…We have today's first opinion. It is one of the biggies. Watson v. RNC written by Justice Barrett and holds federal election-day statutes ballots can be counted after election day without violating federal law. The court rejects the preemption of a Mississippi law that allows mail-in ballots to be counted as long as they are postmarked by, and received within, five days of Election day. This was a surprise 5-4 decision.
