Blackstone Sells Stake In Three Virginia Data Centers Amid Grassroot Outrage

Up until now, when it comes to real estate, Blackstone was best known in recent years for dumping many of its trophy office properties - which in the aftermath of work from home never recovered their projected cash flow potential - at a huge discount. Now, it may be pulling a page from its old, pre-Lehman playbook by calling the top in yet another commercial real estate segment: data centers.

According to Bloomberg, Blackstone is selling its stakes in a trio of data centers across Northern Virginia for $3.5 billion, cashing out of part of a bet it made less than three years ago.

Digital Realty Trust will pay $1.2 billion of cash and offer $2.3 billion of its shares to Blackstone funds, the firms said in a statement Monday. In exchange, the data center company will acquire Blackstone’s 80% interest in two 96-megawatt data centers in Manassas, Virginia, and a 50% interest in a 96-megawatt center in nearby Sterling.

The assets involved in this week’s sale were part of a joint venture that Blackstone announced it would set up with Digital Realty in 2023 as it sought to get ahead in the AI arms race that has engulfed Wall Street in recent years. Blackstone and Digital Realty will continue to work together on their remaining data center investments located elsewhere in Northern Virginia as well as in Paris and Frankfurt.

“We have developed a strong partnership with Blackstone,” Greg Wright, Digital Realty CEO, said in the statement. “This transaction reflects the next phase of that relationship, allowing us to increase our ownership in a portfolio of fully leased, high-quality hyperscale assets.”

It does. The question is why did Blackstone decide to pull the cord now, just as fresh doubts are creeping whether the Mag 7s will continue funding the AI expansion with virtually unlimited capex.

As part of Wall Street’s broader push into data centers, investment has poured into Northern Virginia, which is considered the country’s largest data center market, and is better known as "Data Center Alley".

Supreme Court Strikes Down Trump's Birthright Citizenship Executive Order

The Supreme Court on Tuesday struck down President Donald Trump's executive order curbing birthright citizenship.

In a massive 194-page, 5-4 ruling, the Court affirmed a District Court ruling, holding that Executive Order 14160 - Trump's attempt to deny automatic citizenship to children born in the U.S. to parents who are undocumented or only temporarily present - violates the Fourteenth Amendment's Citizenship Clause. Chief Justice Roberts wrote the majority opinion, joined by Sotomayor, Kagan, Barrett, and Jackson.

Justice Kavanaugh provided the sixth vote against the order while explicitly rejecting the majority's constitutional theory, arguing the EO fails only because it conflicts with a 1940s immigration statute - leaving the door open for Congress, not the Constitution, to revisit the question.

Babies were ‘special targets’ of Israeli killings – UN probe panel chief

A clear pattern of attacks targeting children is evident, Justice S. Muralidhar

The attacks by Israel on Gaza show a targeted annihilation of children that should be punished, the head of a UN panel that probed the excesses told RT India.

The violence unleashed by Israeli forces was “unjustified and disproportionate… in considerable terms,” Justice S. Muralidhar, the chair of the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the occupied Palestinian territory, said in an exclusive interview.

“The excuse that Hamas could be using hospitals and schools as bases to carry out its attacks will not justify completely demolishing 97% of all of Gaza’s schools,” he said.

The Gaza war began after the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, in which around 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 taken hostage. Israel’s subsequent military operation devastated much of Gaza, killing over 73,000 Palestinians and injuring more than 173,000, according to the local health authorities.

Muralidhar presented the findings of the UN panel on Tuesday and discussed the Israeli violations against children.

Citing a pattern of targeted attacks on children, he said: “When you shoot a 10-day-old baby breastfeeding on his mother… through his head, you can by no means label such a baby as an enemy of the State of Israel and justify these kinds of attacks.”

Israeli quadcopters with thermal imaging cameras can clearly distinguish a child from an adult, he said.

That children were specifically targeted is clear from the number of “instances of babies with gunshot wounds to their head and neck to cause maximum damage.” He added that babies were aimed at with “tiny cube-shaped pellets” that “spread like a cluster of ammunition and destroy all the internal organs.”

“So it became very clear… that babies were special targets,” Muralidhar, who once served as chief justice at the high court in the eastern state of Odisha, said.

He noted that Israeli soldiers recounted on TV how they targeted children with quadcopters, claiming that “their commanders complimented them for doing that.”

Muralidhar said the pattern was clearly revealed “by a collection of all the forms of evidence,” including forensic and medical.

Silver Spring Company Unleashes 600,000 Infected Mosquitoes in DC.

A Silver Spring-based company is releasing diseased mosquitoes in the Washington, D.C. area, in hopes they will infect Asian Tiger Mosquitoes and reduce their numbers.

Bee Safe Mosquito Control, a Maryland-based company, has begun releasing male mosquitoes infected with the Wolbachia bacteria in the D.C. area, hoping they will spread the disease to aggressive Asian Tiger Mosquitoes and reduce their populations. These “ZAP males” make female mosquitoes infertile after mating, preventing them from producing offspring. Skeptics of insect programs warn that the potential risks to human health and to species that feed on mosquitoes are unclear.

The Asian Tiger Mosquito is a common pest in the region and is capable of transmitting diseases such as Dengue Fever, Zika, and Yellow Fever. The ZAP males are sourced from MosquitoMate, a Kentucky-based company with EPA approval for this biopesticide technology, which has already shown success internationally, reducing Dengue cases by over 98 percent in parts of South America. Bee Safe began deploying the mosquitoes in June and plans to release 600,000 by the end of the season.

“We’re definitely the first in the DMV to do this… It’s super cool that we’re at the forefront of it,” said Todd Montgomery, owner of Bee Safe Mosquito Control.

The release of the diseased mosquitoes is intended to significantly reduce the spread of mosquito-borne illnesses in the region, offering a safer alternative to chemical pesticides. However, campaigners have raised concerns that the insects could expose people to novel allergens, or inadvertently create dangerous hybrid mosquitoes that are not rendered infertile and enter the wild gene pool.

Similar mosquito control efforts have been implemented in California and Florida by Alphabet’s Debug program, with plans to release millions of Wolbachia-infected mosquitoes in those states.

Historic Former Convent Burned Down Near St. Patrick’s Burial Site.

A historic former convent near St. Patrick’s burial site in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland, was intentionally set ablaze, according to Northern Ireland’s fire service.

The former Convent of Mercy in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland, was engulfed in flames on Sunday, with the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service confirming the fire was started “deliberately.” The destroyed convent is just a short distance from the grave of St. Patrick, the Patron Saint of Ireland, at Down Cathedral.

The fire began on Sunday evening and required the efforts of around 70 firefighters, who battled the blaze until Monday morning. The convent, although derelict, was a well-known landmark in the town.

💬 KEY QUOTE: “It’s really sad to see the former convent in Downpatrick on fire,” said South Down MLA (Member of the Legislative Assembly) Colin McGrath, highlighting the building’s significance to the local community. “Although it’s been lying derelict for some time, it’s still one of those buildings that people in the town know well, and it’s difficult to watch it being lost like this,” he explained. “Many local people will have memories of the convent and the role it played over the years. Even in recent times it has remained a familiar part of the Downpatrick skyline, so seeing it go up in flames is upsetting.”

🎯 IMPACT: The destruction of the convent is a significant loss to the Downpatrick community, and comes amid a period of heightened tensions in Northern Ireland. While no suspect or suspected motive has been publicly identified as of the time of publication, migrants have been involved in a spate of arson attacks on Christian religious buildings in Europe in recent years. Northern Ireland recently saw a Sudanese migrant attempt to behead a local man in the provincial capital, Belfast, resulting in anti-migrant riots.

Big Corporations Get Rich From Their Secret Seed Patents — Taxpayers and Farmers Pay the Price

For most of human agricultural history, farmers freely saved, exchanged and planted seeds, creating a diversity of crops suited to the places and people who grew them. In the 20th century, governments began granting companies patents on living organisms, starting with a genetically engineered bacterium that broke down crude oil. Now, a handful of corporations control the seed market, turning taxpayer subsidies intended for farmers into corporate

The U.S. is one of only a handful of countries that allows companies to hold patents on plant varieties.

As a result, a small number of corporations can — and do — suppress competition in the seed industry, stifle innovation and turn taxpayer subsidies intended for farmers into corporate profits.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has found that two companies control more than 70% of U.S. corn and soybean seed sales, and the top four cottonseed companies control nearly 94% of that market.

In a May court filing in a legal dispute between two U.S. seed companies, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) said patents on seeds are obstructing competition and research in the agriculture industry.

As researchers who work on plant breeding and seed policy, we have seen how that plays out.

When huge companies assert their patents, smaller businesses and public plant breeders, who often lack the legal resources to fight back, are frequently dissuaded from conducting research and development that might actually not be illegal at all.

And a lack of competition allows dominant companies — not always based in the U.S. — to collect large sums of taxpayer money that Congress allocated in hopes it would help farmers, not shareholders’ and executives’ bottom lines.

A shift in ownership

For most of human agricultural history, farmers freely saved, exchanged and planted seeds season after season, creating a diversity of crops suited to the places and people who grew them.

While some communities restricted the exchange of seeds for cultural or ceremonial reasons, seeds were broadly understood to be a shared resource.

Even as recently as the 1970s, most plant breeding was carried out by public researchers at government stations and universities, while private companies focused on producing and selling those varieties at scale.

That diverse and decentralized system also served as an invisible insurance policy against disease and disaster: If one variety failed, there were plenty of others distinct enough to fill its place.

Beginning in the 20th century, though, governments began to grant companies patents on living organisms, beginning with a genetically engineered bacterium that broke down crude oil.

Suddenly, chemical and pharmaceutical companies saw opportunities to earn money by engineering specific traits, such as herbicide tolerance, into key crop plants, including corn, soybeans, cotton and canola, and patenting those varieties.

Then they used those patent rights to prohibit other plant breeders, even university researchers, from conducting research and breeding with their seeds and to forbid farmers from saving their own seeds from one season to the next.

Those steps eliminated seed companies’ two most obvious sources of competition: other developers building on their work and farmers saving seed.

The seed companies then had enough market power to set prices so high that they took nearly all of farmers’ potential profits, while leaving them just enough of a margin to remain customers.

According to a report from the USDA’s Economic Research Service, the price for genetically engineered seeds has more than quintupled since 1990, rising by 463%.

But over that same period of time, the price farmers have received for their crops has increased only by 56%.

The reporter froze. "I'm not — I just want to give you a chance to give your side," Ballsey stammered.

Massie didn't let up. "Are you a real news organization or not?"

Ballsey eventually caved — "Of course I don't" — before retreating with a limp "Thank you for your time." Massie followed him out. "That's not what I heard," he said.

RULES COMMITTEE KILLS MASSIE-KHANNA AMENDMENT WITHOUT DEBATE OR VOTE

Bipartisan Effort to Strip Section 219 from the NDAA Killed Without Debate — MTG Says "MAGA Was Just a Dream"

The House Rules Committee has blocked a bipartisan amendment by Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) that would have stripped Section 219 — formerly Section 224 — from the National Defense Authorization Act.

The provision creates a dedicated executive agent inside the Department of Defense whose sole mission is advancing U.S.-Israeli military technology integration, from co-producing weapons to "data fusion."

The amendment never got a floor vote. The Rules Committee killed it without debate.

According to Ben Freeman at Responsible Statecraft, Netanyahu himself has described this integration as "my plan." Former National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent warned that "back doors and spyware can be installed that will most certainly be used by the Israelis to influence U.S. policy." Former CIA official Paul Pillar went further, writing that "in intelligence, Israel is more of an adversary than an ally."

Freeman's assessment of the stakes is stark:

"There may be no turning back if this provision becomes law, so the next few months may very well decide the U.S.-Israel relationship for decades to come."

Former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene responded on X:

The American people flooded their representatives with calls. Letters to the editor opposing Section 219 appeared in papers across the country. None of it mattered. The Speaker's committee buried it anyway.

Ministers, coalition MKs push pardon for PM after judges urge dropping of key charge

Levin, Eliyahu, Katz and others again call for clemency or for dismissal of all charges, as judges repeat recommendation that prosecutors withdraw Netanyahu’s bribery count

Several cabinet members and coalition lawmakers called again for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s corruption trial to end after judges recommended Monday that a bribery charge against the premier be dropped.

The judges’ suggestion to prosecutors came after Netanyahu concluded his lengthy testimony in the three related cases for which he is on trial, and repeats a recommendation the panel made three years ago. If prosecutors do ditch the bribery charge, Netanyahu will still face fraud and breach of trust charges in three cases, which concern allegations that he received illicit gifts and traded favors for positive press coverage.

But the judges’ statement injected new energy into calls by Netanyahu’s allies to end the trial altogether. Netanyahu, Israel’s first sitting premier to be tried, denies all wrongdoing in the cases.

His supporters have long echoed his contention that the charges amount to a political witch hunt that has dragged on for too long. In a video statement on Monday, Justice Minister Yariv Levin claimed that the bribery charge was the “central” allegation that was “trumped up” against Netanyahu.

“The least that can be done now is to prevent this miscarriage of law and justice to continue,” Levin said. “To prevent Prime Minister Netanyahu from being dragged into more years of legal proceedings on marginal and unprecedented charges.”

He said the judges’ recommendation gave prosecutors a “last chance to salvage some part of the system’s honor,” and called for the premier to be pardoned or for the cases to be thrown out.

How to buy the supreme court? Book deals!

Justice Sotomayor Discloses $4,333 in Concert Tickets from Bad Bunny’s Record Label in Latest Supreme Court Financial Report

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor disclosed receiving $4,333 worth of concert tickets from Rimas Entertainment, the Puerto Rican record label that represents superstar Bad Bunny, as part of the latest round of Supreme Court financial disclosure reports.

The tickets were for Sotomayor and an unspecified number of guests during a private trip she took to Puerto Rico in August.

Sotomayor, the first justice of Puerto Rican descent, noted in her filing that the gift came from the label while she was traveling privately, though she did not specify which concert she attended.

At the time, Bad Bunny was in the middle of a major residency that included more than 30 sold-out shows in San Juan.

These 2025 financial disclosures, which cover outside income, gifts, and other interests for eight of the nine justices, are required annually under federal ethics rules.

Justice Samuel Alito was granted a 90-day extension and has not yet filed.

While Sotomayor’s concert tickets stand out as the most eye-catching gift in the current reports, the filings also show substantial outside earnings for several other justices, primarily from book deals and teaching positions.

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson reported a $1.18 million book advance from Penguin Random House for her memoir, following nearly $2.07 million in advances from the same publisher the previous year.

Justice Amy Coney Barrett disclosed more than $849,000 in royalties from her 2025 book.

Justice Neil Gorsuch reported over $300,000 in book royalties, and smaller teaching stipends appeared for Chief Justice John Roberts, Justice Brett Kavanaugh, and Justice Clarence Thomas.

Sotomayor also listed nearly $88,100 in royalties from Penguin Random House tied to her children’s books, along with additional promotional spending by the publisher on one of her titles.

European Commission launches Project NERON to focus on antisemitism, fostering Jewish life

The Network for European Research on Jewish Life and Antisemitism (NERON) project is aimed at supporting research on antisemitism and contemporary Jewish life.

The European Commission has signed the official grant agreement for the project NERON (Network for European Research on Jewish Life and Antisemitism), a new Horizon Europe project that will build a European research hub to address contemporary antisemitism and foster Jewish life.

The NERON project is a flagship initiative of the EU Strategy on Combating Antisemitism and Fostering Jewish Life (2021–2030). The Strategy commits the European Commission to supporting research on antisemitism and contemporary Jewish life and creating a European research hub in this field.

One of the key pillars of NERON involves mapping and analyzing the research landscape by upgrading the European Jewish Research Archive.

Another involves building a pan-European network through workshops, seminars, and pilot programs, such as a Summer Academy and internships, to bring together researchers, policymakers, and Jewish communities for co-creation and shared learning.

NERON will also be focused on promoting dissemination and public engagement by launching a dedicated website, newsletter, and visual identity.

Research on all aspects of antisemitism and Jewish life in Europe will complement and further enrich Holocaust research, while benefiting from stronger coordination and improved integration across disciplines, institutions, and countries.

Modern scientific foundation essential to combat antisemitism

Ekaterina Zaharieva, European Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation, said: “To effectively combat antisemitism, we need a modern, shared scientific foundation."

"Right now, European research in this field is fragmented. By investing €3.4 million through Horizon Europe, we are bridging these gaps and equipping researchers with advanced data tools and digital methodologies to uncover real-world truths.”

“The launch of NERON marks another important milestone in delivering the EU Strategy on Combating Antisemitism and Fostering Jewish Life," said Magnus Brunner, European Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration.

"To combat antisemitism effectively, we must understand how it evolves and manifests itself. By investing in excellent research and fostering closer cooperation between academics, policymakers and Jewish communities, we are strengthening our ability to identify emerging trends, respond to new forms of antisemitism, and develop policies that make a real difference—both at the European and national levels. We are committed to ensuring that Jewish life can flourish across Europe.”

Euro-Med Monitor Documents Children and Infants With Bound Hands in Gaza Mass Graves as UN Demands Investigation

International pressure mounts for independent investigations into mass graves found at Gaza hospitals.

Footage of a French aid worker describing a mass grave holding 300 bodies in Gaza, including small children allegedly killed with their hands tied, has gone viral, reigniting international calls for accountability amid documented evidence of similar conditions at multiple Gaza hospital sites.

Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, a Geneva-based human rights organisation, has been systematically documenting mass graves across Gaza since October 2023, recording more than 130 sites in the territory's northern, central and southern governorates. The most significant discoveries came in April 2024 at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, where Palestinian Civil Defence teams unearthed hundreds of bodies, some of them children, bearing marks consistent with execution. The United Nations human rights chief called the finds 'horrifying' and demanded that international investigators be granted unimpeded access to the sites.

What Civil Defence Recovered

Palestinian families began returning to the Nasser Hospital compound in Khan Younis on 20 April 2024, following the withdrawal of Israeli forces after a months-long military operation. What Civil Defence teams found stunned international observers. Bodies had been buried deep in the ground, covered with waste, and the grave sites sat within hospital grounds that had been converted into a military zone.

By the end of a seven-day search operation, Gaza's Civil Defence had recovered more than 390 bodies from three mass grave sites at the compound. Dr. Muhammad Al-Mughair, head of evidence at Civil Defence, told NBC News that 78 children were among the dead. Of the 165 bodies identified at that stage, approximately 10 were found with their hands bound.

Likud MK Galit Distel-Atbaryan says Israel’s Prison Service and Ministry of National Security are pleading for legislation to permanently bar the Red Cross from visiting Palestinian detainees, arguing such inspections could fuel a mountain of criticism against Israel:

“Now, after the High Court of Justice’s ruling, which is new and was issued at the beginning of June, there is not just pressure but real panic within the Israel Prison Service.

They believe that if the Red Cross is allowed to enter and visit security prisoners, then starting tomorrow morning there will be a propaganda attack and blood libels against our soldiers, our prison guards, and the State of Israel as a whole. From the Prison Service’s perspective, it’s only a matter of time. It’s going to happen.

That’s why the Israel Prison Service and the Ministry of National Security approached me and said: ‘Take that bill and change it so that the Red Cross will under no circumstances, under any circumstances, be allowed to visit security prisoners.’

We don’t need that. This is a moment when opposition and coalition don’t matter. This is not a boutique law. It’s not a gimmick law. It’s a law that the security authorities came to me and said, ‘We need it now. The State of Israel needs it now.’”

Cops are traitors

Four Former Oakdale-Area Law Enforcement Leaders and One Business Owner Plead Guilty to Falsifying Police Reports and Bribery to Perpetrate Decade-Long Visa Fraud Conspiracy

Part of Homeland Security Task Force & Operation Take Back America

ALEXANDRIA – On June 30, 2026, Glynn Dixon, 62, of Forest Hill, pled guilty in federal court for his role in a decade-long scheme involving bribery and a conspiracy to commit visa fraud and mail fraud after his four co-conspirators, Chandrakant Patel, 40, of Oakdale, Chad Doyle, 55, of Oakdale, Michael Slaney, 64, of Oakdale, and Tebo Onishea, 38, of Glenmora, each pled guilty to the same in recent weeks. The defendants were originally indicted on July 2, 2025. Dixon, Doyle, Onishea, and Slaney each face up to 5 years in prison. Patel faces up to 20 years in federal prison.

At the time of the offenses, four of the defendants were serving in high-profile law enforcement positions: Doyle as Oakdale Chief of Police; Slaney as Oakdale Marshal for Ward 5; Dixon as Forest Hill Chief of Police; and Onishea as Glenmora Chief of Police. Patel was a business owner.

“These defendants’ disgraceful fraud endangered our community and undermined the public trust in the immigration system solely to line their own pockets,” said United States Attorney Zachary A. Keller. “These guilty pleas confirm the depth of corruption uncovered here and the strength of the evidence developed during an incredible investigation by our law enforcement partners working together, and our Office looks forward to advocating for prison time for each defendant that reflects the seriousness of the crimes they committed.”

“HSI is committed to protecting the integrity of our immigration system and lawful immigration benefits,” said Matt Wright, Acting Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations, New Orleans. “When anyone, including public officials, exploits immigration relief programs or commits fraud against the government, HSI and our law enforcement partners will investigate, dismantle these schemes, and work to bring those responsible to justice.”

“These guilty pleas demonstrate accountability for officials who breach public trust and misuse federal systems," said Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigations Special Agent in Charge Demetrius Hardeman, of the IRS-CI Atlanta field office.

“The FBI will continue to work with our federal partners and the U.S. Attorney's Office to ensure people who engage in this type of corrupt criminal activity are brought to justice,” said Special Agent in Charge Jonathan Tapp of the FBI’s New Orleans Field Division.
