Lebanon at dusk, so that the visit to the tunnel would take place under the cover of darkness — an attempt by the military to mitigate the possibility of Hezbollah attacks on members of the press.

As the sun set over the Mediterranean, reporters were driven in a convoy of Humvees along the Lebanese coast before heading east toward Majdal Zoun, some six kilometers (3.7 miles) from the Israeli frontier.

With just the moonlight and glowsticks to illuminate the way, soldiers led the group to the tunnel’s main entrance, which was accessible from the ground level on the north side of the mountain.

The tunnel and surrounding area, which was delineated as part of the southern Lebanon security zone buffer area in an updated IDF map Thursday, were captured this month by a reservist commando and paratroopers formation.

The operation took place amid a porous ceasefire in which both Israel and Hezbollah have continued to attack each other.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, the tunnel runs several hundred meters into the mountain, reaching depths of 29 meters (95 feet) under Majdal Zoun — including beneath a mosque.

The IDF has uncovered similar Hezbollah tunnels in southern Lebanon in the past, but commanders said this one was built to a “much higher standard,” comparable with an underground Iranian missile factory in Syria that the military raided in September 2024.

Soldiers and officers were made available to the tour on condition of anonymity, in line with military protocol.

Inside the tunnel, which was wide enough for a standard vehicle to drive through, Hezbollah had assembled Iranian-made drones using parts smuggled into Lebanon, according to the army.

Iran, which has invested heavily in drone development and production, has long been understood to supply its Lebanese proxy group with missiles and other arms meant to be used against Israel.

After capturing the tunnel, soldiers found around 50 UAVs with warheads of around 30 kilograms (66 pounds) of explosives apiece, officers said.

The drones appeared to be of the same type used in attacks on Israel, such as a deadly October 2024 strike on the Golani Brigade’s training base. They can typically fly 200 to 500 kilometers (125 to 310 miles), enough to reach all of Israel, according to IDF officials. Military analyst Fabian Hinz identified the UAVs as an Iranian drone design, known as the Qasef in the service of the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen.

The capture of the tunnel marked the first time that the IDF had access to fully intact Iranian drones of this kind, providing the military with valuable intelligence, one officer told The Times of Israel.

The drones, in various states of assembly, were placed on display along the tunnel’s concrete walls for journalists on the tour to see.

In addition to the UAVs, the troops found around eight tons of explosive material in the underground site’s rooms, according to the army. Continued…

Netanyahu says Israeli strikes created opening to topple Iran's rulers

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that Israel's military operations against Iran had created conditions for the eventual fall of the Islamic Republicand urged Iranians to seize the opportunity to overthrow their government.(is he kidding, first was it really Israel that did this, and does he really think the Iranians citizen can overtake the government?)

Netanyahu made the remarks at the Jerusalem News Syndicate (JNS) International Policy Summit, where he argued that Israeli and US actions had severely damaged Iran's nuclear program, military capabilities and regional allies.

Netanyahu said Israel had prevented Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, destroyed nuclear infrastructure and killed senior nuclear scientists through operations conducted over the past year. He also saidIsraeli strikes had severely damaged the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corpsand weakened Iran's regional allies. (Iran doesn’t have any regional Allie’s)

The Israeli leader said the operationsmarked a shift in Israel's security doctrine, allowing direct military action inside Iran against nuclear, missile and other targets.

Netanyahu also highlighted Israeli operations against Hezbollah and Hamas, including the killing of senior leaders and attacks on military infrastructure. He said Israel would maintain security zones in Gaza, Syria and Lebanon for as long as necessary.

“We established a security zone in Lebanon, and we shall keep it as long as necessary to protect our people,” Netanyahu said.

Israel plans on taking over all of Lebanon, not for the people but for Israel. This whole speech was filled with twisted stories.

Iran delegation refused joint photo with US team, source says

The Iranian negotiating team refused to take part in a planned joint photo opportunity with the US delegation before talks in Geneva, a source close to the negotiations told Tasnim News Agency.

The source said US officials and organizers had planned a handshake and group photo between the two sides, but the Iranian delegation declined to participate. Following the objection, the live broadcast and photo session went ahead without the Iranian team, which entered the venue afterward. The source added that the US delegation requested a five-minute delay for reporters to leave the negotiations site before talks began.

Exclusive — Leading UN Secretary General Candidate Macky Sall Backs ‘Peace Builder’ Donald Trump’s Push for Reforms: ‘Make the UN Great Again’

Matthew Boyle21 Jun 2026

WASHINGTON — Macky Sall, the former President of Senegal and a leading candidate to be the next Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), told Breitbart News exclusivelyhe supports American President Donald Trump’s push to reform the UN and wants to, as Trump and his team say, “Make the UN Great Again.”

“My first message to President Trump is first to congratulate him for his action on peace,” Sall said in a phone interview ahead of a recent trip to Washington.“He’s a peace builder, even if sometimes we have some problems today with Iran, but what he did is huge on one year of peace in the world, around the world, and he has to continue this process to be and to stay a peace builder.

The second is United States are the first power in the world to be with the UN, they need to be with the UN,but the UN also should be reformed to be efficient and with other member states together we can build a better UN, or to MUNGA — we can Make the UN Great Again.”

Sall is one of several candidates to succeed António Guterres as Secretary General of the United Nations. The election will happen in the fall at the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in September and is a complicated process by which candidates will need to survive any vetoes from U.N. Security Council members and then gain enough support from leaders around the world to win. Whoever wins will take over in January and serve a five-year term. Sall, whose nation Senegal is very close with France, has support from the French and makes clear he has close relations from his time as president with all of the major world leaders especially the permanent Security Council members, which are the called the P5 of the United States, Russia, China, France, and the United Kingdom. The fact that Sall is openly embracing the idea of “MUNGA,” or “Make the UN Great Again,” is a significant development that closely mirrors what Trump and his team are trying to do at the behemoth world diplomacy forum that they argue has lost its way. Late last year, Trump’s U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz sat for a lengthy exclusive interview with Breitbart News on the floor of the UNGA to detail the vision for MUNGA — Making the UN Great Again — in which he explained a lot of this has to do with spending cuts and eliminating woke or redundant mandates.

Sall, in his interview with Breitbart News, openly embraced that vision. Sall, who was president of Senegal for 12 years and previously served in key positions throughout his country’s government and also served as President of the African Union and of ECOWAS, argues that the United States’s warnings must be heeded by the United Nations if the UN is to survive.

“It is possible, with the support of the member states, to make this reform,” Sall told Breitbart News. “I have the capacity as a political leader. I can be secretary, but also general if necessary to bring the big powers to talk together, because we need at the UN—even if today I agree with the U.S. position—we need to reform the UN, we need to optimize the reform, we need to avoid the overlapping of the mandate, and also to be more sufficient on the budgetso if people want someone who is able to be a very independent secretary general and very able to work closely and diplomatically and not to be on the press all time but who can also talk with people on the right way I think I will be also the best partner for the United States. Of course, I know the U.S. was the one who created the UN after the Second World War, and I think with the role of the United Nations, the United States is to continue to be a leader on this organization. Of course, we need to reform, we need to optimize the management, and to cut the cost that I’m sure if I have the support of United States, I can work very closely and put them together with the other partners—particularly Europe, Asia, China and Russia and Africa.”

Sall argues his history has him uniquely positions to confront these major challenges the United Nations faces today. He said his time as President of Senegalbrought him close with Trump, but also with Chinese President Xi Jinping and with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He maintains close relations, too, with the French and has been to Paris to meet President Emmanuel Macron multiple times in recent months….

Vance Lands in Switzerland for Iran Talks as Strait of Hormuz Tensions Boil

Joshua Klein21 Jun 20261/2

Vice President JD Vance arrived in Switzerland on Sunday morning for the first direct U.S.-Iran talks since the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

The negotiations will play out against a backdrop of rising tensions over the Strait of Hormuz and renewed fighting between the Iran-backed Hezbollah terrorist group and Israel threatened to upend the fragile diplomatic process.

Speaking before departing, Vance saidthe talks would focus on advancing negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program and shoring up the fragile ceasefire in Lebanon, where escalating violence forced the postponement of the discussions from Friday.

“I think we’re going to hopefully make progress on the nuclear issue, make progress on the Lebanon ceasefire issue,” Vance told reporters. “Those are the two big things that I think we’re going to be focused on.”

Vance said the initial meetings were aimed at establishing the structure of negotiations, while technical-level discussions could continue in Switzerland after the high-level talks conclude.

Vance said he expected to remain in Switzerland “for a day or two” and indicated that the initial round of meetings would be focused on laying the groundwork for broader negotiations that could extend beyond the high-level discussions.

President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff had already arrived in Switzerland ahead of the talks. Vance said he had spoken with both men and that, “My understanding is that things are going well.”

A high-level Iranian delegation also traveled to Switzerland on Saturday.Iranian media reported that the delegation is being led by parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and includes Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, senior security officials, and central bank and oil officials.

Pakistan and Qatar, which helped mediate the interim agreement between Washington and Tehran, are also participating in the discussions. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir departed Islamabad for Switzerland on Saturday accompanied by a high-level delegation.

The talks were originally scheduled to begin Friday but were delayed after a new escalation in Lebanon threatened to derail the diplomatic process.

Iran said Saturday that it had closed the Strait of Hormuz because of Israeli military operations in Lebanon, accusing the United States of failing to uphold commitments contained in the memorandum of understanding, which calls for the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.

Iran’s top military command described the closure as the “first step” in response to what it characterized as breaches of commitmentsby Washington and Israel. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy also warned ships not to approach the strategic waterway.

The United States quickly disputed Iran’s claim that it had effectively shut the strategic waterway.

“Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz. Traffic continues to flow, and U.S. forces are monitoring the situation to ensure this remains the case,” U.S. Central Command spokesman Capt. Tim Hawkins said.

CENTCOM said 55 merchant ships carrying more than 17 million barrels of oil transited the strait on Saturday.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei warned that “the memorandum of understanding as a whole will be jeopardized” if key commitments are not fulfilled.

An official from the Iran-backed Hezbollah terrorist organization told The Associated Press that Tehran would not reopen the strait unless Israel publicly commits to a comprehensive ceasefire in Lebanon and ends military operations there.

Israeli Ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter said Fridaythat Israel “remains firmly committed to an immediate ceasefire” and that “if Hezbollah honors the agreement and ceases its hostilities, they will be met with quiet.”

Israeli officials said Hezbollah launched more than 50 projectiles at Israeli forces overnight and that five Israeli soldiers had been killed in southern Lebanon over the previous 48 hours.

Trump also weighed in on the growing dispute over the strategic waterway, writing Saturday on Truth Social that there would be “NO TOLLS in the Hormuz Strait for 60 days during the Cease Fire Period.”

The president added that no tolls would be imposed afterward either, “unless they are imposed by and for the United States of America, should the deal not be completed, for services rendered as the Guardian Angel to the countries of the Middle East.”

The interim memorandum signed last week established a 60-day negotiating window aimed at reaching a broader agreement on Iran’s nuclear program and other unresolved issues.

Vance also argued that Washington enters the talks from a position of strength, saying on Fox & Friends that “the United States wins either way” and that the outcome of negotiations is “very much up to the Iranians.”

Do they want to behave better? If so, great. If they don’t want to behave better, the President of the United States still has a whole lot of options from here,” he said.

Jonathan Turley Says Trump May Lose 'Super Bowl' SCOTUS Case

Harold Hutchison1/2

George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley said during a Sunday panel discussion that President Donald Trumpwould likely lose a significant case central to his strategy to combat illegal immigration.

Trump attended theSupreme Court’s April 1 oral arguments for a case involving his executive order ending birthright citizenship, the first time a sitting president ever did so.Turley, describing birthright citizenship as “a uniquely bad idea,” said the lines of questioning by some of the justices during oral arguments didn’t look good for the Trump administration’s chances.

“I think that’s true,” Turley said after “Fox News Sunday” host Shannon Bream, who also covers the Supreme Court, predicted the Trump administration would lose that case.“The oral argument did not give a lot of room for hope, particularly with [Chief Justice John] Roberts coming out right away and expressing skepticism. The question is whether anything happened during conference.”

WATCH:

“We’ve seen cases change after conference in the drafting,” Turley continued. “Roberts himself is often believed to have switched his vote on the individual mandate in the Obamacare case at the last minute. So it does happen, but most of us are expecting this is probably going to be a loss for the administration.”

Trump issued the executive order concerning birthright citizenship when he took office to begin his second presidential term January 20, 2025. He won a Supreme Court decision concerning nationwide injunctions against this order in June 2025.

https://dailycaller.com/2026/06/21/jonathan-turley-tom-dupree-offers-fox-news-shannon-bream-predictions-birthright-citizenship-late-election-day-ballots-supreme-court-cases/

2/2

Fellow panelist Tom Dupree, a former principal deputy assistant attorney general, agreed, saying it probably would ultimately take a constitutional amendment to end birthright citizenship in the United States, adding that many courts held that the 14th Amendment set that standard.

“I think the administration knew going into this that this was going to be a heavy lift for them, precisely for that reason,”Dupree said. “Judges year after year, decade after decade, have said that birthright citizenship is enshrined in our Constitution. I don’t think there’s going to be a change at the last minute.”

Turley said he expected a better outcome for the Trump administration in cases centered on men participating in women’s sports and mail-in ballots that arrived after Election Day. After predicting that those seeking to have biological sex determine who would participate in women’s sports would have “a good day,” Turley noted the Court would likely shut down counting late-arriving ballots.

“I think, from oral arguments, it seemed to me that they were going to say that ‘federal election day’ means election day, and having this debacle in California — extending the counting for so long — only sort of reaffirms the logic of that,” Turley said. “Now, this is for federal elections. So for dual election — state and federal — it can get a little bit wicked if you want to try to give people extra time. But if the Court rules that ‘Election Day’ means election day, those ballots have got to be in on that day.”

Republicans expressed skepticism after socialist Los Angeles mayoral candidate Nithya Raman pulled ahead of reality star Spencer Pratt on the strength of “late ballot drops.” Dupree, who worked in the Office of Legal Counsel at the Justice Department, said the ruling could have another effect.

“It definitely would call into question the permissibility of early voting. I think for this case, this decision, it only concerns those late-arriving ballots, so I think this decision is going to be somewhat narrow in that sense,” Dupree said. “But you’re absolutely right that if the Court says ‘Election Day’ means Election Day — everything’s got to be done on this one particular day — arguably it would call into question early voting because those are coming in before Election Day.”

The end of the Supreme Court’s 2025–2026 term, which Bream likened to the “Super Bowl” due to the significance of the yet-to-be-released decisions, is expected to occur in late June or early July.

MAGA Influencers Are Wearing Out Their White House Welcome

The White House has compiled a secret “blacklist” of prominent MAGA influencers who have been accused of taking money to post social media content aimed at shifting the discourse on important political issues or offering access to President Donald Trump, the Daily Mail reported Thursday.

The White House is now monitoring signs that influencers may have been paid off by domestic or foreign lobbies to target the president and his supporters, according to the Daily Mail. The outlet named MAGA influencers C.J. Pearson, Rob Smith, Arynne Wexler, Emily Wilson and Ryan Fournier, co-founder of Students for Trump, as among the alleged offenders.

“I just have utter contempt for them, there’s a whole group of them, they share business, they refer each other, they inflate their connections, andthey travel in packs,” a source close to the White House told the outlet.

Wilson, known as “Emily Saves America,” has vehemently denied taking money from a foreign lobby.

“Who pays me? I’m independent. Very easy to prove where my money comes from literally my brand deals I post. Nice try b***h,” she wrote to a critic, according to the Daily Mail.

Pearson is currently registered as a foreign agent for the Bahamas under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA).

“CJ is not paid to post for or against any foreign nation,” a spokesman told the Daily Mail. “As a proud American, CJ follows the law. Therefore, in compliance with FARA, he registered.”

Pro-Israel activist Laura Loomer has also drawn fierce scrutiny for her smear campaigns targeting critics of the Israeli state, but told the Daily Mail she has taken no money from its government. (We know that’s a lie.)

“How does supporting Israel, like being in support of Israel’s right to defend itself, make me a foreign agent? I don’t take money from foreign governments,” she said.

Another major figure in the MAGA influencer world is Brad Parscalewho worked on the 2016 and 2020 Trump campaigns andis now connected to several influencer firms that pay online figures, according to the Daily Mail.

Parscale is currently a registered foreign agent for Israel and is paid by the Israeli government to push pro-Israel views at Salem Media Group, where he works as a chief strategy officer. Salem Media Group owns 117 radio stations in 38 markets, as well as the conservative news sites Townhall, RedState, Hot Air and PJ Media.

Parscale’s firm hasreceived $15 million from Havas Media Network, a PR group working for the Israeli government, the Daily Mail reported, citing FARA documents. The firm will receive $4.5 million a month between April 1 and Oct. 31, for a total of $46.5 million, the outlet reported.

Alex Bruesewitz, an adviser to Trump, brought attention to foreign influence campaigns Thursday amid a CNN report that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was planning to enlist the help of right-wing commentators, including Mark Levin, and pro-Israel U.S. lawmakers to sabotage negotiations with Iran.

“Right-wing social media influencers and television and radio punditsshould be required to disclose any relationships with foreign governments seeking to influence President Trump and other U.S. officials,” Bruesewitz said.

“PS:I’m aware that Israel isn’t the only country doing this, but this is the most consequential example at the moment. We need foreign influence out of our political commentary,or at the very least, far stricter disclosure laws!” he added.

In September 2025, Netanyahu met with a group of pro-Israel influencers to discuss an online messaging campaign, paid for by a firm working on behalf of the Israeli government.Influencers reportedly received $7,000 per post on social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

Judge Rejects Biden’s Bid To Bury Ghostwriter Tapes, Then Pauses Release For Appeal6/20/26

A federal judge refused to keep former President Joe Biden’s recorded interviews with his ghostwriter under wraps, then froze her own ruling hours later to let an appeals court weigh in.

U.S. District Judge Dabney Friedrich denied Biden’s request for a preliminary injunction on June 19.The ruling cleared the Justice Department to release redacted audio and transcripts to the Heritage Foundation and the House Judiciary Committee, according to the court’s memorandum opinion.Friedrich found Biden unlikely to win his case and ruled that the department’s choice to release the files was not an abuse of discretion, the opinion states. She wrote that heavy redactions had shrunk his privacy stake, leaving material that no longer touched on family, illness or death.

“Biden has not identified any public harm that would arise absent an injunction in this case,” Friedrich wrote in the opinion.

The reprieve came fast. Biden’s attorneys filed an emergency motion the same afternoon, and Friedrich granted a three-week pauseso the D.C. Circuit could decide whether to step in, according toCBS News. His lawyers argued that handing over the recordings would trigger permanent damage, telling the court the disclosure “cannot be undone,” CBS reported.

The fight traces back to a Freedom of Information Act request the Heritage Foundation lodged in March 2024, seeking records behind Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report on Biden’s handling of classified documents, according to CBS. Hur declined to charge Biden but described his taped sessions with Mark Zwonitzer as “painfully slow, with Mr. Biden struggling to remember events and straining at times to read and relay his own notebook entries,” CBS reported.

The Biden-era Justice Department had fought to keep the files sealed under Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) exemptions before the Trump administration reversed that stance, according to CBS.A separate Biden lawsuit aimed at blocking the congressional handover remains undecidedbefore another judge, ABC News reported. A spokesperson for Biden declined to comment on the ruling or the stay.

US Reveals Concern That China Now Has Top Chip Making Tools

The Trump administration is reportedlyconcerned that a cutting-edge European chipmaking tool may have ended up in Beijing’s hands.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told semiconductor company ASML in a recent meeting that he worried one of their chip-printing machines was sold to China, sources familiar with the discussions toldBloomberg. ASML has never been allowed to ship the extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) machines to China due to export controls enacted during President Donald Trump’s first term.

ASML has denied reportsthat it shipped any EUV machinery to China, Reuters reported on Friday.

“ASML has never shipped an EUV machine to China nor have we shipped to China any component, module or equipment specially designed to be used in an EUV machine,” the company told Reuters in a statement.

An ASML spokesperson and the Commerce Department each did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

“EUV lithography does big things on a tiny scale,” according to ASML’s website. “The technology, which is unique to ASML, prints microchips using light with a wavelength of just 13.5 nm – almost x-ray range.”

The U.S. government has notably aimed to strengthen export controls of advanced semiconductors since 2018 as part of a broader effort to restrict China’s ability to produce advanced chips and other artificial intelligence technology. A December 2025 report by TrendForce projected that China’s high-end AI chip market will expand by more than 60% in 2026.

The House Select Committee on China published an investigation in April whichalleges that the country uses “both legal and illegal” methods to produce its own semiconductor productionand develop AI technology. China lawfully secures large quantities of advanced AI chips and also “utilizes sophisticated smuggling networks to acquire restricted AI chips,” according to the committee’s report.

There have also been various reports in recent years of the Chinese government attempting to steal the U.S. and other nations’ intellectual property.

Multiple companies are supporting a bill that would mandate advanced U.S. AI chips to includeenhanced security features to prevent them from entering foreign countries such as China, NBC News first reported Thursday.

Good read

What the Iran MOU Is Really All About

It’s not Israel. It’s not even Iran. Look closer to home.1/3

At this point, everyone is familiar with the 14 points of the Memorandum of Understanding between President Trump and remnants of Iran’s power structure. The document appears to use careful, ambiguous diplomatic language, but it actually serves as a raw political instrument. To decipher its true meaning, one must strip away the mannerly phrasing and read it in the plain political lexicon — the language of power, elections, and survival.

Article 1 states that midterm elections in America will take place in November 2026.

Article 2 specifies that they will occur on November 3, 2026.

Article 3 notes that these elections are nearly four months away.

Article 4 calculates the remaining time as approximately 20 weeks.

Articles 5 through 14 continue in the same vein: They emphasize the narrowing window and the need for visible results before voters go to the polls. They manifest the importance of avoiding distractions that could shift media focus. Finally, they raised the requirement that any international agreements produce measurable domestic benefits in time for Election Day.

The document never says these things directly. Instead, it speaks of “regional de-escalation,” “energy market stabilization,” and “confidence-building measures.” Translated into the realpolitikdomain, however, every clause points to one overriding objective: securing a conservative majority in Congress on November 3, 2026.

Basically, these articles make the metric explicit. To win those elections, the average price of gasoline across the United States must remain below $4 per gallon — roughly less than $1 per liter. That single number has become the administration’s key performance indicator for the next four months.

This translation reveals the central truth the Memorandum aimed to obscure: The primary threat to American national security at this moment is not Iran. On the contrary, it is the possibility that the Democrat party regains control of Congress.

In Israel, reactions to the Memorandum have often veered into panic. However, the parallel threat for Israel is not Tehran, but the ideological and political allies of American left-wingers who seek to constrain Israeli freedom of action. Commentators who have followed American and Israeli politics for years have long outlined this dynamic. Many were shocked by the blunt, almost mechanical way the highest levels executed the calculation.

President Trump remains the strongest supporter of Israel the White House has seen in decades. He moved the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, recognized the Golan Heights, and brokered the Abraham Accords. Yet he is the president of the United States, not of Israel.

Losing the Republicans’ congressional majorities in 20 weeks will weaken, or even turn off, the legislative and oversight tools Trump’s administration has used to pursue the “America First” agenda. Investigations and impeachments will multiply, and funding for border security and military modernization will face constant resistance. Most likely, Democrats will pull foreign policy back toward the multilateral frameworks they favored in previous administrations. Trump’s signature on the Memorandum with Iran is therefore not primarily about Iran at all. It is about locking in enough momentum and public support so that even a narrowed majority — or the threat of one — cannot easily reverse the structural changes already underway.

The principal perceptible and immediate lever for achieving that momentum is energy prices. American voters feel gasoline costs at the pump every week. When prices rise sharply, approval ratings for the party in power tend to decline, regardless of other economic indicators. Historical patterns (recall 2008, 2012, and particularly 2021–2022) demonstrate how quickly pocketbook pain translates into midterm losses. The $4-per-gallon threshold has emerged as a coarse psychological and political demarcating line. Above it, the narrative of economic competence weakens; below it, the administration can credibly claim that its policies are delivering tangible relief.

The day after they signed the Memorandum, the national average gasoline price fell to $3.99. Oil markets responded with further downward pressure. This was not a coincidence. The agreement signaled that the risk of sudden supply disruptions from the Persian Gulf had decreased, at least for the critical pre-election window. At the same time, the administration accelerated domestic permitting and leasing on federal lands. The combination created the political dividend Trump required: noticeable, pocketbook-level proof that his approach to the Middle East produces lower costs for American families.

If the oil-price game is relatively easy for attentive pundits to follow, the information arena is more opaque. Public disagreements between President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu have generated headlines suggesting a serious rift. Those who recall last year’s public friction between Trump — the most powerful man on the planet — and Elon Musk — the richest man on the planet — will identify the pattern. At the time, many interpreted the exchanges as genuine estrangement. In reality, they served a tactical purpose: allowing each side to speak to different audiences while preserving the underlying alliance. The same dynamic is now unmistakable between Washington and Jerusalem.

The current posture is a classic “good cop, bad cop” arrangement. Trump projects reasonableness and restraint to international audiences and to American voters who prefer stability during an election season. Netanyahu continues to cling to a hard line, conducting operations against Hezb’allah infrastructure in Lebanon and signaling that Israel will not be constrained by external timetables. Both leaders comprehend that calm on the international stage between present and November benefits their respective domestic positions. China must not create a crisis over Taiwan. Gulf Arab states, recently unified by Trump’s pressure on Iran, must avoid provocative moves. Iran itself must absorb the recent setbacks without launching major retaliation that could spike oil prices or monopolize American news cycles. Quiet serves everyone’s electoral calendar.

This arrangement has forced a hard realization in parts of the Israeli political establishment: A superpower’s domestic political needs will always take precedence over the preferences of even its closest allies. The observation is harsh, yet it reflects the structural reality of great-power politics. No American president can afford to let foreign crises dictate the domestic narrative in the months before a midterm election, especially one that will determine whether his agenda survives the remainder of his term.

The 250th anniversary of American independence on July 4, 2026 adds another layer of calculation. National milestones of this scale are carefully stage-managed. The administration does not want global headlines on that date postulating that the United States is “trampling the independence” of another country. By empowering Israel to handle immediate threats in Lebanon during the spring and summer, the United States creates space for its citizens to celebrate the anniversary without the overlay of fresh Middle East escalation. Israeli operations that degrade Hezb’allah’s capabilities reduce the chance of a major attack that could force American involvement or dominate the news. In that narrow but important sense, Israeli soldiers are helping ensure that American families can mark the semi-quincentennial in peace. Such contributions are rarely acknowledged publicly, but they are remembered in the corridors of power. Moreover, ordinary Americans will never forget that.

The Memorandum, stripped of diplomatic language, is therefore a timetable and a scorecard. It establishes a 20-week timeline and defines success in terms that voters can effortlessly grasp: reduced gas prices, the absence of foreign crises, and a political climate stable enough to render the administration’s core reforms difficult to reverse.

Whether one views the Memorandum as cynical or merely realistic depends on how much weight one assigns to the domestic political survival of elected leaders in democratic systems. In either case, the document makes explicit what experienced spectators have long understood: in the final analysis, the most consequential battles for both America and Israel are still being fought inside the American political system.

This tourist from Ecuador said he expected Canada to be a first world country.

But when he got to Toronto, he was SHOCKED at all the drugs and homelessness.

The average Canadian is 8 TIMES RICHER than the average Ecuadorian.

Yet apparently it's still nicer in Quito
