New Mexico and US Department of Justices file complaint against medical transportation company
Federal and state attorneys are trying to seize $2 million from a medical transport company accused of Medicaid fraud. On Tuesday, the U.S. and New Mexico Departments of Justice filed a civil forfeiture complaint against Safeway Medical Transportation, which they said billed the state’s Medicaid program for drivers taking themselves to appointments and for trips that never happened. They said the company also duplicated trips, inflated mileage, and falsified records.
It’s part of the US DOJ’s national health care fraud takedown, involving dozens of cases in several states.
