Gavin Newsom, would-be 2028 Dem nominee for President, was raised by a divorced mother who worked two jobs, vacationed with the Gettys (childhood friends of his father), became yet another Democrat "multi-millionaire life-long public servant" (how does this keep happening?) - which he touts as self-made through business acumen, but seems to be anything but - not only because of the involvement of Getty money and family "nonprofits" but also given California’s plummet into demise and debt under his tenure as Governor. Where was his keen "business acumen" then?

For the last two and a half decades, Gavin Newsom rose to the highest levels of California politics. At the same time, he became a multimillionaire businessman, with an upscale chain of wine stores, wineries, restaurants, nightclubs, hotels and retail shops stretching from the Bay Area and Napa Valley to Lake Tahoe and Palm Springs.
"He built some of those businesses with the Gettys, heirs to an oil fortune who have deep connections to the Democratic [governor's] family.

And Newsom’s opponent in November’s general election, Republican John Cox, has gone further, deriding him as the poster boy for privilege and the beneficiary of a famously moneyed oil family.

Another article, from 23 years ago, explains fishy business in Gavin's "divestment" by selling to the Gettys when he became mayor of San Francisco, and then buying thr same investments back from the Gettys''' with a loan from them to do so below market rate.

"The loan Newsom described "isn't a normal real estate loan," said John Karevoll, an analyst at DataQuick, a San Diego firm that tracks mortgage trends.

The Getty fortune has also helped Gavins sister be well-situated in life due to their father's long-standing position as trustee of some of the Getty funds. The senior Newsom referred to the the Gettys as "an extension" of his own family:

"[Gavin's] father, William A. Newsom III, is a retired state appeals court judge who was prep-school friends with Getty’s sons, Gordon and Paul. The elder Newsom later oversaw their fortunes as administrator of the Getty trusts and once said he considered the family “almost an extension of my own."
