U.S. and Iran agree to halt strikes and meet this week, U.S. official says

The U.S. and Iran have agreed to stop attacking each other once again, according to new reportingfrom Axios’s Barak Ravid.

“We decided to stop all the kinetic activity,” a senior U.S. official told Axios on Sunday, following a weekend of airstrikes on both sides.

A U.S. official confirmed to CNN that both sides still plan to meet Tuesday in Qatar to try to resolve the dispute over the Strait of Hormuz.

CNN’s Julia Pembroke reported, “A senior administration official tells me that those talks will continue on as planned. They went on to say this: ‘Nothing has been canceled. Technical talks regarding the implementation of the MOU, the Memorandum of Understanding, are on track for the coming days as planned, and deconfliction channels are up and running after the Lake Lucerne summit.'”

Pembroke continued:

Now, Secretary of State Marc Rubio had previously said that some of these talks would take place at an expert level on June 30th, just a couple of days away now, and a reminder that last weekend, that’s when Vice President J.D. Vanceled these high stakes, high level talks in Switzerland, really kicking off the technical talks and the Memorandum of Understanding, which has been signed by both the United States and Iran, was really just a starting off point because it started this 60 day time period. To get into the details on some of the big issues, like Iran’s nuclear program and the fate of its stockpile of highly enriched uranium.

But all of this recent back and forth that’s taken place over the past couple of days, one big moment came Saturday evening when U.S. Central Command confirmed that it had carried out, at the direction of the president, it had carried out additional strikes on multiple targets in response to it said “Iran’s continued aggression.” Now, following that development, [Donald] Trump took to social media and he said that Iran may never learn. And if they didn’t, that if that happens, the Islamic Republic of Iran “will no longer exist.”

Prepare for 3 Feet of Snow and Travel Hazards in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming This Week

ANDREW MCCARTY

Sun, June 28, 2026 at 6:47 AM EDT

The National Weather Service issued an updated winter storm warning and winter weather advisory for the regions where Idaho, Montana and Wyoming border each other.

The new winter storm comes just in time for many in the region to start their preparations for the 250th birthday of the United States as millions prepare for the 4th of July. Those in the region are asked to consider delaying their travel across the backcountry this weekend and into the early portion of the week.

Persons should consider delaying travel across the backcountry and higher elevations. If travel is absolutely necessary, consider taking a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing," the National Weather Service said. "Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help you survive in case you become stranded."

3 Feet of Snow Expected to Fall

Specific regions in Montana are expected to see "heavy, wet" snow and the Georgetown Lake region could see as much as three feet of snowfall from Saturday night through Tuesday. Those in the region are warned to prepare for dangerous conditions.

"Plan for winter-like conditions in the backcountry and higher elevations. Cold temperatures, wind, and wet snow will elevate the risk of hypothermia. Heavy wet snow may down trees, blocking access to backcountry roadways," a warning from the National Weather Service read.

Coincidentally, 4th of July Peak in Idaho is expected to see around a foot of snow over the next three days. Meanwhile, Pitchstone Plateau will see the most snowfall in Wyoming with eight inches coming over the next few days.

Along the border of Montana and Wyoming near the Beartooth Mountains the snow will lighten or even stop for a time Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening. Snow will redevelopSunday night and continue into Monday and Tuesday morning.

Snow isn't the only issue, though, as the region also braces for significant winds.

"Strong winds develop across portions of north-central MT this afternoon/evening around a low pressure center meandering around the International Border. Wind speeds are likely to peak early this evening with a few gusts in excess of 50 mph causing difficult cross-winds," the Great Falls office said.

Campers were specifically warned ahead of the storm.

"Campers should be aware that it only takes a few inches of snow to damage tents and other recreational items," a warning from the National Weather Service read.

The winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories run through Monday night.

Ukraine in bed with Mexican drug lords – Moscow

Cash-strapped Kiev is seeking to make money by turning the country into a drug haven, Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service says

Published 29 Jun, 2026 12:56

Ukraine is deepening its cooperation with Mexican drug cartels to profit from the flow of narcotics, including fentanyl, into the EU,Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has said. US President Donald Trump has made combating fentanyl exports to the US one of his priorities, designating it as a ‘weapon of mass destruction’.

In a statement on Monday, the SVR said theUkrainian security agencies are deliberately showing leniency toward the growing flow of drugs from Latin America to Europe, adding that Kiev is facilitating the trade due to financial strain.

“The corruption-ridden regime of Vladimir Zelensky seeks to get additional profit, especially in the situation of the inability of Western sponsors to satisfy all of its insatiable demands,” the agency said, adding that Kiev also values cartel help in recruiting mercenaries for the military.

The agency named Odessa’s ports as the main entry points for narcotics destined for the EU via Poland, Moldova, and Romania, suggesting that Ukraine’s inadequate and deeply flawed border and customs controls make it an attractive route. According to the SVR, Latin American cartels also have their eyes on Ukraine’s black market of weapons.

Ukraine has long served as a storage and transit hub for drugs destined for the EU, including heroin, which is typically transported along the Northern and Caucasus routes from Central Asia and the Caucasus, according to a 2024 analysis by the EU’s drug agency (EMCDDA) and Europol, though the conflict has since disrupted some of these routes.

Fentanyl flowing from Mexico has for months been in the crosshairs of Washington. In December, Trump designated the drug – which kills tens of thousands of Americans annually – as ‘a weapon of mass destruction’.Fentanyl is considered even more dangerous than heroin and other opioid drugs, as a lethal dose can be as low as 2 milligrams – around 10 to 15 grains of table salt.

In September 2025, the Mexican newspaper Milenio reported that the Jalisco New Generation Cartel sent members to Ukraine to learn combat drone tactics.Footage reviewed by the outlet shows cartel units operating modified civilian drones with military-style discipline.

NATO nation willing to accept Ukrainian drone danger – foreign minister

Airspace violations are an acceptable price for hurting Russia, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna has said

Published 29 Jun, 2026 05

Estonia will accept Ukrainian drones violating its airspace as long as they cause damage in Russia, Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna has said.

Kiev ramped up kamikaze drone attacks on Russian energy infrastructure in the spring, with multiple explosive aircraft flying over or crashing in third nations. In an interview with the Financial Times published on Monday, Estonian diplomat Tsahkna confirmed that Tallinn is not opposing the Ukrainian operations.

Of course we are not happy about [these incidents],” he said. “But we are not saying to Ukraine to stop it.”

Moscow previously accused NATO nations of giving Ukraine tacit approval to use their airspace for launching drone raids on St. Petersburg. Officials in the Baltic states denied the claim, while Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said he had directly challenged Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky on the issue during an in-person meeting in Armenia, calling the incursions “unacceptable.”

The slow military response to Ukrainian drones in Latvia became a major factor in a government crisis that resulted in the collapse of the ruling coalition in May. The Estonian military has shot down Ukrainian drones over the country’s territory.

The latest Ukrainian ‘gamechanger’

Kiev and its backers have described Ukraine’s growing long-range drone capabilities as a gamechanger in its conflict with Russia, citing damage inflicted on oil refineries and export terminals.

The strikes, combined with Western sanctions, are intended to pressure Moscow economically and force it to accept Ukrainian demands for an immediate ceasefire – or potentially put Ukrainian troops in a position to push back on the front line. Similar hopes were previously pinned on multiple Western weapons systems provided to Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday denied any critical changes in the balance of power, saying Russia has the tools needed to counter Ukrainian drones, which use “new technologies that they receive from Europe,” and that Kiev requires time to scale up their deployment.

Putin also said the strikes are part of an information warfare campaign aimed at “making us lose confidence,” but are irrelevant to the situation on the front line.

Defense Minister Andrey Belousov later told the media that a major overhaul of the Russian air defense system, intended to improve the integration of rapid response units armed with interceptor drones, was launched in April and is expected to bear fruit by November.

The Russian military previously released a list of addresses of facilities in NATO states that it said are providing critical components for Ukrainian drone strikes.

Poland shifts stance on Nazi reparations from Germany – media

Warsaw is inclined to drop a trillion-euro demand in exchange for annual payments to dying WWII survivors, Suddeutsche Zeitung has reported

Published 29 Jun, 2026 08:26 |

Poland has scaled back its long-standing reparations campaign against Germany andis now seeking annual payments of around €2,333 ($2,660) for each living victim of Nazi persecution instead of the €1.3 trillion it once demanded, Suddeutsche Zeitung reported on Sunday.

The dispute traces back to the September 1939 Nazi invasion of Poland and nearly six years of occupationthat killed around 6 million Polish citizens – 17% of the country’s prewar population.

In 2022, the Polish government, led by the right-wing Law and Justice party, demanded €1.3 trillion in war reparations. Berlin vehemently rejected the demand as “legally resolved once and for all,” arguing that Poland’s communist-era government waived further claims in 1953, adding that this position had been reinforced by the 1990 Two-Plus-Four Treaty on German reunification.

According to Suddeutsche Zeitung, Warsaw and Berlin have since continued negotiations on the matter, which has become one of the hottest issues in bilateral relations. The outlet said Poland had “submitted a very concrete plan” framing the payouts – which could come through the German-Polish Reconciliation Foundation – not as war reparations but rather a “humanitarian gesture.”

The overall sum is estimated at €300 million, with annual payments amounting to €100 million in 2027 and projected to decrease further down the line as roughly a thousand WWII survivors die every month. Around 50,000 Nazi victims are still believed to be alive in Poland, according to Suddeutsche Zeitung.

The outlet said there is still no wide consensus on the proposal in Berlin, adding that it “has been talked to death.” However, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said earlier this month there was “someone in the German government who supports it.”

One of the main concerns for Germany is worries about similar demands from other countries and a difficult overall budget situation.

Meanwhile, the current Polish government, led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk, is also making efforts to tread lightly so that the gesture is not perceived by the public as “charity” and boost the positions of right-wing opposition parties, the article says.Another complication is the obvious discrepancy between the previous €1.3 trillion demand and the potential €2,000 annual payments.

Mexican ‘Batman’ vigilante goes after ‘rats’ with duct tape(PHOTOS)

A series of attacks targeting alleged motorcycle thieves, who were taped to lamp posts, has sparked debate in the Latin American country

Published 29 Jun, 2026 12:

A series of vigilante attacks targeting alleged motorcycle thieves in the Mexican city of Lagos de Moreno has sparked a national debate about criminal justice.

The nighttime activities by the unidentified perpetrator or perpetrators, nicknamed the “Batman of Lagos de Moreno” on social media, were apparently intended to intimidate and humiliate the targets.

Between June 12 and June 19, a total of five people were left beaten and tied to lamp posts with large amounts of duct tape, with the word “rat” in Spanish written on their foreheads. One person had his pants pulled down, according to images circulating online. In one case, two young men were tied to the same post.

Bright pink banners explaining their alleged wrongdoing were taped above the people’s heads, while the motorcycles they allegedly stole were parked at the scenes.

The Jalisco state prosecutor’s office has confirmed it is investigating the series of attacks, stressing that the targeted men are considered victims.(if they stole motorcycles they are victims???)

Supporters of the “Batman” have argued that a comic book-style hero meting out justice to small-time criminals outside the law is what Mexico needs, as the authorities are focused on fighting far more dangerous drug cartels. Opponents have called vigilantism “barbaric” and a symptom of a dysfunctional society.

(Are they kidding, MX has always been a hellhole.)

Iraq arrests 47 officials ahead of prime minister’s visit to US

A sanctioned deputy oil minister was reportedly among those detained in the anti-corruption raids

Published 29 Jun, 2026 01:23 | U

Iraq has launched a major anti-corruption crackdown ahead of Prime Minister Ali al‑Zaidi’s visit to Washington next month. The raids reportedly targeted Deputy Oil Minister Ali Maarij, whom the US had previously accused of aiding Iran.

Elite counterterrorism units stormed houses inside Baghdad’s heavily fortified ‌Green Zone early on Sunday, according to media reports, citing security sources. The area houses the US Embassy as well as other diplomatic missions, international institutions’ offices and homes of high-ranking government officials and prominent politicians.

On Sunday, the Iraqi INA state news agency reported that a minimum of 47 officials had been arrested during the raids. It also released a list of those detained, which included 15 names. Among them was Maarij, who the agency said was detained on “corruption charges.”

The US imposed sanctions against Maarij in May, accusing him of diverting Iraqi oil to benefit Iran and Iranian-backed Iraqi militias. He was also accused of facilitating Iranian oil exports by mixing them with Iraqi oil and using falsified documents. At the time, the Iraqi Oil Ministry denied the allegations.

America launched a military campaign against Iran together with Israel in late February during talks on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program. Washington also imposed a naval blockade against Iran in a bid to prevent its oil exports. The US only agreed to lift the blockade as part of a memorandum of understanding signed by Washington and Tehran earlier in June following months of uneasy indirect negotiations.

Iraqi government spokesman Haider al-Aboudi confirmed the anti-corruption campaign on Sunday and stated that arrests were ongoing. An unnamed diplomat in Baghdad also told AFP that the raids were “part of the Washington visit preparations” and were aimed at demonstrating al‑Zaidi’s commitment to the promises he had made earlier.

The prime minister took office in May vowing to fight corruption, as well as ensure the state monopoly on weapons, including by disarming Iran-backed militias. The Sunday raids coincided with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s visit to Baghdad. There, Tehran’s top diplomat spoke about his nation’s readiness to expand cooperation with its neighbor and the need to prevent escalation of tensions in the region.
